  • It's Halloween time again so I would love to make this! Question though, what kind of pumpkin is that Runny? We have Orange pumpkins here, so I am wondering if that would work ok. (This looks like some type of winter squash?)

  • @AutomHatter It's a kabocha squash. You can use any kind of squash with a hard shell -- they all act the same when cooked and have similar flavors. I would recommend using acorn squash as a substitute.

  • @hanblum Yeah I tried looking for Kabocha squash at my local market because I didn't feel like driving all the way out to the asian market >.< But I'm glad you said acorn squash instead because I was contemplating over it when i saw it. Will it have similar or same taste as kabocha?

  • pumpkin falls over brench wtf?

  • runny what´s up men? I can see a sadly sorrow on your face, like if you were ahm, not to happy. Is everything ok???

  • Lol you're just so cute. XD

  • They kinda look like pancakes, Mmmm!

  • what kind of pumpkin did you use?

i only know of pumpkins with orange skin. D:

  • @310BPM That is what I am wondering. I really want to make this for Halloween but not sure if our orange pumpkins will work or if we need to get this other squash.

  • i love pumpkin! for thanksgiving we salt and roast the seeds and we always make pumpkin pie and pumkin bread. i've also made pumpking cheesecake and pumpkin cookies. a savory pureed pumking soup once, but it wasn't so good. we use pumkins that are very bright orange and fleshy. my husband uses pumpkin like the one you used for his Trinidad and Tobago dishes, we find it here sometimes, but not often. i wouldn't keep the peel, but your pumkin pancakes look good! try cinnamon next time. yum!

  • why didnt u say anything in the first minute?????

  • i do the same but i peel the skin!

  • That looks so yummy :D

  • I think Americans are really big on pumpkin pie on thanksgiving day

  • looks delicious!

  • I cant wait to make this, they look so good ^^

  • The only way I've seen pumpkin used as food in America is in pumpkin pie, where we use it more like sweet potatoes...I'd love to try your recipe though! Looks more like pancakes. :)

  • that looks like pumpkin pancakes XD

  • Hey Taro when you say you used starch... is it baking powder, baking soda or something else? I have this stuff home called "magic powder baking soda" and I tried to make your recipe but it didn't work. What's the japanese name of the starch you used?

  • It's ''片栗粉'' (Katakuri-ko). We use it for Chicken fried ''kara-age'' as well. Hope you find it! If you can't, let me know :)

  • Thanks alot!

I asked a friend who's a baker and he said I used the wrong stuff. I should've used Corn Starch but I used Magic baking powder which is made of starch + baking soda. Oops..haha. ^^ I'll try again tomorrow!

  • Ah yes corn starch would be great! Hope it turns out great :) Thanks for trying!

  • literally translated is chestnut powder but is defenetly not starch beacause i've puted lots of it and i never get something hard until i cooked it

  • @runnyrunny999

    Hi

can i replace it with any other material, i could not find Katakuri-ko...

  • @runnyrunny999 hey! nice recipes! but i wanna ask something though, can i microwave the pumpkin instead of boiling, and btw if i were to boil, should i peel the pumpkin?

  • Comment removed

  • @getoutofmyband starch = corn starch or potato starch. baking powder or baking soda are leavening agents and they are stabilizers or acid for making baked goods. baking powder and soda are not substitute for starches they are TOTALLY different from starches. starches thickens products and does not aid leavening in products and vice versa for baking powder/soda.

  • @getoutofmyband It would be potato starch or just regular corn starch :)

  • awesome ! ! Never seen that before !

    おしそう !

  • Thank you my friend :)

  • And that's it, only pumpkin. And I thought Japanese people would make complicated dishes 8D

  • I don't!! lol

  • That was like really small pumpkin. In our cantry a 10kg pumkin is considered small and avarage is about 15-20kg. We like to eat pumpkin but mainly as a sweet dish.

  • Someone told me that it's squash I used in this video. I thought it's called pumpkin. But still pumpkin so...:p

  • Squash is a type of pumpkin which people -preferably fat ones- sat on. :)

  • Just letting you know :D I'm not from the US and I'm still watching you. People watch you worldwide :D
