  • i like the idea of this, the stop watch progress bar does give the impression of a slow boot though, but i like the idea of notify osd guiding you through it.

  • loving it!

  • Couldn't you already do this with Plymouth?

  • @wahtization No, and there's loads of reasons why.

The notifications library are part of GNOME/KDE/etc.

Loading a default desktop environment kind of nullifys the need to switch to another and allows so many more bugs to surface.

  • What a waste of resources, which would I want increased time for some stupid animation!

  • No need for a boot screen with 10.04+

  • @MrUbuntoogle boot screens are very important, if a system were to even start instanteously i would still put in a boot screen just for the fact that they are your introduction to the operating system, if it wasnt there would people even know they were using ubuntu?

  • Delicious! :D

  • s that the boot screen and how do u do that1!!!!

  • Its a mock-up

  • Cooooool! It's so beautyful!

  • wow.

    excellent

  • Which particular free software was used for this incredible masterpiece? Blender 3D?

  • Adobe after effects i think

  • I didn't know Adobe Flash and After Effects are free software... Did u read the details or did u get someone to write this comment for you..since u seemed to be illiterate

  • Johnwoodshack Its blatantly obvious your self importance is what drives your septic ego & though you cut n paste what you think is cool from other peoples posts illiteracy is very prevelant as its also blatantly obvious you cant actually read your statement in comparison with mine makes absolutely no sence as a recap I sarcasticaly expressed what I considered to be more forgery in relation to propagander for a product I have business associates whose job is to create spin as funky boot ups etc.

  • It' s all about user experience.

Every device 'gets' you there. You just wanna make the ride a little different and more pleasant. Don't pipe a guy cause he a creative concept and you want to still work in VGA boots.

  • DennisFranz, thats not the case at all, and you know it. johnwoodshack's reply beggard belief in contextual associations with what has been stated and when people key board commando they will chew my Baud, I originally addressed the video and nothing more, I felt whilst bored @ death oclock in the morning; the evangelism of camp ubuntu by paid liars selling "snake oil" deserved my vetriol.

  • @DARTHMOBIUS

    aaaaa, what?

  • this HAS to happen for Lucid Lynx!!

designers are in great need for 10.04. okay so Ubuntu is stable!!

get some designers on the case now!!

    if you agree say so!!

and i will email the current programmers on launchpad with this page after 100 agreements.

    fyi that boot is awesome

  • please do! count my agreement!!!

  • Wow.

    It looks great o:

  • cool...

  • is it possible to get it?

  • looks great!

  • wonderful!

  • which software did you use to make all of this

  • love it :D

  • Love that. Show them it, I bet they would like it. I love the bit where the logo sparkles a bit at the end.

  • yo lo quieroª!!!!! lo puedo poner en ubuntu 9.04?

  • post this on ubuntu brainstorm to see how it's accepted by users

    it looks interesting

  • nicely done :)

  • wow!

  • I wish they would take peoples mockups seriously, ubuntu and other distros desperately need some real designers, which by the amount of great mockups I see, there are plenty willing to help, they just need to accept it.

  • I think another problem is it's hard to figure out how to join the team, and usually the designers get the ideas too late since they aren't following the early development.

Hopefully this will change, Launchpad might help, but I don't know.

I hope by the next release we get a seriously pro-designed boot.

I like the way this mockup uses notifications even in boot, very consistent.

  • awesome

  • wow that was so cool

  • They did not used that... But I really want this version of boot...

  • nice really nice

  • Very nice indeed! Hope we can manually add this to karmic!

  • This is pretty good, someone needs to follow through with this.

  • oh god, yes...

  • i was impress, now someone plz follow thru with this plz =)

  • Now if Ubuntu would make it like this, and then ditch brown, maybe Linux would finally have a chance against Windows. Nice boot screen!

  • That is an excellent boot screen, I'd love to see that on Karmic.

  • جامدة جدا

  • That is beautiful!

  • nice. VERY VERY nice.

  • The actual boot screen looks nothing like this. It's unlikely this will be implemented, if it's even possible to do so (I doubt it).

  • Wow, excellent mock up. Even if the artistic traits aren't used (and with slow Ubuntu's artwork adoption history it likely wouldn't be), use of Ubuntu's notify-osd would be a great idea so long as it doesn't significantly increase boot times.

  • woaaahhh... this is amazing

    "MUSTON" the final :D

  • Shuttleworth if you're taking notice, please run with this!

  • wouah ! AMAZING !! Please, on the FINAL !!

  • This must be on final!!!

  • wnat this on the final

  • Fantastic I want that!!!

  • Genial and revolutionary

  • I like the idea, but maybe it's too advanced with the photo and that.

