  • Remember buying this on It's release, the Album was Blue Vinyl....:)

  • "I see it all so clear; the tenderness, the silent tears"

    How beautifully sad is that?

  • This song is so beautiful, I sing too it. :) Oh ELO and Jeff Lynne ... So amazing :')

  • I love this song...

  • One of the best albums i ever bought was Out of the Blue, absolutely fantastic, and i am more for listening to Classical music.

  • @sweetbrowneyedlady couldn't have said it better myself

  • Jeff is amazing!!!

  • Jeff is amazing!!!

  • ELO - Groove on . Reminds me of great times in the lte 70's and early 80's . Thanks CWO Kev Taylor .

  • my dad....lover of ELO....died of prostate cancer in july 2007.....was born in 02 04 1948.. I was born in 1979 in the year of discovery album which dad played proudly at BBQ'S & PARTIES ...I came to the Knowledge of ELO in 1995 & can remember xanadu as a kid & have fallen totally in love with ELO....my dad passed away in 2007 & he looked just like jeff lynne..it's unbelievable but honestly true....peace & love to my dad...thx for passing on the music dad :-)

  • @dannyharrison09 You know- it's one of those rare albums that parents could gladly share with their children...and guess what- my son is listening to it with me- and clapping his hands!

  • @dannyharrison09 peace& love to your dad!

  • @szwagierism thank you very much....all the best to you & your family ...peace& love my friend

  • why oh why is this group not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

    politics i guess....

  • @azzurrirugby Yep. You guessed right.

  • @azzurrirugby A travesty!! There is a website you can go to and sign a petition to get them in....there is also another website that lists all the groups that are no in....you wouldn't believe some of them...a few I can remember are Rush.....Yes.....Hall and Oates.....Journey.....Kiss.....Chicago....Depche Mode......Foreigner.....Peter Frampton.....Heart....and the list goes on and on and on and on and..........well you get the picture!!

  • Perfectly played. Perfectly sung.

  • ...76,77gadi ELO daiļradē neapšaubāmi vienreizēji un...neatkārtojami

  • Out of the Blue was on my Christmas list when I was in my early teens, and I was so thrilled to find it under the tree! This was one of my favorites from the album, although I listened to ALL the songs frequently. There was none of that lifting the needle to skip songs...I listened to the WHOLE side, because every track was good!

  • Out Of The Blue is one of my absolutely favorite albums. One of the greatest albums in history of music. ... When I listen to todays top albums like - ONE LOVE (David Guetta) or FAME MONSTER (Lady Gaga) it is something absolutely different and I dont like it. This was music. Now we have only music for money. How sad. :(

  • Classic ELO, brilliant arrangement and such a stirring melody

  • Its songs like this, that make the album what it is - superb! Great tracks tucked away next to all the big chart tracks, all 4 sides are top NOTCH. This was the 1st album i ever bought, when it first came out and still one of my favourites!

The holy trilogy of OOTB, ANWR and Discovery - stuff of legends !!!

  • This song is 5 minutes long and I still think it's too short.

  • It is 2:30 AM and I have to go to work tomorrow... every time I play a new song, I see another that I MUST HEAR tonight.

Truly a world class unique band that should be recognized in the R&R hall of fame!

These guys were ARTISTS, unlike the cookie cutter crap that is produced today

  • man, I bought my 1st ELO Out of the Blue album for $14 - 1978 or 79. I haven't heard these songs for so long and I still remember the words as if I heard them yesterday. KUDOS ELO.

  • How can i get the song whitout lyrics voice??

  • I so agree.....listen to what went into this song this generation was cheated with a bunch of goofy novelty music and God awful Rap

  • For me, Out Of The Blue was ELOs finest album. Bring back big choir vocals, strings, perms n flared trousers mixed with Rock n Roll!

  • without doubt one of the best groups ever to grace the music world.Jeff Lynn is pure genius.

  • The most genial of the Lynne songs are among the least played. Roll Over B, Rockaria, Don't Bring me down and other very popular tunes, cannot compete with this one, Midnight Blue, Sweet is the night, Need her love etc...That's my opinion, but I go for fantastic melodies, more than 'rock' feeling...

  • OUT HERE IN THE POURING RAIN!

~D-Dang!~ on the piano key sounds like it hits a clunker note...

BUT -- that's the beauty of it, and the emotion. It's as though Lynne is trying to say (without actually saying it) that all the touring and traveling for months on end is killing him. He always hated touring.

  • "I've been thinkin' it over.

So many times they say 'You got it made',

    They never understand.

The answer lies within your soul,

'Cos no one knows which side the coin will fall."

You know, for a songwriter who always saved the lyrics for last, these are very deep words. Goes to show ya just how great an artist Jeff Lynne is!

  • You sending me love over and over..

  • I'm from Denmark going on holliday in England in 1977.

I was a little 13 year old dude.

First thing I had in my mind was buying this dobbeltalbum.

    I did and was thrilled.

Still to this day I'm thrilled listening to it...That's solid music.

    Simply fantastic!

Jeff Lynne is our time's Mozart!

  • @Dannydudelido This album, as opposed to Eldorado, still sounds modern.

