Stampede's need to show replays is worse than WWE's, holy shit I missed the end of the match because of it. Great match but the replay was fucking annoying.
Bar-none,one of the finest wrestling matches and displays of what sports entertainment used to be. Hats off to Tom Billington and Brett Hart. Thanks for the awesome match.
@lowblowproductions The last time i watched SGT. Slaughter was the WWF Heavyweight champ. Is this still the case? But seriously I'm the same. 80's- early 90's NWA/WCW and WWF is what i watch. Old matches but they're new to me as I'm only just discovering them.
I love pro wrestling like this.I remember being a kid and this kind of wrestling came on late at night in chicago.Matches that were on show like worldwide.Alex Wright vs whoever.Entrance was the flashy part(but not overdone) then the match was pure athleticism.Good days.
I always found this type of professional wrestling more interesting - no outrageous gimmicks, no jabronis, no beer bashing, no chairmen getting beat up, just two guys who kept their heads down and did their job, and quite well I might add. It's bullshit that guys that actually can wrestle are getting outshone by guys with death metal songs for themes.
The flying knee at 9:27 is amazing. If he didn't break Hart's nose then it's a miracle. I vividly remember the first time I saw it via Primetime Wrestling. Just an amazing match and that knee was one of the most memorable moments ever.
Man awsome shit Bret and Dynamite were awsome in the ring together WWE needs to put wrestling like this on their TV not the lame ass shit we get now. WWE needs a Dynamite Kid DVD with all his Stampede Shit on it. But the two best technical wrestlers ever
Brothers in law at that time, and two of the greatest technical wrestlers in history undoubtedly. Wish it was Jesse commentating with Gorilla Monsoon, greatest announcing duo ever!
They talk about the Wrestling Classic that was a tournament that Junkyard Dog (of all people) won. I do however remember that during the tournament Dynamite Kid beat Volkoff while he was singing the Soviet anthem. Drop kick fromthe top while he was singing. Oh & like steviebhoy7 I too could watch Dyno's snap suplex all day. I love the escape at 2:36
\well from what I read about that situation is that even though Jacques sucker punched him with brass knuckles Tommy still didn't go down & even Vince was impressed with that. I only wish that Dynamite Kid hadn't hurt his back. Great in the ring. Legit tough. & was apparently quite the shooter. On the other hand though if he hadn't hurt his back & was able to still compete he'd probably be dead from all the crap he put in himself.
I think todays matches go back and forth a lot plenty, but the wrestlers don't have nearly the quality in basic fundamentals and execution that these guys have
These guy's are way up there in a stratosphere of talent, ability and commitment that simply doesn't exist in Pro Wrestling today...........
................and I fear we'll be waiting a very long time before the likes of Dynamite and Brett take the Main Events again. Which is just plain wrong!
Now i remember why i can't watch the crap that passes for wrestling today. This was magic because you always guessed how much was scripted and how much was real. Today, you have a serious lack of pro wrestling talent, combined with the emergence of the UFC, and the end result is that you have a real fight vs a scripted fight, and the people have a choice. Back when, if the wrestlers were good enough, they always kept you guessing, AND it was incredibly entertaining.
In an interview Bret Hart said he hadn't even been in wrestling for a year yet when he was in Stampede wrestling. Not bad for a rookie. This match itself beats any current WWE main event.
lol I'd like to see Hogan or Ric Flair's first few matches. Must be sad.
it's amazing,,, watch this match, then turn on raw or smackdown. there's almost no way to compare it. these are 2 of the finest technical wrestlers in the history of the sport. as for the current "product".... SCREW SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT!!! I WANT PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING
your right there even bret himself said dynamite kid was the greatest pound for pound wrestler of all time but to me there both awesome excellent match
These two were are and still the best wrestlers ever. Case close, I don't care what anyone says. I also miss that arena they are performing in. I have alot of wrestling memories from the Capital Centre, or The USAir Arena in later years. Wrestling is not the same as it was in those days.
My knowledge of wrestling anno 2008 is limited, I must admit, but I remember the 80s, and I do try to stay a little bit informed. But watching this makes me wonder...is there anyone at all "wrestling" today who is one-tenth the wrestler that Dynamite was?
I remember Bret Hart calling him "pound for pound the greatest wrestler that ever lived", and while that is obviously an exaggeration (Lou Thesz could've taken him easily), Tom Billington must have been the greatest wrestler of the 80s by far
I disagree, I think that Dynamite was the wrestler of the 80s, and one of the only reasons that I rank Lou Thesz better than him is because of his innovations to the wrestling world. Just thought I could share my opinion as well.
Watching this match makes me very mad yet it's still satisfying. Wrestlers (I use the term loosely) fucking suck nowadays. God bless the dead list of pro wrestler, because whether you loved them of hate them, as past or current fans we took 'em for granted.
yeah there is...simple slide of the knee when he hits (i say simple but its not that simple lol but you know what I mean) so yeah, its just bret is damn good at selling those shots
that body slam on the outside was excellent it looked painful but brett protected him perfectly
