  • "So what do you think?"..."Sounds like a strat"....Is this guy for real???

  • One of the best projects ive seen lately.

  • A guy at a Guitar Center here in Des Moines tried to tell me that Gilmore's tremolo probably does go out of tune, and he uses a computer program to keep his guitar in tune. I don't know, maybe he thought I was an idiot. I just couldn't believe the ignorance.

  • danm that is a really awesome guitar, the guy that was helping kinda looks like sabretooth (x-men) and he plays REALLY good btw, it was great that you had pink floyd as "soundtrack", well done man, the clean tone was amazing sorry my ban english

  • Gilmours guitar has a 57v from 1983 neck which is C shaped.... Not V shaped.

  • What was the purpose of the aluminum foil looking stuff in the pickup cavity?

  • @tMattLZ To create almost a faraday cage, get rid of unwanted outside hum

  • nice

  • nice job but his black one is a 69 :P

  • nice man

  • nice man

  • dude where did you get the shortened tremolo arm?

  • @apollorocker google... stratcat.. they have everything you need to build a replica black strat.

  • Was curious about the micro switch--Is it to turn on the Neck Pickup when you have the bridge on, If so why didn't you just use the Mega Switch from StewMac... Nice job and sounds great. Pete

  • Aged white pickups?

  • Very well done

  • I want to know about the 18w Marhall clone. Did he buy a parts kit and if so where?

  • didnt david gilmours guitar have a floating tremelo?

  • @cmstricker67 at one point in the 80s it did. He had it removed. You can see the faint remainder of where the tremelo used to be. Phil Taylor replaced it with a small piece of wood and refinished the body.

  • V-shaped neck? Doesn't Gilmour's Black Strat have a C-shaped neck?

  • @ShortFingeredShreder yeah but it's really difficult to find them, they're " mistakes" when they started the reissues in the early 80's they " wrongly" made them with C shaped necks, and later in the 80's making " true replicas" with soft V's, however the wrong C necks are gilmour's favourite :( lol

  • ive got the gilmour style tremolo bar.....

    *throws it away*

    lol

  • qualcuno a palermo fa qsto tipo di lavoro??

  • Nice guitar, I've always been a big fan of relient k and have recently been getting into pink floyd. If you don't mind me asking, how much in all did this cost you?

  • ma prima di mettere le corde nn avete fatto il set-up?????

  • you shoulda started with a sunburst strat and painted over it black..

    "why go through that process?"

why not? you went through all the other trouble to replicate it lol.

  • are you sure the necks the correct colour ? is it not more of a orangey yellow

  • @crazydan07 I think its just that color on the original because of the aged lacquer

  • Looking good. Nice work.

  • Hello and BRAVO for your work :!

please come to see and hear my own replica DG on my page !!

  • Rock'in.

  • Jon, love the video....Good stuff!

  • great guitar. where did you bought the pickguard ??

  • Excellent video - very nice guitar.

If you don't mind me asking, what's a ballpark price for the cost of completing this project? I've been considering making my own DG strat as well. I just wanted to have some type of idea on how much this would run.

I'm sure it beats the $4,000 for the original.

  • Hell yeah man nice job! much better than paying 4000$ for it. can u tell me where your buddy bought his 18 watt amp kit from?

  • webber parts kit.... dont know where he got it though. thanks for the comment!

  • i cant find a pickguard as dark as davids!! every black one ive used always has a dull grey tint when against the black paint....if you look at gilmours his pickguard is even darker than the guitar....can someone tell me where david got his from or if he made it??

  • really cool looking guitar. Iam soure it plays grait!

But what are you doing at around 5:00

you screw 4 wires to the body is that some kind of groundwire like the one you normaly solder to the Tremolo claw?

  • @Williamdicki grounding to a screw

  • Gilmour's Black Strat has a C-shaped '57 reissue neck. Unlike the modern '57 reissue which is V-shaped. Not a big deal. Just thought i would put it out their though.

  • very nice rendition of a great guitar, great work on the soldering and electronics in general...

Would it be possible to list the parts / suppliers you used in this build?

I'd like to use it as a quick reference chart.

  • where did you get the pickguard from ?

and what type of black thoes gilmour has ??

  • Excellent job man! A very cool version of a great iconic Strat. One thing though, I guarantee the first time your buddies soldering iron slips out of his hand and bores a hole through his leg he'll stop wiring guards on his lap...Put it on the table!!!

  • Awesome!!

  • so after all that!! you go an build a replica strat of gilmours then play nothing by him, jeezus christ, i sat and waited for the black strat to be played with some gilmour licks and nothing, what a waste of 9min 55 seconds..

  • awesome but why mess with the original 57 reissue its a sick instrument in itself

  • Where did you get the pickguard from? You said it's already got that neck selector installed?

  • Comment removed

  • Hi i was wondering about grounding to the body, does that mean none of the grounds go to the trem claw and pots? and what does grounding to the body do differently. thanks. (im asking because im in the process of making a DG strat)

  • You can find the knobs here, they are worth it!

    retrospec-guitar.

  • hello where did you get the knobs with the green letters thanks

  • what are you gonna do with the pickups your replaced?

  • are the knobs and the pickup covers the same color

  • jon what's ur fav. guitar that u got?

  • sweet strat! didn't you break this one out at Ignite Chicago?

  • Hey Jon, just saw your awesome new guitar at Sonshine the other day. Thanks for the great show!

  • wow, that is really cool! i know i could never put a guitar together like that!! cool video

  • hey john and nick, is that a Gilmour NOS leaning up against your stack? Nice guitar boys.....

  • nice man

  • Where did you get that pickguard with the extra toggle switch ?

  • Nice ! It is so nice to see someone doing such neat work ...nice soldering and very neat insides.Even though noone will see the inside it shows pride in your work.Good luck with any future projects and you have inspired me to work on mine.I have 3 Strats that I want to make one killer out of as they all have their strengths and weaknesses.....

  • lol, my black strat replica is the same as yours. i got a 57 strat with SSl-1s in the neck and middle and an SSL-5 in the bridge. I also have the black pickguard which is the same exact one as yours too, the guy we bought it from does an awesome job at making them huh?.

  • I just bought one of those pickguards and I want to know if it really will look like davids....is it really acrylic?

  • It wont exactly because the edges of davids pickguard are rounded and the ones we have have a 45 degree angle. thats it though. unless your looking at it 5 inches from your face you can't tell the difference. other than the edges its exactly the same, switch and all. yes it is acrylic. IMO the thick acrylic pickguard that we bought looks way better than those black vinyl pickguards that are thinner.

  • Yeah mine cam in today..lol. yeah see I was worried because the black vinyl material looked gray on my guitar when put into the light..but the new one dont! Im really glad I got it. Thanks by the way!

  • YAYY!

  • nice! could you post some more gear vids?

  • Thats a sweet guitar. Isnt this verson of Run Like Hell from DSOT?

  • sure is!

  • that tone is beautiful.

  • Who is that handsome young man at 9:29? What an Adonis!

  • Awesome!

  • AWW BRO!! That guitar is ridiculous!! Treat it well!
