Don't get me wrong, Eric sounds great singing this, but its just not the same without Peter, this is Peter's song I think Kiss needs to leave it like that

They are titled The original Vs the Replacements: Ace Frehley Vs Tommy Thayer and the other is The original Vs the Replacements: Peter Criss Vs Eric Singer. It's very interesting to compare these. It shows they are copying the style but it also shows they kick ass as well and they do mix in their own style. Check em out.
I have been a hard core kiss fan since 1978. I agree that the real kiss will always be the original band. When this lineup came about with make up that included Peter's and Ace's I thought it was a rip-off and it is true that kiss has became their own tribute band but this aside this version of the band kicks ass maybe the best since the original. True that Singer and Thayer are copying Peter and Ace's style but they do a damn good job. Lets quit arguing about who is best and just enjoy.
i have no problem with eric singer, since he was already in the band (after the other eric died), the one i hate is Thayer. Besides being an Ace copycat he sucks bigtime.

This song was written by Peter Criss and Stan Penridge (rest in peace). Check out how Paul looks at Tommy during the instrumental break. He's guiding him along like he doesn't know how to play the song. Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer are 3rd rate peons.
@jfrey1 I'm glad you know what is going through Paul Stanleys mind as he plays on stage. Tommy is a better guitarist than ace. He taught ace how to play this version when they did Kiss unplugged. Tommy didn't write the stuff but if you saw kiss recently I dont know how you can tell us that tommy and peter are worse. Eric does better fills than peter and has better rythm. And tommy does just fine on the solo's while adding in extra notes.
My wife hadn't seen KISS. She isn't a BIG fan, but has her Alive and Alive II stuff. She couldn't tell the difference between Ace/Tommy or Peter/Eric, which is my point. Steve Morse in Deep Purple plays his style and doesn't wear a top hat. Kirk hamett doesn't play or dress like Mustaine. Brian doesn't imitate Bon. Life goes on. KISS went backwards, which is really sad. It's just the same old same old now.

@MRTTMT my problem with Tommy and Eric was the fact that they had no original stuff to establish their identity within those characters, it was only a plug and play situation. I understand why that pissed so many people off. But now that we have Sonic Boom, and two of the best tracks on that cd are Tommy and Eric's, I've eased up on them substantially. But Tommy is still the Spaceman, not Space Ace, even if Tommy had to reteach Ace his own solos from the 70's during the reunion tour

Why do some KISS fans get so angry over Eric or Tommy singing Ace and Peter's songs? So, why aren't fans angry over Tommy playing guitar parts recorded by Bruce (God Gave Rock n Roll To You), or Eric Singer playing Eric Carr's parts (Lick it Up, I Love it Loud, Crazy Nights). Eric Carr sang Black Diamond - why doesn't anyone give Eric Carr shit about that?

@MRTTMT good kisstory A+. And they already had some of thier iconic songs written in one form or the other. Perhaps not down to the final lead tracks but complete songs before ACE or Criss, which made up a good portion of the debut album
@EricCarr5091 I think they both deserve it...I mean, just like Shock Me and Beth was for Peter and Ace, All for the Glory and When Lightning Strikes should be for Tommy and Eric. Like I said, tho, at least they busted this one out Unplugged-style, and so for that, this is pretty cool. But as far as the Tommy and Eric jam session they're doing now, that's fuckin' badass!!! They need to do shit like that more often, more importantly, when I go see 'em later in August!
They can't do this in America. European fans are FAR LESS fickle than American ones. Good news is...despite the fact that this is absolutely tasteless and needless, KISS is proving that they can survive and thrive without the old dopers in the band. For that, I applaud what is otherwise not the best move they've ever made. Peter's an idiot and Ace loves only Ace. So why not move on?

I'll be seeing them AGAIN twice this August, saw twice last October and saw ACE this spring. They are currently puttin' on one of the best shows I ever saw..... and ACE is performing mostly KISS songs in concert. Many he didn't write, I have no problem with that either

I realize that Gene & Paul own everything under the sun with regard to KISS. They can do and play whatever they want. I get that. But that was truly one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. It's been stated previously by numerous posts, but the band is beyond a joke now...has been for years. Just glad I'm old enough to have experienced the real magic of KISS in the 70s.
A bootleg exists of the song from 1971, but the song's title was "Beck", after fellow band member Mike Brand's wife, Becky, who would call often during practices to ask Mike when he was coming home.The song was said to be a tribute to Criss' wife Lydia Di Leonardo;who missed him while on the road with KISS , but the song actually originated years earlier.

