  • Man... play this game on Amiga is pure magic...

  • i was always this guy i thought i already had the golden axe :)

  • Amiga will never die :)

  • I seem to remember a stage after the last one with skeletons,.

Also, when you kill the enemy on the throne an axe would spin around and slice through him. What version was that?

  • @flakelorenz02

The extra stage with skeletons is the Sega Mega Drive\Genesis version.

Every version (including this one) has the the spinning axe that slices through him, the reason you didn't see it in the video is because the boss was off-screen when he died.

  • Watch out bra! There's a guy coming at you with a handfull of grapes!!

  • Why does like everyone on youtube play as the fucking dwarf? He's lame! Use the hot chick!

  • Thumbs up if you hated the camera movement, but you loved so much this epic game anyway!

  • is it just me that the music and the sound effects on Amiga sounds better than sega?

  • @coolasshole23 I somewhat agree with the sfx (although I love the screams on MD) but music definitely sounds better on MD.

  • @coolasshole23 Not only that the scenery has more ''crisp'' quality really goes well with it.

  • 110% my favourite game ever :D

  • compare the amiga soundtrack to the mega drive soundtrack.

  • I LOVE IT. I USE TO ALWAYS COMPLETE THIS GAME WITH THE MAN DRESSED IN GREEN AND WITH A CHEAT MODE ON THE AMIGA 500.

  • I LOVE IT. I USE TO ALWAYS COMPLETE THIS GAME WITH A CHEAT MODE ON

    THE AMIGA 500.

  • two player was awesome...

  • Outro is cool.

  • Amazing game!

  • Since I don't know too much about the Amiga..I have to ask,When that Floppy Disk icon appears in place of the Character Life icon, does that mean that the game is loading?

  • This is definitely my favorite out of the home versions. The Megadrive port was too slow and bland. Amazing game!

  • this really is better on the megadrive, thats where it belongs, this version is still good tho

  • cool ending :)

  • Music and sound, always love it when Amiga games feature both in addition to a well made port.

Great music, though nothing quite matches the Arcade/Megadrive versions of the Death Adder tune.

  • At 5:35

He raises his hand, summons a lot of thunders and that kind of special effects who kills all his enemies and for last he mounts a blue dragon, IT'S SO FREAKIN EPIC!

  • AND MY AXE! GO GIMLI BEAT THEIR ASSES!

  • HOLY SHI- I'm speechless. That music is awesome.

  • Best game!!!

  • AHAHAH 0:58 SUPERLOL

  • Oh my god, nostalgia much! I was only about 5 but I rememmber the music esp so well! The game scared the shit out of me though, but I was a little girl, what didn't?

  • Everyone wants to play as axeman!

  • @viktorhat Damn straight, but i'll say this,if I had the choice again I would choose an ST or Amiga anytime over the NES/SNES or Megadrive.I was the only one of my friends to have one, they all had consoles and still much prefered my ST.

  • @viktorhat Probably,but then I was only 7 years old.I thought I was pretty lucky.

  • a dwarf kicking an elf? wow, now that would cause uprage.....

  • @cubex55 I love the amiga long play set of vids, they bring back alot of memories, good job. However the atari st and amiga were similar,I actually had an ST.I tried to go through the ST longplay vids but they only seem to go up to around 01-10.Is there a complete playlist for the ST like you have for the amiga,if so i'd like to check them if they exist, can you help point me in the right direction, thanks mate.Keep up the good work, mikked.

  • amiga music is good

  • Comment removed

  • Amiga version has amazing music

  • Ich hab das Spiel immer zusammen mit meiner Cousinne gespielt, sie war die Kriegerin ich war der Schwertkämpfer, so nostalgisch :-)) der beste Teil der Serie finde ich

  • I always wondered why those little chickens along the sides of the giant turtle sopped you from falling off...

  • This is the grandfather of Diablo

  • @ZeroCGR2 Bosoku Wars may be the original grandfather of doom. It was made in 1984 by ACSII for the Famicom NES

  • the Amiga allways seemed to have good bass drum qualitys

  • Music = Good

    Graphics = Sub-par Atari ST quality !

  • This one is my favorite video game. Thanks for posting dude.

  • raoo raoo raoo dank dank bonk ....argh!!!

  • man i love those ol' quirky tunes thx. 4 postin

  • And I thought: "Take the dwarf, take the dwarf, take the dwarf!" Yes! I always liked him the best. Although low on magic, he is a stout and fierce warrior.

    Best regards,

    sys

  • please SEGA , patch the xbl version with this music.

  • that kid at the end is dead! in the arcade version the main 3 characters come out to help you, but not here!

  • in pc version the color of the axe was different, and the magic of the dwarf was different too.

  • Great game! If I remember correctly didn't the dwarf have a rolling+slash attack as well? Also can you imagine a game being released today that you could finish in 17 minutes? People complain if a game takes 30 hours to complete now lol.