  • @Dannydudelido Well said Danny. Jeff Lynne is a pure genius. I wish music was still being made like this. Best wishes

  • @Dannydudelido Well said Danny. Jeff Lynne is a pure genius. I wish music was still being made like this. Keep listening to REAL music like this. Regards

  • The first record I asked my dad to buy was The Skeleton and the Roundabout by the Idle Race when I was 5. When I was 15 I was saving up to buy Out of the Blue. A couple of years later (: I'm still thankful for the genius that is Jeff Lynne.

  • Concerto for a Rainy Day! It was years later that I saw this title. For many years this was the only record to play!

  • what an amazing piece of music cant believe this has virtually no recognition at all, these were for me the greatest band ever as it reminds me of my youth and my dad.

  • I see the big wheels turnin, never endin, on and on they go....

  • The strings at 4:37, goosebumps!!

  • This is an amazing song. 3:55 onwards is such a beautiful piece of songwriting.

  • Genius

  • Perfect song from start to finish, my favorite ELO ever. Should have been a single, should have been a smash.

  • Concerto for a rainy day has to be the highlight of Out Of the Blue. This Album is deffo on a par with Sgt Peppers....Jeff, you are a legend!

  • Goose Bumps!!!!!!!!! brilliant!!

  • I bought my first ELO album in 1979. It was the Discovery album and I then proceeded to buy the lot-even the dodgy early stuff ( which sounds better now than 30 years ago)

This music is timeless and so much better than what we have today and I apologise for sounding old.

  • @punditpete Screw your Apology ! the young punks need to hear something different and use their imaginations...

  • @punditpete I bought New World Record as my first ELO album. It was only my second rock album, as previously I'd bought only Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and a bunch of classical albums. Two girls I liked in high school loved ELO and so I bought A New World Record. Because ELO drew influences from both the Beatles and classical music, I found that I really loved A New World Record, and bought both Out of the Blue and Discovery when each first came out.

  • @punditpete pundit pete you dont have anything to apologise for ..........im in the same age group by the sound of it and i still love this music

  • @punditpete I am only 22 years old, but ELO is a big part of my earliest memories. Of all the music I like to listen to, I can listen to this for hours, never repeating a single song, and know every word. I love ELO!!!

TOP COMMENT AND I'M 48 ...NICE TOO SEE THE YOUNGER GENERATION LOVE MUSC FOM MY GENERATION, AND NOT JUST ELO, THERE WERE OTHER GREAT BANDS TOO

  • @barrybwfc im 17 and when i drive my jeep to school i listen to my Out of the Blue album and other 70s music

one of my favorites is black sabbath

  • I think Out Of The Blue should be considered one of the greatest albums of all time. Thriller by Michael Jackson and Sgt. Peppers and Let It Be by The Beatles as well as Back In Black by ACDC and Breakfast In America by Supertramp and Boston's self titled album and Night Songs by Cinderella are all just awesome albums.

  • Yes.

  • Whn he sings the word miiind in the last verse it's incredible it makes me shiver everytime i hear it, Brilliant!!!

  • My interpretation of this is different. I don't think its a depressing song but an ode to what might be.

  • its and E.L.O. day every day for me

  • I use to play alot off music on my work.

This next monday will be an ELO day!!!!!!!!!

Summer is comming, Mr. Blue Sky, it will be raining, Standin' in the Rain, and I will drive with my Big Wheels to work.

Ok guys/girls, monday 15 juni will be from now on ELO day!!!!!!

    Lets Rock!!!!!!!!

  • I Love this song, it signifies everything that is cool and brilliant about the Electric Light Orchestra!

  • This song is so sad!

It depresses me everytime, crying alot for all those 30 years that passed away since this record was released.

The time flies, never got an idea were all those years went. seems I lost time after buying this record.

Out of The Blue is timeless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Unbelievable beautifull emotional album.

ELO is like Mozart, the evention off something beautifull.

Musik like it had ment to be.

  • Dude, I feel your pain. OOTB is the best album ever written. I'm hearing you on FM. It's the best album ever...

  • I agree for a rainy day is progressive, that is to say it(he,she) begins with the rain, (continues) the rain in big wheels, there is a climatic improvement in summer and lightning, and the Sun goes out in Mr blue sky

    sorry for my English

    greetings

  • makes me wanna grow out big curly hair ,a mustache and beard and wear some big sunglasses and then grab a bottle of wine -a true classic - love ELO

  • mmmm big curly hair.......Jeff was sooo hot!!

  • The best of Concerto for the rainy days. Kelly we'll miss YOU

  • The echoes part always beautiful to listen to.

  • My God this is a wonderful song.

  • My ALL time fave ELO track...awesome.

    RIP Kelly Groucutt 1945 - 2009. We'll miss you

  • The best songs are often the ones where the rythm is slow like in this one. No rush, just a need to play and sing each note with as much perfection and emotion as possible.

  • The very peak of ELO. Maybe not as innovative as Face the Music but it had all come together. Sadly there was the long descent on the 2 albums afterwards that just went nowhere & were just "pumped out" to a formula.

  • kind of agree, buti think Out Of The Blue was,and still is a underated classic.

  • True, it is an underrated classic, but Discovery and Time did well too and are also classics...but not in the same way as Out of the Blue of course. After Time, they really started dissapating, but they still had a few good songs on Secret Messages and Balance of Power.

  • The best song from the Concerto For A Rainy Day "side" of the Out Of The Blue album. Great lead in for Summer and Lightning. Thanks for posting!
