We've had regular Thrush and Blackbird visits to our garden during the summer and they've kept the snail population in check better than any chemical pesticide. We put out a large flat stone as an anvil and it seemed to attract these birds. Early last year we also had a visit from a Fieldfare which is a slightly larger relative of the Thrush. I videoed it and put it on my channel.
He is brilliant! Yikes on red status! Such a vicious cycle to be piling on pesticides, when the birds could do the job just as well, as they did in the past.
Thanks for this, Phil. Without your vids, I would never have the chance to know many of these birds from your corner of the world. :-)
I then noticed that the garden pond frogs were so thin. We had taken all forms of food and I was so mad at myself, thus our garden is left to nature. God Bless you and your beloved ones x my last call you will have to stop keeping me up so late Lol x♥x
Oh Phil, I have seen the wonderful bird in our garden but not for a long while now I know why (Red is bad for this beauty) the fascination of watching as you say of seeing it open a snail. I have a confession to make many years ago I used snail pellets as they were devastating the garden,
Peanut butter, wow, go green go cheap x crushed nuts and mixed fruit x♥x and cereals. Brown bread cut into very small cubes and lighty fried in sunflower oil. Keep all used oil or fat products and hey presto xN ow thats going wild x♥x Love and respect x ☺Cyber Hugs
It's called a 'zanglijster' in Holland... Beautiful Phil ! And what a great songs eh ? I really didn't know it was on the 'red alert list'... Pfffffff... To bad for such a fantastic bird...
This is brilliant Phil. Fantastic capture of the Song Thrush singing...so sad that their numbers are in such a steep decline.

Nice video and sound. Takes me right back to a warm summer's evening.
There's a Thrush which sings in all weather every evening just round from our house.

Sorry to hear that this beautiful little bird is on the endangered list...
Why does the world not see that we need them & all our creatures for balance?
Thank you Phil for helping to spread the beauty AND the word.

Oh, I just love their song!
Do you think that there is a possibilty that they might come off of the "red status" list? Poor little things. hugs, Chris

Thanks Phil. :o)
I love bird watching and keeping feeders. Here is my homemade suet recipe for very, very happy birds.
1/2 cup of peanut butter
1/2 cup of shelless sunflower seeds
add flour until mixture is workable by hand into a patty and solid enough to stand in suet cage.
The birds go wild for it. :o)
