Actually "akwa" is just a bad way to spell "aqua", which means the same thing in English. "Kwak" is the sound a duck makes in French. "Kwak" isn't a diminutive, just an onomatopea. (I'm from Québec and I speak French so I know what I'm talking about)

But seriously, those names are really strange, I grew up watching the Québec version of Pokémon, which was in French but with the English names. So it's still a big surprise to me. LOL

They only change the name for french of france not for french Quebec. They keep the original english name.