Ace has his drummer singing Love her alll I Can(or another Paul song)But in your defence of Peter,why has Ace NEVER used Peter as his drummer??Both of them in the same band would be great.BUT both times Peter was DISMISSED from KISS, Ace stayed .He could have quickly spoke up in 2000 when Peter throwed his tantrum about money.But he went to Japan with Singer as the drummer.

Shock Me is the defining Ace song, Beth is the defining Peter song, all I'm saying is let them have something to call their own and leave it be, and get thousands more at concerts and buying cds, cause I'm not the only one not doing that because of the "Shock Me" and now "Beth" conflict. After about 5-10 secs.of "oh know they didn't"type of shock,the crowd went wild.And as a fan that would like to hear anything and everything played live(even The Elder),I know there's probably a sort "take this"attitude from Simmons.but remember during the Farewell Pete and his lawyer held out thinking they COULD NOT go Japan without him.They did.

What I don't understand is why can't Tommy and Eric sing their OWN songs? I mean, I got it during the Alive 35 tour, I totally get that. But since Sonic Boom's release, and their proclamation of a new setlist for the tour, they haven't let Tommy and Eric do their songs.

On a plus side though, at least the band's backing him Unplugged-style! The Kiss Unplugged version of Beth was the only version of that song I could really stomach...the acoustic vibe captures the essence of the song way better.

Am I the only one who thinks Tommy and Eric are amazing musicians who actually fits in the band? Ya'll who're complaining should get used to this, because this is how it is and will be. There'll never be KISS with Ace or Peter again. Just accept that. Once and for all.
@THISISEMELIE exactly mate. and what most people dont realise is that the original members (ace especially) are very good freinds with thier successors and are happy for them to take thier place. You're completely right.What most people don't know is that before Eric Carr's death a reunion of the Carr ,Gene, Paul & Ace line up in the works.Peter was always threatening to quit as far back as 75.(but where did he go)He also did this on the farewell tour thinking they could not go Japan without him.He complained ,griped and threatened during the whole 2003 tour.
@MRTTMT have you noticed ? With Pete KISS and it's members are only cool when he's involved.I used to like him better before youtube. All the guy does is trash KISS which is his life long meal ticket. The simple fact seems to be that Gene can't let Ace or Peter have just a little piece of what they helped create. Beth wouldn't have been a hit had it not been on a Kiss album. Kiss would not exist as we knew it had it not been for Peter and Ace.

KISS' Love Gun was my 1st album. I saw KISS live in L.A. with all the original members on the 1979 Dynasty Tour & the 1996 Reunion Tour. I would never pay to see them with the replacement members. BUT the show must go on... KISS has always been Gene & Paul's band. Peter quit in 1981 and Ace quit in 1982. Peter Criss didn't even play on most KISS albums and Tommy taught Ace his old parts for the reunion tour! Gene & Paul kept the band together! It's their band & they can do whatever they want to!

I know that some people are going to disagree with me that Thayer and Singer are impersonating Peter and Ace but check out the videos by NecramoniumKISSvideo
They are titled The original Vs the Replacements: Ace Frehley Vs Tommy Thayer and the other is The original Vs the Replacements: Peter Criss Vs Eric Singer. It's very interesting to compare these. It shows they are copying the style but it also shows they kick ass as well and they do mix in their own style. Check em out.

I have been a hard core kiss fan since 1978. I agree that the real kiss will always be the original band. When this lineup came about with make up that included Peter's and Ace's I thought it was a rip-off and it is true that kiss has became their own tribute band but this aside this version of the band kicks ass maybe the best since the original. True that Singer and Thayer are copying Peter and Ace's style but they do a damn good job. Lets quit arguing about who is best and just enjoy.

This song was written by Peter Criss and Stan Penridge (rest in peace). Check out how Paul looks at Tommy during the instrumental break. He's guiding him along like he doesn't know how to play the song. Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer are 3rd rate peons.

@jfrey1 I'm glad you know what is going through Paul Stanleys mind as he plays on stage. Tommy is a better guitarist than ace. He taught ace how to play this version when they did Kiss unplugged. Tommy didn't write the stuff but if you saw kiss recently I dont know how you can tell us that tommy and peter are worse. Eric does better fills than peter and has better rythm. And tommy does just fine on the solo's while adding in extra notes.

My wife hadn't seen KISS. She isn't a BIG fan, but has her Alive and Alive II stuff. She couldn't tell the difference between Ace/Tommy or Peter/Eric, which is my point. Steve Morse in Deep Purple plays his style and doesn't wear a top hat. Kirk hamett doesn't play or dress like Mustaine. Brian doesn't imitate Bon. Life goes on. KISS went backwards, which is really sad. It's just the same old same old now.

