Man I love the clothing used for these dances... By the way, I used this in my speech class as an example of Odissi style for my speech on belly dance throughout the ages and continents =)
Your eyes let me see Durga's mind when going into war to battle the demon Mahisha. Such anger, morality and strength while knowing the demon will be slayed in the end. Bravo! The eyes are important in classical Indian dance because they let you see a world that is not your own. It's the heart's way of seducing the viewer.
Have you ever met Ratna Roy? I almost met her once but didn't know she was at the odissi concert performed by the Patnaik sisters and Yudhistir Nayak. I used to correspond with her but she is so busy that we haven't spoken in such a long time!
thanks nandini...that was really enlightening....further can you elaborate on the basic differences between diffrerent classical dance forms...especially odissi and bhartnatyam
gr888 dance nandini.....mesmerising.....but there is sumthng i need to clarify....i had heard tat odissi is a deliber8 dance form....but i suppose this was quite fast paced ....much like bharatnatyam....frankly am qite naive about it....cud u throw sum light upon it
I don't quite understand what you mean by 'deliber8 danceform' . Odissi is both - at times slow and graceful and at times very fast. Often, the variations in speed and rhythm are juxtaposed with each other. In this item though there are two distinct parts- the slower first part describes the beauty of Goddess Durga and the latter, faster part describes the ten weapons with which she fights Mahishasura.
The style of Odissi that you do, Nandiniji, is it the mahari-style or is it more the gotipua-style? I am just beginning to study Odissi and I find it an inspiration that you have done this so well.
IF it was UTTERLY ur comment thn y should u bring demeaning comparisons between her and other reputed and talented dancers like Debamitra by especially mentioning the name???....if u had to just comment on nandini's dance u are supposed to do it from an impartial viewpoint......
Was it malicicous or whatever... why that is not at all where i was targeting...It is also UTTERLY my opinion that i feel Nandini has done absolute justice to this Durga stuti then Debamitra . I know few who performs this items magnificiently and few who dosen't at all .Thats my choice of thinking ok. Its all there in the ytube to see and learn .
@nandinighosal ,right Nandini, and even both compositions are different to compare. She is very graceful dancer indeed. Once I had a chance to see Durga -in Nrityagram and it was a group performance, I can never forget in my life.
Utterly malicious and mischievous comment (the one devjoy has written).....Doubt whether reputed dancer like Nandini requires such a 'nasty ' supporter...don't think such comments would embellish her.....
This composition was originally composed for her . Other dancers like Debamitra and many others should watch Nandini every time to get an idea how to dance with actual beauty in tecnique and performance level .
i think debamitra has danced beautifully, and instead of her taking examples from other dancers, she should be set as an example for other emerging dancers.
Very inspiring and powerful performance! Keep up the good work.

Even though I enjoy your dancing for the most part, in here, your expression is missing. Doesn't do the meaning of this dance proper justice.
