omg she is sooo cute! I just got a cockatiel and named her Laila and she loves her head rub. She doesn't make that loud of a noise though. She does meep softly sometimes. How old is Ashlee in this video? Laila is almost 6 months (i believe) and im hoping she stays this sweet for the rest of her life.
in the morning my parents always take my bird out of his cage and put him on the ground, he scurries up to my room once hes up there he knows he was sent to wake me up so he starts walkin on mah face but a good head rub seems to stop this annoyingness. :D
;0; Mine loves that but she died!!!!! She was a lutino, and my mom gave me yesterday for present a "new" cockateil --as if my girl could be replaced easily and fast!! I needed my time :s--- but I am here just for asking, this cockatiel what kind of mutation is? I assume it's a white face? but not sure o.o i am confused
Adorable. I've never owned one myself, but I worked in a pet shop for several years. Most of the tiels we had through weren't friendly since they hadn't been socialized so much, but we had a pair of Lutinos that were JUST like this. More affectionate than a lot of dogs I've encountered in my time, really charming animals, and yours is no exception.
I think Howlsahmam meens, the whole process and bonding experiance, of brindging home a baby bird, hand fedding it and weaning, it you really enojy it, i know i did, you guys inspired me to do it, with a baby quaker i got :P
No. I would keep the baby - I never got a chance to keep a baby from the clutches I've had (and I really wanted to). They were all adopted out by family friends, and family.
I want a bird to be attached to me, for me, because I took care of it..
my bird likes that that too! when we pet her then stop, she starts rubbing her head on my finger, it's so cute! she's also a really clean bird! all you can see is her yellow feathers and the orange cheek things lol!
Not really, from expierence i say parakeets are. Female teils only screech when they are calling for thier owners. Other than that, they´re quiet. I don´t know much about males, never owned one :(
How did you overcome the instinctive aversion to fingers? I have 2 teils & they both hiss & nip if I try to do that. Oddly, one of them lets me rub his neck only when his beak is pressed against my face!
@pokolikespeko with birds its about building trust. There are many books on how to help your birds overcome fear.. such as your hands. My bird used to do the same, it took a year for him to trust my fingers and now he lets me feed him with them and rub his tummy and head.
Everything works in increments, very slowly.. using lots of treats. Im sure there are many good forums for you to join and you will find many good advice on there.
@pokolikespeko We have a similar issue with our 'tiel.. loves face to face contact and especially being kissed, but doesn't like fingers at all. Fiesty and fearless bird, too. Ours is almost 5 months old, too. Each bird has a unique personality.
When do you know when your bird is under-weight? I usually know all about cockatiels but I have no clue how to tell. I can feel her breast bone, but I've been feeding her those honey sticks. Please help me to find out if she is underweight without me having to buy a bird scale!
my bird is 3 months old and loves it when he gets hes head rubbed. he also likes his beak to be rubbed, but mostly his head. it's so funny how they tilt their head from side 2 side saying, "ahhhh. now this side. a little to the left. ahhhh right there."
I have a 12 year old female hen, that LOVES head-rubs/scritches < she knows the meaning of the word. If you say: "scritches" - her head goes down and she just goes into heavenly bliss, just like this lovely wee gal, Ashley. So sweet!!!!
very good they are so affectionate at times- have a look at my videos of how smart cockatiels are - opening the cage doors to "escape" and disco dancing, etc
Mine does that too, except less of a screech, more or a cat purr. If I stop, then she'll walk over and start rubbing her head on my hand, and if she;s on my shoulder, then her soft little head will rub on my nose, lips or my cheek. and sometimes in my ear XD
same wif my cockatiel, mine didnt do tht b4 when we just got her, but over a few months, like 3 months or soma i guess she got more used to me and started doing the same thing.
My bird does that too. If you stop rubbing her, she will walk over to you hand and push her head against it until you rub her again. We love her so much
I dunno, mrstayman. They didn't hold her head like that when they fed her; that was more of a somewhat firm grip near her beak to keep the food from goobing everywhere. This is a lot softer and more gentle, and they're rubbing her from the back of the head and under the cheek.
I dunno, it just seems too different to me. I know I've seen some weaned cockatiels that've learned to make the baby crying noise when they want their owner to give them attention, though ...
i have 2 lutino one is male and one is female and i also have a split that is lutino cinnamon..and that one is female .My male is mean he will try to bite if u try to touch him and it hurts but my female lutino is my baby i have had her the longest and she will yell for me when i leave the room its so sweet i can kiss her and run her and just cuddle lol she is a doll but on the other hand my lutino cinnamon she wont bite or anything she is she and runs from ya when u try to get her out
wow i cant stand a jerk ...that bird is just too cute for words and for soem 1 to say its ugly is just wrong and i wanna just smack em in the face ..so vince0o7 just STFU
she was pretty bad looking at that point (she had sour crop and was severely under weight when we got her). you should see her now. she is absolutely stunning.
man dont listen to him your bird is absolutely stunningly beautiful. I cant wait on mine, he is almost 3 weeks and is the runt of the group. he still has pin feathers but he will be mine soon and i will be handfeeding him i cant wait. my lovebird parakeet and amazon will be curios of him aswell.
My cockatiel always nibbles on my finger whenever I put my hand near it. :S He makes a weird noise when I open my cage, I'll post a video if anyone wants to see..
It very well might be. Molting's an itchy and sometimes painful process, so keep a close eye on his moods, and make sure he's got lots of healthy stuff he can snack on. Please make sure that you have some toys that he can take his frustration and pain out on too.
Check and see if your 'tiel is a girl. That would probably explain it. Other than that, your birdy could just be hormonal, and might be starting to molt.
I just recently got a male cinnamon to be a companion to my female grey. They are so cute together and they both have to have their head and neck rubs.
Your cockatiel is verry pretty, I have a grey cockatiel. She's verry pretty but, her first owner dropped her in front of a pet shop after closing at night at she spent the night alone and when they found her she had ripped out all the feathers from under her wings. Now she's verry happy and I lover her alot.
She reminds me of my EmmyZ. She used to love headrubs, and would try to poke her head through the bars of her cage to get them. As she aged though she grew out of it. :(
I HAVE to ask though, what breed is your baby? She's such a unique color!
My cockatiel is absolutely pathetic and adorable she'll let you pet her for hours if you would do it lol and she doesnt bite at all one time she actually fell asleep in my hand while i was petting her!
She demands the headrubs! She will cry out if we hit a blood feather, but doesn't bite. We have worked on socializing her and maintaining her tameness.
to bad my lovebird hates it cause i gave it another lovebird so it makes my other lovebird preen its head and makes me watch but he asked me before i got him a other lovie
i cant even touch my cocktail without it threatening me to bite....anyways yours is adorable!!! lots of love <33