@MRTTMT my problem with Tommy and Eric was the fact that they had no original stuff to establish their identity within those characters, it was only a plug and play situation. I understand why that pissed so many people off. But now that we have Sonic Boom, and two of the best tracks on that cd are Tommy and Eric's, I've eased up on them substantially. But Tommy is still the Spaceman, not Space Ace, even if Tommy had to reteach Ace his own solos from the 70's during the reunion tour

Why do some KISS fans get so angry over Eric or Tommy singing Ace and Peter's songs? So, why aren't fans angry over Tommy playing guitar parts recorded by Bruce (God Gave Rock n Roll To You), or Eric Singer playing Eric Carr's parts (Lick it Up, I Love it Loud, Crazy Nights). Eric Carr sang Black Diamond - why doesn't anyone give Eric Carr shit about that?
Those are KISS songs, not Ace's or Peter's solo tunes. They own the rights. Ace left twice, Peter 3 times. They had their chances.

I'll be seeing them AGAIN twice this August, saw twice last October and saw ACE this spring. They are currently puttin' on one of the best shows I ever saw..... and ACE is performing mostly KISS songs in concert. Many he didn't write, I have no problem with that either

I realize that Gene & Paul own everything under the sun with regard to KISS. They can do and play whatever they want. I get that. But that was truly one of the most pathetic things I've ever seen. It's been stated previously by numerous posts, but the band is beyond a joke now...has been for years. Just glad I'm old enough to have experienced the real magic of KISS in the 70s.

A bootleg exists of the song from 1971, but the song's title was "Beck", after fellow band member Mike Brand's wife, Becky, who would call often during practices to ask Mike when he was coming home.The song was said to be a tribute to Criss' wife Lydia Di Leonardo;who missed him while on the road with KISS , but the song actually originated years earlier.

But then came "Shock Me"...copying Ace's solo....shooting rockets....thats where it went too far....now Beth....what next, change Eric and Tommy's names legally to Ace Frehley and Peter Criss....it's getting beyond a joke.

@Rokket I don't see you complaing about the Gene and Paul songs that Ace and Peter have always played in concert. Ace has his drummer singing Love her alll I Can(or another Paul song)But in your defence of Peter,why has Ace NEVER used Peter as his drummer??Both of them in the same band would be great.BUT both times Peter was DISMISSED from KISS, Ace stayed .He could have quickly spoke up in 2000 when Peter throwed his tantrum about money.But he went to Japan with Singer as the drummer.

@MRTTMT .....Ace wrote a lot of songs that Kiss are still playing, and I'm fine with that, Peter sang Black Diamond, although he didn't write it, they play it, and i'm fine with that. Shock Me is the defining Ace song, Beth is the defining Peter song, all I'm saying is let them have something to call their own and leave it be, and get thousands more at concerts and buying cds, cause I'm not the only one not doing that because of the "Shock Me" and now "Beth" conflict. Talk about business moves!

@Rokket that's your opinion and right-nothing wrong with that.But how many are buying the instant live cd's with Beth and Shock Me on them?I know each of those songs are each guys signature songs.I don't know about Ace's copyrights,but Peter has his Beth rights so he will get paid and assume Ace will.Like i said to another poster,had they had the stool,roses and backing tape(never liked it) and copped Pete's whole performance that would have been wrong.But playing a song from a KISS lp is not.

@Rokket I could accept the fact that we have an Ace and Peter clone. It's a business move----for the record you're right about this- a move that means the difference between Kiss playing halls 10000 seats(closer to 6000) and under with out make up and 10000 and above with..I've said it before,check out cover of KISS MY ASS cd-no ACE makeup,In 94 he still owned his rights.Every song on KISS lp is fair game live.If they ever play Rock Soldiers,I'll raise hell with u.

@MRTTMT .......look, we are all passionate about Kiss, old or/and new, I am or I wouldn't be standing up for what I believe in, to quote classic Paul Stanley, I wish the new Kiss all the success in the world, but they'll achieve it without me and thousands like me. Perhaps Gene should look at it like this, Kiss may well have had their first No.1 album in their history if the thousands like me had purchased the new album, and then even the R&R Hall of Fame would have had to sit up and take notice

@Rokket I can't speak for the Beth performances,but I was there the 1st night they played ShockMe. After about 5-10 secs.of "oh know they didn't"type of shock,the crowd went wild.And as a fan that would like to hear anything and everything played live(even The Elder),I know there's probably a sort "take this"attitude from Simmons.but remember during the Farewell Pete and his lawyer held out thinking they COULD NOT go Japan without him.They did.

