  • Never was and never will be anyone like Rose - sure do miss her. Thanks for posting this it is from around the time that I saw her often - what a great lady. Maddox Bros & Rose were the real roots of Rock & Roll - if you listen to "Step it up & Go" those are R&R licks and that was 3 years before Ike Turner & Jackie Brenston did Rocket 88, Maddox Bros & Rose should be the R&R Hall of Fame as the inventors.

    NAB :-)

  • cool stuff - one of the most interesting country bands, but apparently not loved by the country establishment, so no grand ole' opry.

  • does anyone know about her singing the song Me and Bobbie McGee?

  • Markie Sanders is playing bass.

  • That steel guitar player seems kinda confused.

  • great:)

  • love this lady , what a voice , we owe much to these ladies who came way before their time...true pioneer queens

  • THANKS for posting this delightful gem!

I'm too young to remember Rose & the Maddox family, but my mom (an Okie gal who moved to Calif as a child in the late 30's) has told me how hugely popular they were here back in the 40's & 50's. How sad that she's no longer with us. What an electric performer! I hope you & yours have a VERY happy holiday season!

  • Rose Maddox is the absolute coolest. Such great attitude.

  • Looks like Mayne Smith on steel & Paul Anastasio on fiddle, right? Anybody know the guitar player?

  • cool

  • rose maddox is my great great aunt thank you for posting this video it means alot to my family

  • It probably means something to a million or more Marines also. Been forty years since I drank a beer there and still havent forgotten the place!!! Nor Rose!!!

  • thats one hell of a lady right there!

  • That lady just about started it all !

  • I used to go see her at the Palomino and the Blue Saloon on Lankershim in North Hollywood in the 1990s. I think she really loved seeing all us young cowpunks/rockabilliy/c-w kids cheering her on. Her band was tight and she still put on a great show.

  • Rose was one of the best. I used to go see her and her brothers in the early 50s when they appeared at a honky tonk in Amarillo on several occasions.

  • You're really lucky to have seen Rose performing with her brothers in the early 50s,i've just seen her one time in Hemsby in 89 and i'll always remember. She's still the queen!

  • She sure was one of the best. When I was in the Army at Fort Orr, Calif. in 1962 I went to see her in San Jose. She could not make it for three weeks in a row. But I kept asking when she would get there before I shipped out. But before I could see her I was shipped out. They told me that she dedicated the whole show to me.

    I loved her a lot.

  • They put on quite a show when I saw them. Just kept things moving and the comedy was as good as the music.

  • Wow! Fantastic video***** Thank you for posting.

  • Rose was great! I sure do miss her.

  • one of the greatest. maybe better than Hank's version.

  • She does it justice and was an amazing singer but no one can out do Hank Williams on his own songs

  • have you heard the recording she made of this in the fifties? I'd take it over Hank's, personally.

  • Rose was a friend of my dad and mom. I grew up listening to her. I will always cherish when they cam to our house after a gig at the local dance hall.

  • Bravo to you for posting this rare clip of the incomparable Rose!

  • YOU GO GIRL!!! BOBBY DURHAM

  • a legend top of the class !!

  • Rose was an inspiration to a legion of country female vocalists... including the legendary Queen of rockabilly, Wanda Jackson.

  • Rose could sure cut a rug. Need this today. Thanks

  • She came from an era when they really had good female country vocalists!!! Rose Maddox and the Maddox Brothers are long overdue for the Hall of Fame!! We'll always miss Rose and the other greats from that era.

  • Hello there!
