That's been done once before (for those who do not remember, Jimmy Carter boycotted the olympics in 1980 in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan) and it accomplished nothing, except to piss off a lot of American athletes who trained so long for nothing.

The fault is on the Olympic Committee. They should have known this would happen, it's not like all of this hatred against China has been a secret or mysteriously appeared overnight. It was a foolish decision that may cause some athletes to not be able to compete, BUT this is the biggest opportunity that the Free Tibet movement has ever had to gain any real attention for their cause.