  • Awesome. I must say, like most of the others, I would install this right away. Simple, clean, nice and easy. Can you use this with 9.04 or has anything been released yet? Who ever did this: thank you!

  • u can download 9.10 early. its actually an upgrade. it takes about an hour to do but u can use the computer while your doing it. and of course its linux so the install wont slow your computer down.

  • I would for sure install this theme. I think it's just beautiful. Unfortunately I would only get to see it like once every 2-3 weeks (my power goes out from time to time).

  • AMAZING

  • sexy

  • firggin awsome !

    Go ubuntu !

  • Beautiful! Keep up the good work!

  • Nice work, but we need something else that doesn't sound windowsy.

  • This is beautiful, the notification sounds are great, and even if this doesnt feature in karmic I will definitely implement this on my machine

  • You know what this needs to do is load the user's desktop background. Then, with auto-login enabled, it would create an instant-on effect so the desktop would load instantly, and the menu bar & icons would appear when they were ready.

  • Problem is you would need to know what user background to load.

  • Awesome! The only thing i dont like is the tree.

An eucalyptus tree would fit in karmic koala :)

  • sorry, too complex 4 me

  • I like the fact that the notifications are the same as on the desktop. Nice and consistent.

  • I really want to see this one on Karmic, I LOVE IT! (As much as i love my beautiful laptop.... )

  • Awesome!

  • +1 voucher!

  • OK so how can I install the thing?

  • Just can't beat a decent boot animation. Even if your PC boots so fast it's pointless. Some things are worth having just because they are genuinely cool.

  • You missed the point completely haven't you? This is not some bagging about how someones machine boots fast. Ubuntu announced that karmic koala will have new boot screen. This is just a mockup and rather good one I might add... So this is just an idea... Read additional info more often!

  • This is absolutely brilliant! Many regard the brown theme of Ubuntu to be quite ugly and a real turn off to new users - if there are plans for an overhaul on the cosmetic front like Karmic Koala was planned to have - this should absolutely be the way to go. It stays true to what makes Ubuntu what it is but finally giving it a level of polish its desperately needed, if the developers could run with this theme, this could be amazing!

I really hope this gets into 9.10 ! Well done! :)

  • This is awesome! I really enjoy the music and "infos" on the right!

But why the "ting" sound is taken from Win (or maybe i'm wrong)?

  • looks ands sound great, i hope this or modified version of this makes into 9.10

  • The future is here!

  • Impressive! The background music and the idea of having a bit of nature (the branch) are very nice touches!

  • Wow! Very great boot sequence!

  • Fantastic!

  • this is awesome

pls pls pls let it be in 9.10

  • fantastic.

  • wowzers! i focking want that thang on my ubuntu

  • Now that is a thing of beauty.

  • That'd be brilliant.

  • Hmmm, Canonical should buy the rights to Massive Attack's song Teardrop, and make a clone of Dr.House intro. That would get some attention for sure

  • Looks wonderful, really good. Is the boot time affected at all?

  • How do you know it's going to require a lot of shit loaded? I can easily imagine this being done with one background image, one panel image, and one small icon animated by an assembly program.

  • Wow this is simply an elegant and sleek boot up. I like!

  • This is gorgeous. I'd install it now if it were available.

  • Looks good, but would it slow down boot time compared to the simple bar? ( by more than say 5 seconds? )

  • A bit too "complicated":

take out that tree branch thing.

remove the logos in the indicator popups (ones on the right)

  • Are you related to Nicky Sobotka?

  • This looks great, but I still prefer my scrolling wall of white text on a black screen over such aesthetic pleasures.

  • I like it, but the watch is bad, the wallpaper inappropriate and the notifications suck. Also the ambient music is out of tune.

Just kidding, I like it :-)

  • "Now performing a check of your storage disks" should obviously be "Now performing a check of your hard disks" or something, and I'm not sure how early you'll have GNOME and D-Bus/libnotify available, but it looks really good.

  • It's a very elegant boot sreen. Great work. I hope it gets approved.

  • That's actually really cool where did you get the ambient music playing in the background. I'm not sure whether its intentional but it makes more sense to have ambient music in the boot process like this than a drum roll after. I wonder whether plymouth supports that.

  • I'll prefer it to keep it simple, because the watch and the notifications makes me feel more like if I already entered into my Ubuntu account and Ubuntu is still booting up :S

  • keep the notifications, that's what keeps me dropping the splash so i can see what's going on.

I love it all except the stopwatch though. It's a great idea, just not the right graphic.

  • I like it, keep everything.

  • It's cool, but if I were you, I'll remove the notifications and the watch.

  • Pretty cool, but I don't quite like that watch to be honest.
