@splinter360 i agree, just pixies weren't as gimmicky as the beatles were (bowl hair, suits, etc) i think to me that somehow makes them more believable and likable
@RecalcitrantMule13: No, the pigs are javelina. And they really are not pigs. I agree with the rest of your description. They are sometimes mean, and they don't like people when they have young with them.
That long extended "Havaliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiina" vocal by Kim in this song is some of the best singing she did in this band. I saw Pixies on their "reunion" tour in 2004 and I still found her sexy as f@#%!!! Even though she appeared nervous at times...very sweet.
Yes, they play it live. When I saw this tour in SF in like '91, they played it. Such a gorgeous song regardless of subject matter -- as Kim shouted out when they started playing it that night, "THIS IS A SONG ABOUT A PIG!"
This is phenomenal. Bossanova is the under rated album. It is GREAT! This band were the best of all time. When he starts singing 'Walking in the breeze...' that is just to die for. Thanks Frank!
I was backpacking w/ a friend on Apache rez land near Goldwater bombing range. Sun had just set, we were cooking hot dogs on his camp stove, it was very dark. Suddenly heard hooves all around and lots of grunting. Stupidly, I imitated the sounds. Then they got much louder and closer. We both stood up and backs to the stove began shouting at the darkness. Something was 3 feet from me but i couldn't see it. They finally left. In the morning i saw a single havelina track on the hard ground.
saved up my school dinner money to buy this on casette back when it came out. Was the best song on the album. Went to the bossa nova belfast gig too, absolutely class.
theres a reference in the song to sedona arizona. I camped there once. A hobo i met told me that the javelina are the only thing to be feared at night since they movw in packs, are not afraid of humans and have been known to sack camps at night. In tucson the desert had eyes at night. So I always think of my time in the senora desert when i hear this song
I can't think of any Pixies songs I enjoy more than this one.

Sometimes you hear a song that's so beautiful that you can't help but get just a little misty-eyed, even if it's only for a moment.
sigh. Every time I hear this song, it still manages to bring tears to my eyes. Perfection.
