  • thanks, now my mac will run for at least another two or three years.

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Very helpful

  • what do you hold down on a pc keyboard to reset the PRAM?

  • o ok so i can use a ddr3 on a macbook early 2007?

  • @leodiaz117816 NO!!!! format means its size factor, the chipset dictates RAM read/write, 07 does not support DDR3, this vid had DDR2 BUT the new mac mini's RAM at DDR3 will work with current macbooks using DDR3 not older models

  • dos ea macbook use the same ram?

  • @leodiaz117816 the mac mini uses SO-DIMM format which is the same as a laptop

  • What are you a mime?

  • what is the porpourse of reseting the PRAM

  • Hey man,

    Great video.

    Tks!"

  • Hey Thanks - Mom's mini is from sometime in either late 06 or early 07 so this video will come in very handy when I go to upgrade the RAM. I already have the RAM, just needed to finally get a putty knife. Thanks again for sharing this!

  • can it take any more than 2 GB?

  • you can take it up to 4

  • that's cool!

  • Who said you could not upgrade the mac's hardware ?

  • umm no1

  • Yes, people think that you can only upgrade pc's,

    but there crazy,

  • for some reson i cant see the average joe do this, on a resonable mini pc you just open the case and pop in two more strips of ram.

  • NIGHTMARE! Worst thing ever. I pretty much destroyed my mini. My Airport Antenna pretty much fell off. I had NO IDEA where to put it, so I guess. I guessed right, because even though I destroyed it it works perfect. Jumping from 1GB to 3.5GB....the speed increase.....AMAZING!!!!

  • Cool vid, quite an easy job if you take your time with it

  • my suggestions to those who try this, get tweezers, magnetic screw drivers and make sure you don't disconnect the airport antenna from the terminal. be very gentle with the little black power connect near the front of the drive. I only pried on it a little and managed to mangle it.

  • what a fucking nightmare this is... i had successfully upgraded mine to 2.5GB to get Logic running smoother. Then i decided to upgrade my dads by removing my 512MB, to install in his, i realized his had two 256MG so i had to crack open mine again. Well two things went wrong, i broke a small piece of the little power plug off and it made it hard to get it back in since i didn't see the tiny sliver of plastic blocking the input... then after having the thing back together my airport died.

  • i was about to say, i fucked this up... have to take it to Apple to fix it... then took it apart 2 more times and realized i had inadvertently disconnected the main airport antenna!!! i and using my mini now so i guess i connected it to the right spot. there were two areas where you could connect it so i just guessed either would work? lol, fuck. Then the 4 screws got out of order since i was pissed and in a hurry to find out if it would work. So i just hope it holds together.

  • I'll tone it back a little and just say that it's stupid and potentially dangerous to remove the ribbon cable. There is absolutely NO reason to do it. And, echoing most everyone else, wtf is with the obnoxious music?

  • youtube flagged the music/aduio and so i have to find music that is "certified" for the length of the vid, do you know of any? I will use it.

  • You're an idiot.

  • thanks, not much choice from youtube when the blank out the audio and the selection of music they have. its a 8:25 vid and not too many songs are that long.

  • Comment removed

  • its not mandatory but by bringing the top piece over and if you are not careful you can pull the ribbon too hard. Removing the ribbon in no way messes up the machine.

  • what the hell is wrong with you....its a fucking computer video not a gay dance club

  • That music is annoying as fuck, you dick.

  • yea i know, this vid got flagged because it had way better music but was under copyright. This song was the only one long enough. I am remaking this vid though.

  • what song is this

  • Good tutorial, and good music.

  • Is it easy to update the core of a Mac Mini?

  • What's up with all the techno songs in these videos? Can't you comment on what is going on instead? Or just show without distracting silly music?

  • Yeah I agree, music is gay on computer tutorials; there is no place for it.

  • yea, i had to pick something as music was in the background and it was flagged for audio.

  • which is even gayer.

    good video bro.

  • its pretty cool i love the trance music from europe

  • Thank you very much. mrbit10

  • What in the hell is so fucking hard about turning off the God damned music and giving a proper tutorial? This is like the 10th video I've seen with music and no commentary! Otherwise, it's at a fair speed at least and not some fast forwarding time lapse like some of the others. I'm just totally frustrated that there are so many video tutorials with no commentary!

  • it was copyright music in the background and had to be replaced with approved audio, thus a song. I will make another vid doing this as well as another mini hd center vid.

  • i know i mean its a tutorial not a fuckin dance party

  • LOL, that comment made me LOL

  • whoa! gotta apologize. I was pretty pissed that night. Trying to get the new ram in my mini. every tut i looked at was just so weird, and completely unhelpful.

  • tu debre touch the box

  • I like your video commentary. Most audio commentary sux anyways. Tips for next time: better lighting and try not to get your hand in the way of the camera.

Thanks for sharing! Ignore the haters.

  • hey you shuld have upgraded the cpu while you were in there!!!!!!! hahahah i wish i had the balls to do that

  • The cpu is glued down on the latest minis. Come on Apple! WTF!

If you find a way to replace the processor, please share!

  • I would rather have a commentary instead of the techno crap music.

I did turn the volume down!

  • This vid is fantastic

watched it a couple of times and then bit the bullet and upgraded my mac, now it's runnin like a dream

thanks dude you saved me around £30 on paying some1 else to do it. you rock!!

