@Keeper1st If I'm not mistaken that looks like the Ice Cream Shop in Sutter Creek. I went there on vacation a few years ago and had a great time. Does Tom still play there? I love the way he plays!
@EricJDuarte Yes, Tom plays there one night every odd-numbered month except November, plus of course during the Sutter Creek Ragtime Festival in August.
I never knew this much about the Tetris theme! Could you make a hi-def recording of this possibly? You DO realize that you can easily sell his interpretations of game music on iTunes? His twist is just so unique and incredible!
Omg he improvised that? I thought that whole song was shoved into that little sheet. I was thinking the whole video... 'How can this song fit on there? What?' I have no music experience whatsoever. Amazing, I loved it.
Could you ask him how many years of practice (and how much he practiced per day) to achieve the status of being able to sightread so easily? I would very much appreciate it.
@210Bubbagump I do have videos of him playing nice Steinways and Yamahas. Unfortunately these meetings take place in the ice cream parlor where that nearly 90-year-old piano gets a pounding on a daily basis, so it's a little the worse for wear.
@Keeper1st Honestly, the worn tone of this piano makes it sound all the more awesome. I can almost see the swirling smoke of an old-timey saloon in the old west. :-) Love this guy's work. He's really an amazing talent!
I can forgive you the fact that the game is from 84 and not the 90's because the music is so amazing. I'd love a high quality version of this minus the laughing and adding the missing low note as the default theme for tetris over the original theme any day.
It was a regular Korobushka. Then it was a Waltz, now he turned into a friggin ragtime, then some other genres that i dont even know. Someone list what i missed?
This man might be the greatest pianist I've ever seen. Definitely one of them at least. If you're thinking of trying another Russian folk song, I highly recommend the song Katyusha.
Wow that is awesome! I sometimes run out of keyboard in high notes because our bluthner piano's highest key is A and I usually play my digital piano which has standard high C.
I love it, and can't stop listening! You might need to slap the word Tetris in the title or tags to spread the word a little more. Great stuff, the Super Mario World ending theme rocks too!
Tom is the most remarkable and likeable rag time pianist I have heard in years. Of course there are many other out there that play alongside Tom and they are all brilliant. NOw if my memory serves me right this is a varaition on the Russian Song called Troika that Ivan Rebroff made famous
In Russia we haven't got origial tetris, cause thomething we could play it on cost very much ad now we dont use original content, couse can get it free)

@tertiumsquid As a matter of fact, from this same session, I also have a video of Tom sight-reading The Muppet Show theme...

@210Bubbagump In all honesty it sounds better for ragtime to have the piano sounding worn.
Gives it a warm fun feeling.

I bet if you said that this is Tetris rather then Коробушка, you would have so much more views

If there's one thing I never get tired of, it's how he never just ends a song. It makes for the funniest song endings I've ever heard.

Very cool! It sounded a bit like Rachmaninoff there for a second. I'm going to once again plug the idea of tom playing the Third Man theme.