@EricCarr5091 remove animal(worst song on sonic boom)- cold gin-let me go rock n roll- shout it out loud and firehoue and add hot and cold - never enough- all for the glory- lightning strikes and fits like a glove - but we all know crazy nights and god gave rock will be the ones dropped and replaced-they will continue to support sonis boom to boost sales so that's where the added songs will come from.

What I don't understand is why can't Tommy and Eric sing their OWN songs? I mean, I got it during the Alive 35 tour, I totally get that. But since Sonic Boom's release, and their proclamation of a new setlist for the tour, they haven't let Tommy and Eric do their songs.
I get it...Kiss is an institution, bigger than the members and all, but why bother with pissing off half of Kiss' fanbase when they could play their own songs that gave them their own identity within the band..btw Kiss rules

@EricCarr5091 you know I've said many times in the originals that ACE was my fav as a kid . But when Pete then ACE stopped showing up in the studio. KISS was becoming like "The Monkees" faces put to some studio guys work .

@KISSARMYHQ Yes back in 95 when they were both touring bars they sold the rights of the make up back to Gene.Ace usually takes the high road,but Peter has to complain in every interview.But when u think of it? No one4 wants to interview him about his new music /tour.so KISS is his meal ticket.

@MRTTMT Eric Singer has been qouted as saying in a interview, that it was Pete's management that was pushing the hardest for the reunion after the unplugged sessions . I have a video posted "Criss drum solo '96" and it's so unbelievably poor.
Back in the early to mid 70's or so Criss was a very good drummer...... to me it's diservice to the fans to have him credited on a album he doesn't even really play on. At least with catman II or the beast as I call him (Singer) we know whom we're gettin'.

Love it and Hate it, here's why:
obviously, it's not Peter, and either way, in my opinion, Beth is not a very good Kiss song I don't think....
On a plus side though, at least the band's backing him Unplugged-style! The Kiss Unplugged version of Beth was the only version of that song I could really stomach...the acoustic vibe captures the essence of the song way better.
All in all, THIS performance? eh...it was okay :)

Real fans should accept new band members. It's such a shame how some of you complains over the whole Ace and Peter situation. Am I the only one who thinks Tommy and Eric are amazing musicians who actually fits in the band? Ya'll who're complaining should get used to this, because this is how it is and will be. There'll never be KISS with Ace or Peter again. Just accept that. Once and for all.

@THISISEMELIE exactly mate. and what most people dont realise is that the original members (ace especially) are very good freinds with thier successors and are happy for them to take thier place. Ace especially didnt really want to continue with them, but remains freinds and goes for the odd pint with tommy when neither of them are touring. people need to stop moaning.

You're completely right.What most people don't know is that before Eric Carr's death a reunion of the Carr ,Gene, Paul & Ace line up in the works.Peter was always threatening to quit as far back as 75.(but where did he go)He also did this on the farewell tour thinking they could not go Japan without him.He complained ,griped and threatened during the whole 2003 tour.

@MRTTMT have you noticed ? With Pete KISS and it's members are only cool when he's involved.I used to like him better before youtube. All the guy does is trash KISS which is his life long meal ticket. I say Stanley & Simmons at this point can do what they want with the band and the characters......... his self importance is over rated. He had his day, but those days are long gone.....

@KISSARMYHQ ....so if you wrote a song of your own, it turned out to be the biggest hit your band had ever had, designed your character and make-up etc....and then when you left the band they dressed someone up like you and then had them sing the hit song you wrote, you'd be fine with all that??? no you wouldn't.

@Rokket you can not sell your car -TAKE THE MONEY-and then complain about someone else driving it around town.peter sold his makup in 95-he spent the money.he did not write the song on his own pendridge wrote the music, as it is a proven fact that peter could not write music.Not to mention the FACT that had the song not been on a KISS album it never would have been a hit.Once again more people hear HIS song in one night at a KISS concert than will hear it on his next bar/club tour.

@MRTTMT .I think a song, written about someone close to you is some what more personal than a car, thats a pretty shallow way of looking at it. The simple fact seems to be that Gene can't let Ace or Peter have just a little piece of what they helped create. Beth wouldn't have been a hit had it not been on a Kiss album. Kiss would not exist as we knew it had it not been for Peter and Ace.

@Rokket -3 wives ago -she put him out in 79 much the same time KISS set him down and for the same reasons,And to use Paul's words from 89 after Ace recorded and released Hide your Heart the same month Kiss release HITS"once a song is released anyone can record and play it".Both Peter and Ace have never played a show with without playing songs like Love Gun or Deuce(nothing wrong with that ).ACE did not write 2000 Man,Into the Night or New york Groove.ALLL SOMEONE ELSE"S SONGS.
