Let me tell u something, "Han Chinese", I am a white American and even I can see what's going on in China's Tibet and Xinjiang. First off, this is a racial issue, no if or but about that. If Uighurs were allowed to speak about the racism they are facing like Hans, there would be exploding number of sad stories. At the moment Hans are hearing their own side of the stories, and getting more angrier while forgetting that they have already silenced the Uighurs. 0112337, I am receiving different stories than yours. I heard Uighurs are treated very badly. Having badly treated by Hans, children crying to their parents "why we are not Hans?". The situation is really sad. Officially you cannot be head no matter how good you are, Hans simply don't trust you. Uighurs does not want special treatment, instead they want fair treatment, they should not be discriminated just because they could not speak proper Chinese in their own land. Uighurs speaking against Chinese are regarded as separatism, while Chinese speak against Uighurs are regarded public opinion. There should racism law that protect Uighurs as well. Hans are welcome in Xinjiang, but Hans shold also respect locals as well by giving equal opportunities.

0112337, I saw the video, it is indeed sad so many innocent Hans are killed in this way. These murderers should be punished. However, I don't think the peaceful protesters (students) should be punished just because they have protested. Only people who took part in violence should be punished. Also Hans who killed Uighurs should be punished in the same way, I don't think this will happen, do you? Just reminded you, also lots of Uighurs women and children are also killed, just not appeared in CCTV

Do you think CCTV coverage is objective? Do you remember what they were reporting during the Tiananmen massacare in 1989? With the information blackout, it is almost impossible for western media to reach out the protesters. Even so, have you seen the news from western media that Uighurs including women and children were killed. Have you ever try to find out what the story on the other side? This event is started with the Uighur student protesters but hijacked by the Uighur mobs.

As for Hans being punished, I can't really speak for that because I don't know. I have never been to Xinjiang so I don't know much about the legal system there.
The Han people know very little about the Uighurs. Maybe this was because there was very little interaction for thousands of years. Until recently, Hans were not even allowed to go there.
Similarly, I think Uighurs also don't know much about the Han. This mutual ignorance probably caused the lack of trust and perceived "racism".

But yeah, Hans need to be more open minded. You see, like Uighurs, the Hans are an ancient people with traditions that goes back for thousands and thousands of years. You have forgotten UK is not part of China. Of course you are expected to learn English in UK. However if you try to eliminate the English education in UK, try to discriminate English just because they cannot speak Chinese in UK, then I expect English would riot against Chinese too. When you immigrate to a country, you should respect the local people, their culture even after hundreds of years. For example, in UK, Chinese should respect the English culture, should not try to assimilate English even after when they are in power. Hans in Xinjiang could no behave like this 30 years ago. Now more than 90% of population in Urumqi is Hans, Hans pushed Uighurs into corners already. I only hope Hans can change, otherwise seems you would cliam UK also part of China

I have a few Uighur friends and I feel just as sorry for their ethnicities' deaths as Han deaths. In the end, Hans and Uighurs are like brothers, both living in the same country.

You are mistaking my analogy about the U.K.. The point I was trying to get at is if you want to work in another ethnic group's company you have to speak their language. This is the norm around the world.
As far as I know there is nothing stopping Uighurs from opening their own shops to compete with the Hans in Xinjiang. Since they are the locals, and they have all the special benefits given by the government, why can't they compete?
Keep in mind the governor of Xinjiang is Uighur.

Racism, Ignorance are not the real issue here, the problem is the whispering power of the Han people. All of these bloodsheds are caused by a fake message posted by a Han. Do you remember that a Han people impersonating a Japanese caused a huge demonstration. The lucky Japanese in China have their own country to escape. Poor Uighurs do not have a place to escape, and totally isolated with no communication at all. I can only speculate what is happening in Urumqi, which is really scary.

I heard my Han Chinese friend in Xinjiang say that the locals there (the Uighurs) are very conservative and unfriendly towards the Han. Three series of events are linked with each other:

I am amazed that you are still saying "perhaps" after watching the video. The fact is that Uighurs were killed indeed not "perhaps". You speculated there must be some reason, the reason is also official: A chinese posted a fake message claiming Uighurs raped Chinese girls, and police officially claimed the message is fake! Of course it is horrendous innocent Hans in Urumqi were killed because of this. It is also horrendous Han mobs killed innocent Uighurs later on.
