  • he died a long time ago as did the lady who played Mrs Bridges.

  • First saw him in Tight Little Island (Whisky Galore); have been fond of him ever since. Couldn't figure out why heroine in Town Called Alice chose Brian whatsit over Gordon!

  • what year did he die?

  • @elizebethjames

Gordon Jackson died on January, 15th in 1990

  • I love Gordon Jackson too, he was good at playing the gentle but firm scotsman. I first saw him as Macdonald in The Great Escape and then in The Iprcress File before finally discovering he got a lead in The Professionslas, havent seen Upstairs Downstairs

  • Great actor, loved the proffesionals when i was a little boy and was the one adult programme my mum would allow me to watch as a kid as it was my fav show.

  • I just discovered this wonderful actor from .....watching episodes of Upstairs,Downstairs....

  • Thanks for the upload!,

  • @RTWUROTTS

    You're more than welcome!

  • Remember him in Mutiny on the Bounty.

  • Wow, a great piece of tv history. Thankyou.

  • Great actor.

  • Thanks for sharing this clip! Gordon Jackson - one of the best.

  • Gordon Jackson was a hit with my dad. If anyone asked him who his favourite Professional was, he'd say "Cowley", and he'd have the name out there before you even finished the question.

Of course, being of shallow tastes then, I had no idea what he was talking about until I watched some of Jackson's earlier work. Brilliant actor, and it is my loss that I never saw him onstage. His roles in The Great Escape and Those Magnificent Men are my favourites.

Mr. Jackson, you are greatly missed, sir.

  • Cheers for this. Nice to see a short tribute to the great man, especially from Martin.

  • @Banner1979

    You're very welcome!

  • @angelfish45 Cool. I'm sure News At Ten paid a slightly longer tribute to Gordon, they must have even showed a Pros clip.

  • Oh I still got a bit sad although it's so many years... what a wonderful actor he was... one of those very few celebrities I would have loved to meet. Thank you angelfish!

  • @finnhere2

    You're more than welcome!

Oh, yes, I would have loved to meet Gordon Jackson as well.

  • Thank you for the lovely vid. GJ was a wonderful man. As MS says: well-loved and well-respected. He set a wonderful example for the younger ones.

  • @Lindafiddles

    You're more than welcome!

  • Thank you angelfish! Don't often see so many interviews/docs about the great man compared to Shaw & Collins so this is quite interesting :)

  • @CI5AgentSweeps

    Can't forget the CI5 boss! ;-) You're welcome, Sweeps!
