  • COOL !

  • I love listening to Brenda, usually - but this song?? A classic from Jeanette McDonald ruined with the jazzed up pace. Phooey what a pity.

  • Bobby Darin in drag?

  • Brenda Lee and Bobby Darin were mutual competitors in the fifties and sixties. One can hear the Bobby Darin influence in expression and pace. Both composers competed for decades for other bands and singers.

  • you must remember Roy Orbinson played top billing in England and the Beatle played in his concert , Roy was a big hit in England more so than in the USA..early 1960's

  • GOD BLESSES EVERYONE who listen that music. That's so amazing!

  • @3mmaSu3tunes You can get a lot of dresses like that off Etsy.com

  • @lilleblomst84 really? thank you

  • I'd kill for that dress

  • She sounds like a "45 Yr" old "Peggy Lee".

My Lord, shes just a Kid Here.

    WOW!!!!

  • @3mmaSu3tunes Since no one answered, it's a dress to wear with lots of petticoats underneath. You might Google "petticoat dress" and see if that does it..

Man, never thought I'd be answering fashion questions!

  • @MrCallipygous ok sweet!! thank you! =D

  • love brenda lee!

  • when women were ladies, not pigs.

  • I heard that she is the only artist to have headlined a concert with the Beatles. I have no doubt it's true- the amazing talent that she is!

  • @BTLfanIam The Beatles did open for Brenda. Lennon said she was the greatest Rock n' Roll voice he ever heard. She was not, however, the "only artist" to headline. The Beatles opened for many other acts early in their career. See my video and hear Brenda herself tell the story. Search for "Brenda, Broomstick and The Beatles".

  • @BTLfanIam The Beatles also opened for Roy Orbison when he did a few tours in Europe in the early '60's.

  • I have to agree with Durgaaa If she were wearing a short aline skirt or dress and something showing cleavage that would go with the musie which is very jazzy and sexy..along with her style and even her gestures while singing. It's very strange with that dress.

  • @louann5840 When Brenda goes to that southern honey drawl "I'm not gonna tell you, but one more time..." , that guy is comin' home no matter what she wearing!

  • @louann5840 The ? is? Between 1959 and 1963, the crinnolyn was going out of style. This dress was with the x. U remind me of Bobby Darin, Elvis and Frank Sinatra. They wanted gal with cleavage. Frank S asked Brenda Lee to go accept an award from President Regan 4 his involvement with education. Brenda went under an alias. Frank was so angry that she wore a black & white 2 piece suit (which went with education). He wanted cleavage like Marilyn Monroe. It's all brainwashing

  • Perfect !!!

    Dick

  • is it me, or does she sometimes seem like she is a bit off beat, its not really syncopation. . its kind of wierd, but it may be me

  • Sheer Bliss,nothing tops Brenda

  • I <3 her voice and the 60's

  • Just think Brenda was only 18 on this video and already at her peak. What a giant talent.

  • You can never beat oure talent!!! Gorgeous and timeless.

  • Little Brenda - great voice! Wonderful singer.

  • Really like this opportunity to see Brenda jazz up this classic -- big improvement over her '61 LP version. An earlier poster asked what show this '63 clip is from, and I join in wondering. The fine big band deserves full credit.

  • @blucru88 Yes they do. It's Les Brown and his Band of Renown. They, of course, played for a certain ski-nosed comedian. That should identify the show. This interpretation is not the romantic version expected by some of the early comments on the thread. The request here is more of, shall we say, a hedonistic nature. Shame on you Brenda!

  • She's sounds like eartha Kitt when she sing this song.

  • what show is this from and what year?

  • This is MARVELOUS! Great sound and video quality! Great performance, too, of course! Thanks for posting!

  • 55-65 was golden they of teenage pop music TODAY JUST RUBBISH

  • ...not only did Brenda have a big talent...she also has a high IQ..!

  • A consummate performer

  • Love those crinolines! They always added a feminine touch to women's apparel throughout most of the 1950s and even well into the early 60s. I always enjoyed Brenda's ballads.

  • That DRESS! It makes her look 8 years old! I want ta hear her sing Break It To Me Gently .....live! But she's sure jazzy here! Complete incongruity with the dress.

  • @durgaaa A live performance of "Break It" is difficult to find. She did it on Bandstand, but it was, of course, a lip-synch and all those shows are presumably lost. There exists a promotional clip of it, but I have never been able to find the whole thing. For fun, see her amaze Dolly Parton and Glen Campbell in one of my videos with one note on "Break It".

  • @MrCallipygous --Well, thanks for all you did so far. But isn't it sad that the archivists and producers of film back then did not see far enough ahead to preserve for posterity, some of the most inspirational things done? Lip sync will never equal live, will it? I will search for your video of Dolly and Glen. Thanks again!

  • @durgaaa I think she looks beautiful in that dress.

  • ohhhhhhh my god. what a rude thing to do to a beautiful, haunting song!

  • i kinda agree...although i gotta admit that i have like 10 different jazzed up versions of this song...as well as other thumper & the other kid songs covered by other artists...

  • I did enjoy listening for comparison`s sake. As i stated, I do like Brenda, but I`m a huge operetta fan and I miss the tender romance of the original Romberg/Hammerstein composition. Lorraine

  • I like Brenda Lee, but I dislike this uptempo pop arrangement .I.prefer the lilting, lush, soaring, operetta melody composed by Sigmond Romberg for the original broadway production of NEW MOON and the Herbert Stothart arrangement used in the 1940 MGM film adaptation. Romberg`s music and Oscar Hammerstein`s poetic, poignant lyrics were perfectly matched. The song loses much of it`s sweet sentiment with the uptempo rendition. Thanks for sharing with Us. Lorraine