  • DEATH=ADDER

  • Great game and music!

  • Another god awful arcade/console port to Amiga.

  • That skeleton in character selection screen scared me when I was about 6 years old.

  • 8:24 - "Dude, I'm starving. I'm gonna go kick some elves, you want something while I'm there?"

  • One of my favourite games.

  • Who the hell ported this?!?!

    Atari ST quality, if that.

  • i didn't really like the dwarf.. i found this other warrior and the chick to be much cooler. ^^

  • Hey anyone remember Stag? Any idea where i can get these so i can press F3 and see the list of movies they used?

  • The "arcade ending" looks way funnier here than in the own arcade version of the game.

  • A good conversion,i was happy with this on Christmas morning 1989 or 1990 or whenever it was.Not arcade perfect but it did not dissapoint,it was close enough.

  • the colours look very good on that system. and the music seems a little different,

  • This shows that with the right programers the amiga could handle these types of games very well,Us Gold would screw up all of the conversions they did.

  • i have golden axe on iphone play it all dat

its a good game.. brings me like 13 years back

  • i always played the Dwarf. The lighning was pretty good!

  • Gilius Thunderhead.

  • HAGA, lol

  • that said great on both

  • i like the music better on the amiga but think mega drive (genesis) looks closer to the arcade

  • mega drive (genesis) vs the amiga version?

  • the ending... lol. That kid got well owned!

  • seemed very easy when we play this with brother it was much harder

  • LOL THE ENDING :D

  • Classic!!!

  • Awesome!! :]

  • the music on stage 3 !!! :P

  • When you like Games this is a MUST Game :)

  • i was like 11 when i played this game...i always thought the music sounded like that song by the eurythmics..lol i never forgot it...and now that i hear it, i can see why Great posting dude

  • man remeber those knights at 14:20 used to be so hard :p

  • The music kicks ass!

  • couldn't agree more!

  • @Rabyte no ma jak chuj!!!

  • @Rabyte Yup, sampled sure beats the hell out of those dentist's drills and the like :)

  • Man, I know they say dwarves are supposed to be strong but this one holds a GOLDEN BATTLEAXE with one hand, even while attacking. I'm sorry, that's fucking badass.

  • @halidefox Also gold is a reletively weak metal, and yet he can still hold his own.

  • @halidefox And he's not too muscular looking either. Must be a big bones fella =)

  • @halidefox He is viking.

  • Awsome ending, never had the bad guys all chasing u out the arcade on the Mega Driver version!

  • i agree on that the controllers are the best, but a great player can play on keyboard and anything!!!

Its like a great painter can paint great with every brush

  • Amiga version is the most accurate side by side to the coin op machine.

Everything has been incorporated in it :D

Even PC and genesis versions lacks many things during the game....

  • I'm amazed how all the home versions get the first level music wrong. The melody is supposed to ascend to the next octave at the end of the phrase. My brain was telling me it should then when I heard the arcade for the first time I was like I knew it was meant to.

  • the was a glitch on 11:33 wich lets you jump higher out of the screen

  • Huh? How can anyone play Golden Axe on a keyboard?!

  • actually, that's very easy :)

  • How? The keyboard isn't the best input device for VIDEO GAMES or GAMES for that matter.

    Controllers are better.

  • Surprisingly I've found in some cases the keyboard is better then a Controller for some games, tho it variates with each game, also its compatibility in a sense, growing up with Doom might of helped. Keyboards say Horrid for The Ozze(sega), but Great for say Comix Zone(Sega)

  • my favourite port of the game even though some levels are missing! The amigas sound processor definetely produced the best sounding version of the game, i actually prefer the amigas sound to the original coin op machine! Especially level 2! Fantastic! Another thing about the amiga port, even though it was on a level to level multiload it was HARDLY noticable, and we are talking incredibly slow FDD!!!

  • additional, it streamed from floppy during the game! Remember and if you look in the video, the floppy disk icon next to the amount of lives remain! Still it was hardly noticable!

  • I always thought the End part was so cool

  • hel yeah gilius ftw. I never really cared too much for magic. I mean, who needs magic if you get killed before reaching the final boss to use it? xD.

  • best game ;p

  • Haha, I remember this game was soo0 shitty compared to Moonstone ;)

  • Had this for genesis, great game!

  • I totaly forgot about this game, It was so damn good! I remeber finishing it all with my brother. But I don't remeber the sound being as shown in this clip hmm, Iv played it on amiga.

  • i prefer the sound on the atari st

  • WTF was that at 2:28?

    First time I see that...

  • Do you mean magic???

  • Yes, indeed.

I never saw magic in Golden Axe...

  • For Bazooka: It is the magic of Gillius Thunderhead.

The protagonists of Golden Axe have magical powers, and Gillius Thunderhead's are based on thunder.

I hope I did not misunderstand what you asked.

    Guido.

  • Lol The guys head changes in a flopydisk when he saves.... 8 bit tunes Kickass!!!

