Forgive me for forgetting to thank you for posting the original version of this, u know it was a senior moment, but many thanks, brightened my day, it's cloudy and cool in Cali. today.
One of my top ten favorite songs of my life, loved it when I bought it n college in 67, now that I am 63,still loving it. Just plain magic, never fails to transport me to a place of love, ecstacy and peace. Cold piece of work, this song.
This is where rapper Diamond D got his hip hop sample from his track "Sally got a one track mind". I loved that rap. I had his album long time ago. My elders had this record and actual song Diamond D sampled from too. Talk about my two for the price of one. LOL To have the original sample and rap version beat. Amazing!
Yes. it's time for Rick Stevens to come back to Oakland.......he has learned his lesson and it's time to give him time to spend before he passes on....Free Rick Stevens!!
@acr08807 Give him a chance to still show all of us on Youtube he still has the same chops that he had when he performed on this song like he did back in the day....
Rick Steven was one of my inmate aids at a local prisons. He was one of the best. If there is any man that deserves his freedom it's Rick Stevens. I was hoping that he was releasest before I retired. in 2008. He didn't really seem to be in great health. He has spent a lot of years helping inmates that can't help themselves. In a mental health unit like where I worked men like Rick was invaluable in making sure other inmate were cared for properly and with dignity and respectRick needs to go home

Nothing and absolutely nothing stands in the way of the 70's when it comes to music in general...have it your way but i wouldn't trade this genre for anything....i'm just so glad to have been a witness to it and the glory that was....
My mom showed me this jam too I use to play it for some chicks to get em in the mood and they would be like what the Hell is this I would just ignore them and keep listening
Still one of the baddest, most soulful ballards around, full of jazz, r and b and blues and originality out the box! Thank you for posting one of my all time favorite tunes. Many blessings for the joy!
Now THIS IS SOUL.....my friends.... If you weren't sure what soul was or is....this is it my friend--- this touches way down deep, to the soul. Love it!!! It also happens to be a personal fav from T.O.P. -and they've got so many cool jams.....
Hey, thanks so much Sylvette for the beautiful vid and for posting the original version, was hoping someone would.
@sylvette323b I second that....thanks for posting. I'll never forget the first time I heard this song.....I was at the school dance in 8th grade watching my friends older brother play the flute and he killed it. Back in the day when live bands played for school dances. I think the band was called Eastwind a mixture of Asian & Black brothers.
I know most fans dug on Lenny Williams, but I always thought Rick Stevens was the best. This and "You're Still a Young Man", were the smoothest ballads TOP put out.
the opening salvo of my college life...the music that gave color to a young man's dreams and realities...c",)...love those memories back then...and still do....<3
CLASSIC Tower of Power! I actually heard it on the radio last night and almost ran off of the road trying to blast the radio in the car! Love this jam!
Look at this.....though I got a copy of this album, it's still nice to see it here......and proud to say I still got my LP purchased in '72...... thank you Sylvette for posting........

I was under -age but i used to sneak in to the Warehouse in San Jose CA and I watched and danced and grooved to this band and still grooving to these guys today.
I was 17 years old in 1971 when this song came out. I was working in a restaurant till 7 pm the night they were scheduled to perform and I drove 35 miles to see them perform after work, just to hear them play this song. It was worth the $2.00 my friend and I paid to get in the Stockton Fairgrounds that night to hear them play this song and other songs as well. My friend thought I was a little crazy. ... I just laughed.
i'm 24 from san jose ca, my dad was a part of the whole low rider scene in the 70's, back then tower of power is what was blasting out of impalas and monte carlos. my dad never really talked much else to me but he showed me great music, t.o.p. being among many. this is one bad ass band from oakland, and we may never see another like it, the first and last of their kind!
ALRIGHT! I finally found my long lost love song of Tower of Power. Songs of our times really surpass the art and beauty of music with its beautiful lyrics that titillate the hearts of the younged ones.
RIGHTEOUS FUNK!!! FINALLY! THE VERSION, I'VE BEEN WAITING 2-HEAR ON U-TUBE, I CAN'T BELIEVE, HOW FOLKS MISSED THE GREATEST SONG OF ALL TIME!!! THIS JAM ,CAME OUT IN 1971, SON!!! RICK STEVENS ON LEAD VOCAB, GIVIN'-U-SOMETHANG-U-AIN'T NEVER HAD!!! PEACE&LOVE!!! CMF TRIBE!!!
Pure joy and ecstacy, the way the horn and flute meld, if u can"t feel love after hearing this, your heart is ice. The heat just soars off the instruments. Thank you for posting. Such a bad tune
