I think I have oversupply, even though at first she cluster-fed so much I was convinced I didn't have enough. I was identified because she was really colicky, plus a few other symptoms, that there was a foremilk/hindmilk imbalance (from me timing the feedings and tringy to get her to take both breasts each feed--too much foremilk and lactose, and not enough hindmilk, and it ferments in her tummy and causes awful pains). The problem only lasts a few months, then I hope I can donate, too!!!
I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my 1st so I'm still getting educated on breast feeding, because it's something that i definitely plan on doing. But the way that you are describing it sounds a lot like how I'm going to be. I plan on only going up to a year with it. I often wonder why so many mother's go well over a year, almost to 2 years. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like that's so unnecessary for the baby at that point. I don't know if you feel the same.
@LovelyLady1090 if there is anything I've learned about breastfeeding (and motherhood in general for that matter) is that I really don't know how I'm going to feel til I'm there. I'm kind of the same way, I can't imagine myself wanting to continue nursing past 1 year, but at the same time, I never say never. nursing is 1 of the only things that get's my son to sleep and if it continues that way I probably won't take that from him until he is ready, but I also want my body back!
My son is 13 months old & I'm still nursing...I never thought I would make it this far. I think when you make it to 6 months, anything after 6 months is extremely difficult to stop nursing...at this point I think my son wouldn't want me to wean him so who knows when we'll stop. My son was hospitalized last week & I had to use the pump for the 1st time in months...well I was pumping like 12 ounces!! I am making enough milk for 2-3 kids, lol. So I feel ya! I should donate mine!
Good job mamma. We just started weaning (my son is 9 months and 4 weeks) because I got pregnant. I wanted to keep going but my doc preferred I stop they say the milk you produce is taking away from the baby your growing. I say go as long as you want. Our original plan was to go till 12 months, Formula is so expensive. And your right it does get much easier around 6 months.
My cousin breastfed he baby for a really long time (about 2 or 3 yrs) so I personally wouldn't recommending letting him choose. But who knows, it could be totally different for you!
Congrats! I hope breastfeeding continues to go well! I think it's so important for other women to hear about how breastfeeding gets easier-it's so hard in the beginning! I also over-produce and am currently decreasing my supply. My son is almost 11 months and we continue to nurse whenever I'm not at work.
@LisaJasonG it really does get SO much easier. I still over produce as well, but I'm not really even trying anymore so I think its just what my body naturally does- make more milk over night and since my son more often than not will sleep 4-8 hours, there will always be that extra milk he didn't eat over night. I love not being tied down to a pump all day though :) Congrats on continuing to nurse your little one :)
Just a warning about oversupply: It can also leads to the problem of foremilk/hindmilk imbalance which can cause digestion problems for the baby due to the fact that too much foremilk (watery milk) without enough hindmilk (more fat rich milk) is hard on the baby's system causing excessive gas, green poops, and even blood in the stools same in some cases. If there are no signs of fm/hm imbalance or overactive letdown issues then an oversupply is not a big issue though mastitis is a risk though.
@CharleenCC right, that's what I mentioned in this video...block feeding is so important if you are making too much milk! I'm lucky and for some reason have never had issues with clogged ducts, but you're right that's also something to look out for!
@JenNTim509 Thanks Jen!! No you're fine, I've have this camera for a month now (it used to be Parkerfur's) and I just figured out what format to record it in, and then save it in once I'm done editing, and also I figured out the aspect ration to get rid of the black bars that I always have around videos. Took forever to upload but I'm glad I finally figured it out! LOL

Way to go for donating milk! I think that is such a great idea when you have an oversupply or at least a lot stored up. Props to you!