  • when it loads

  • ahhh the days...unlucky young kids that missed this

  • loool jaki cwel lool..

  • The music kicks ass!

  • This game rocks! used to play it much as a kid =) thanks for uploading this, brings back alot of memories!

  • this was my favourite ever game as a kid and on the amiga

  • The Amiga has hit sound effects similar to the genesis version. :O

  • I played this when I was a kid :D and many other amiga-classics, oh I miss that time :)

  • Always loved the arcade and Genesis versions. Had never seen the Amiga version, so it was interesting to see it. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Sound was a bit weak for the Amiga. (Seems like naff megadrive -type sfx...)

  • Kevin Bulmer done a good job on the pixel art.

  • it's different than the one i played...the last boss..he didn't go down while hitting him..and there is a part missing...you know...until you reach the boss..strange..

  • 4:45

He tries to fry the orphans that run past. I always tried to do that too. :-)

  • my first favorite gam *-*

  • this game was actually quite hard

  • I used to play this game togather with my brother

    Good old times

  • man i used to love this game. i actually might go and play it right now

  • if you like it and have a 360 you can download it on xbox live

but for sure try castle crashers im hooked on that now

  • playstation 3's download games are boring they don't have arcade classics games

  • I liked the Amiga version the best, liked the sound, graphics and game play but arcade was the best over the consoles :).

  • The spells in amigas version are a bit overpowered.

  • MAME ARCADE VERSION IS THE BEST ONE!!!

  • loved this game back then, spend hours at the arcade, and music is awesome aswell!

  • still remember everything about this game, must be 15 years on, how sad. brilliant, bring em back.

  • I used to spend hours on this game. Although on 2 player mode it was way way too easy. Thanks for posting! Good memories :o)

  • Arcade version 1s Nº1 no doubt

  • LET THERE BE LIGHT----NING

  • My dad had this in his arcade for about a year and i loved it, when he threw it out without letting me take things out and make a box for it and everything i was heartbroken!

  • the amiga had great music better than the arcade in some cases like this

  • Agreed, the music was awesome!

  • Blooper at 3:16

  • I wouldn't really call it "Longplay" even though you are completing the whole game, as it's such a short game! Haha...

  • didnt know there was an amiga version

well i guess u learn omething everyday

  • More arcade perfect compared to the Genesis version (at least graphics wise)

Just compare the sign/rocks in the background in the end of the first level with the Arcade and Genesis version.

  • Genesis is superior! Better graphics, faster, better animation, and better music!

  • You are right, Genesis version is faster and has more animation frames!!

But, are you blind ?? Compare both versions to the Arcade version... The genesis uses some remade/simplified background graphics.. The Amiga uses the original arcade graphics.

To be honest, the music is fine, but the pseudo PSG sound in the Amiga version is kind of sucky.. It would have been nice if they just have had used the superior audio hardware properly in the Amiga version.

  • I guess if your trying to look for anything to be better then the genesis. But the genesis is just still better. Of course the genesis has two extra stages also.

  • Psg or not, this still sounds better than the genesis game.

But you can't be serious about the graphics, this versions colors are all messed up! Yellow skin tones? Light blue armor? They could've done better I'm sure..

  • woohooo! you where faster than that dude who beat the genisis version.

  • Brings back memories

  • wow the music is so much better on the amiga! better midi sounds i guess.and rid of some of the strage "off" notes on the megadrive versions

  • I like this version but it's realy short

  • Arcade is shorter.

  • So who's the midget dude who sprints by at 01:07?? I never quite figured that out. Looks like he's wearing jeans, a t-shirt and a baseball cap.

  • The only part about this version I like is that the ending is similiar to the arcades.

  • looks and plays pretty good!

  • one of my favorite games , i loved the ingame music !

  • AMIGA version was best golden axe version...god i miss childhood

  • Not really played the Amiga version properly, but this really looks like a solid conversion, easily on par with the Megadrive version.(better quality sound too)

  • This game was mega fun with 2 players! Damn, it brings back so many memories! Countless kicking but with Dwarf and Amazon!

    Killer tune!

  • So true!

  • he's playing my favorite character!

  • music reminds me of conan the barbarian movie theme

  • loved this game

  • i played this at the age of three!, i can remember kicking those little blue and green dwarfs!

The map screen music is amazing!

  • which version is the closest to the arcade in terms of visuals?

  • golden axe 1

  • for which system though? longplay, genesis? something else. my memory is foggy and it's hard to remember exactly what the arcade looked like.

  • I'd think possibly the MS-DOS port in VGA mode. The only thing I've noticed is that every home port seems to omit a few subtle details from the arcade machine, like the fleeing people, or an enemy kicking a helpless peasant.

  • Ah this game brings back good memories :3

  • LOL at 2:32

  • man play it on the original genesis its more of an experience

  • That little green dwarf is the most kickass character ever

  • amiga had some pretty goood graphics for its time, nice vid