  • thanks very much! :) Long live the mini!

  • Is the option-button the one left of command? (I don't have the english keyboard)

  • buy new keybord in english!!!

  • Why would I? I live in Sweden.. dumbass.

  • This video worked for me. Got to see how to do it without any confusing dialog. Gonna power down and upgrade now.

  • "mrbit10" ... Seriously dude- this vid SUCKS ... I know your probably scared to actually talk on the vid due to your EXTRA high & effeminate voice, but try hard to get over that & MAN-UP! Next thing you do is shut off that GAY-CRAP corn pone music. Then verbally explain what you are doing step by step, & start from the beginning, by showing how to take off the top piece of the mac ... Thank YOU-

  • Seriously dude- your attitude SUCKS

  • most geniuses aren't very good with people ;)

  • Your hands just cover the screen when you unplug the ribbon and front connector. Could you make another video and try put your camcorder in a better angle? So we can see how you unplug those cables?

  • yea you are right, i have plans on redoing a few vids and will have to include this one.

  • also, you do not need to remove the ribbon if you do not want to, but be careful as you would just flip over the cd drive to the back of the mini to get access to the ram.

  • whats the song? o.o i like it lol

  • it is music from the youtube audio swap and should be found by following the links to itunes or amazon above.

  • alrighty thank you :)

  • I also noticed a HDD what dimensions is it.

  • Thanks for the video. I just updated my Mini to 2GB of ram using your video.

    Big thumbs up!

  • glad to hear it!!! :)

  • Does this void the Warrenty?

  • yeah

  • Not praying to Steve jobs five times a day voids the warranty.

  • I only prayed to him 4 times today though =(

  • it doesnt void warranty your only upgrading the ram

  • cool vid!!

put your mini on foam or something , you'll scratch it like that !!

  • Background music: 4 points, hairy arms: 3.5 points. Overall a good production. I was hanging all the way until I suddenly realized I had purchased desktop RAM instead of laptop RAM. Looks like I'll be driving all over the place tomorrow looking for the right memory cards.

  • ok if there was ever any question if I'd buy a mac mini that seals it. I'm not messing with ribbon cables again. pata sata are easy but ribbon cables are evil.

  • Great video, you should combine your and thecreativeone's Mac upgrade videos to create like the ultimate MAC DIY UPRGRADE SERIES!!!! lOL

  • Oh this is fucking simple. You should see the RAM upgrade for the original (1998) imac.. I'd rather staple my balls to a Mac Mini than do that again.

  • the emac is fun to lol

  • It looks difficult, but I dunno...I might try it cause I'm thinking of getting the mac mini with 1.83ghz core 2 duo (was thinking of 24 inch iMac or a macbook pro before, but I need to save up some of my earning from summer for rest of the year) and 1 gb ram. I already have the 2gb ram/667mhz/PC2 5300s. dunno if that s at the end will make any difference...got it from crucial for my old laptop

  • bloody hell tht looks diffiult, ahh i love my mac mini ive had it for jut over 2weeks now and it runs lyk a DREAM ive got the 1.86GHZ model with 1gig of ram and its awesome, nice vid... i will watch more

  • Good ol' mac mini's, i wonder why they changed the layout when it moved from G4 to Intel - the RAM looked a lot easier to upgrade on the old G4's lol

Anyways, ive ordered an iMac and a 2gb stick to whack in (making it up to 3gb). When i install the extra stick would i need to reset the PRAM aswell? Cheers!

  • it is always a good practice, but many times you will not need to.

  • Thanks!

  • can i upgrade up to 4gb

  • yes, i've done it.

  • It Was So Easy

  • Great video. Thanks for step by step. Got my memory in my mini in no time. Thank you for the video.

  • Nice Tutorial. I have upgraded my Mini one minute ago.

It's not really necessary to unplug the cable near the connector on the back.

Just a quest: I've not reseted PRAM, but after first boot my System Information was already with 2GB. Can I avoid the PRAM reset???

  • if the RAM was recognized then yes you can skip it. As for the back connector, yea you can get away without unplugging it but have to be more careful not to put too much stress on it. Thanks for the comment.

  • Cool. Very informative, but you have to tell me the name of that song. It is awesome. Anyway nice video.

  • 1st DJ shadow "Meets his maker"

    2nd Voices by Dario G

  • It looks fairly complicated compared to the iMac.

  • lol it is.

  • man mac minis are fast as hell with 2 gig of ram... im putting a super drive and a 200 gig 7200 rpm hd in mine soon...mine got core 2 duo 1.83ghz so it flys

  • right on!

  • NICE ONE MR BIT10

  • Do I see my Microsoft keyboard in the back ground?

mrbit10 you better not take my stuff. & i want my Asus remote back.

  • Yep...lol, it is connected to my ADV Sever 2000.

I host a lot of my projects on it.

  • no worries it is going to good use, think of it as a charitable gift....lol.

  • TuneeeeeeeeeeeeS , Nice video

What's the name of the first tune you played?

  • lol DJ Shadow song = Meets His Maker

  • wats ur head phone model sennheiser rite

  • Sennheiser HD201 Headphones

  • how was the performance on the 512?

  • i will do benchmarks after leopard install.

  • nice video i bet that mini flys now

  • yes, it took off and handles my two tuners 1: analog

    1: HD

    very smoothly now.

  • brilliant, def be upgrading mine in the future.lol
