Im from Congo ~It's a fact we cant ask to stop using electronics but whatz important here is to make those multinational co. to stop these massive xploitation of children w/o giving them a chance to a better life. Those co. should be FORCED to create, build. reconstruct/rebuild schools, libraries, museums, playgrounds for those children. They should help bring better materials to work those mines by adults & not CHILDREN. See the reason of these videos like that...
FUCK YOU IronJackalTw. I am a gay Jew. I have nothing against Asian people. Gays and Jews are not warmongers. It's racist, homophobic and small-minded MOTHERFUCKERS like you who are ruining the world. Hollywood has nothing to do with any of this. The wars in the Middle East are about oil, burned by all North Americans, regardless of race. You need to get your racist ass back into school and gain a bit of class.
Hollywood is GAY and RACIST toward any Asian People, since Asian People produced most of Cell Phones, Laptops, & other Electronics these days!! {roll my eyes}

Hollywood owned & controlled by WarMongers GAYS & JEWS that R busy murdering people in Middle East R ones that needs to be BOYCOTT!! >=(
A great lot of you are missing the point. It's NOT a boycott of technology, or really a boycott at all. The pledge that you text your signature to is sent to electronics companies asking them to push for greater transparency in the mineral trade (legislation is in Congress at the moment). That way they know where the resources they need come from, and then can purchase conflict-free minerals (which are fueling a war). A similar system was used for conflict diamonds.
True, but this kind of support is far more active than the action that the government has been taking so far. Its true that Obama administration has taken action but that's relatively new. And with more urgent priorities like Health care on his agenda, we can't count on the government to initiate these efforts. Sure boycotting wont solve the whole thing, but that's how the American Revolution started, and look where we are today. :)
just saw the irony there lol. but texting is one of the fastest way we have now to gain support and spread word, so it's necessary for this plan to work. And fyi, the conflict-free phones haven't even been made yet, so if you have the option to text, why not use it to help the raped women of Congo?
i never see these commercials on TV, its usually fast food, cleaning products, and upcoming movies. I would love to see more stuff like this in my face rather than the usual, i think it could reach a lot of people who don't purposely try to be aware of things like this. :]
Cell phones are not the only devices that may be contributing to the conflict. Tin, tantalum and tungsten are used in a broad cross-section of electronics, ranging from hearing aids and pacemakers, to airbags, GPS, ignition systems and anti-lock braking systems in automobiles, through to laptop computers, mobile phones, video game consoles, video cameras and digital cameras.
Is there a list of companies, distributors, suppliers, manufacturers, importers, exporters that avoid the use of conflict minerals? I don't believe western companies will not respond to moral appeals, only when their bottom line is threatened.
yes, the cell phones we are currently using to text the message probably has caused exactly that, but by sending it via a cell phone you are saying: i want these materials, but i want them fair.
They don't care if you use the cell phone you already have. They want to discourage the excessive consumerism in the west that creates the demand for conflict minerals. Texting on the phone you already is not so much as a problem as purchasing a new phone every year or so just to have the latest and greatest.
....but you are right....he did say "...when you use your cell phones". I guess ya have to grant him artistic license, look pass the actual words for the core message.
@iamthebeastboss That is not what the video is against; the video is against the unethical manner in which the metals are harvested from Africa. The fact that my cell phone may contain conflict minerals makes it personal to me, but not using my cell phone doesn't solve anything. If the public is aware of the source of the minerals, the phone companies could be forced to only acquire these in ethical ways.

Powerful and beautiful... well done... spread the message...to keep hope alive... no single life is less than another... we are all worthy to be here and to be free on this earth
I'm always so shocked at how unaware we are at the impact of many of our daily habits, like eating coffee (which can fund slavery) or as this video informs me using our cell phones! It's time reinstall some ethics into corporate America and demand fair trade practices to ensure peoples rights are not being violated for our luxuries!
Thank you everyone. This was a collaborative effort utalizing many God blessed talents. The piece was done for World Relief NEXT, produced by Emote360. World Relief is doing some amazing things on ground in Congo. This piece and the Enough Project are a perfect fit. Thank you for watching!

They want us to text. Using our cell phones, which is what the entire video is against, just found it ironic. Good video though.

its not against cell phones.
its against war and rape based on minerals.
