  • I used to make howlround in the eighties. All you needed was a old camcorder plugged into the TV for output (no digital displays in those days, etc.) You'd just point the camcorder at the screen.

You'd get Doctor Who stuff immediately. Then you could start dangling stuff, waving your hand, etc. between the camcorder and the TV.

Then you'd record in on the VHS. It was great. No processing to worry about, no settings, etc. It was all live.

  • @Yobotistan dont forget to keep the screen as a black and white screen otherwise you get random colors flying all over the place

  • wow, this is amazing! I can only get my own howlaroundfootage to be lots of vertcal stripes. how did you get it to flow out like that?

  • Watching that is like having a migraine the strobe lightening

  • I could've sworn this was a real Dr Who intro!

only thing I would say is at the end it shouldn't go back and forth but keep flowing.

    brilliant!

  • One of the best - if not the best - fan made title sequence i've seen so far. Well done!

  • You know you can do this for real with a black and white TV and a cam recorder. Of course you would have to add in the words and other bits and pieces after wards.

  • How did you manage to sustain a howlaround for more than 3 seconds? i spent hours trying but didn't even come close.

  • i know what you mean.

  • That would make a great title sequence for any new series of it!

  • have you tried putting something in front of the screen?

  • Oh yes i love the use of feedback in this. Very like a 405 line feed in places.

  • How do you get the howlaround to continue moving for more than three seconds? Unless I do a swirling effect nothing stays on my screen for more than a few seconds.

  • I had to manually adjust the exposure to get the pattern to sustain - when that's done the sharpening effect of the camera keeps the pattern going

  • Nicely done.

What software did you use to add the colours in?

Was this done from scratch or is this part of the titles test footage the BBC released as an easter egg on one of the DVDs?

  • Sony Vegas to colour the footage and add the text, all the footage was created by myself one long, quite boring evening!

  • Excellent! Very nicely done.

  • Read the description ;)

You have to point a camera at the tv to get swirley thingeys

  • I've done that with a camcorder;takes a lot of setting up to get it right.

  • Brilliant stuff, well done Marine Dalek. Can I also say, if your the same guy, that I like some of your Who themes you've put up on the Whomix Trilete site too. =)

  • It would be nice if the Doctor Who title was part of the howlaround and could interact and change the shapes behind it. I tried it once - with a paper cut out taped onto the screen. The results were... okay...

  • Really, the only thing it needs is an image of the Doctor (and no, I don't think anyone would complain if it was you). It's as good as the howlarounds got, so nice work.

  • nice work indeed!

  • Seems like an alternate version of the old style Dr. Who titles. Wouldn't it be cool if they had a different title intro for each story?

  • nice

  • neat

  • I like it very much, it reminds me of the john pertwee doctor who titles, i suppose that is what it is based on in a way
