Awesomeness! Im building mine, but is based off of his in 1979, when The Wall and Animals was written, so instead of using an SSL-5 in the bridge, I'm using a DiMarzio FS-1. Looks cool! What neck and middle pickups do you think he used in 1979? Just wondering.
A guy at a Guitar Center here in Des Moines tried to tell me that Gilmore's tremolo probably does go out of tune, and he uses a computer program to keep his guitar in tune. I don't know, maybe he thought I was an idiot. I just couldn't believe the ignorance.
danm that is a really awesome guitar, the guy that was helping kinda looks like sabretooth (x-men) and he plays REALLY good btw, it was great that you had pink floyd as "soundtrack", well done man, the clean tone was amazing sorry my ban english
Was curious about the micro switch--Is it to turn on the Neck Pickup when you have the bridge on, If so why didn't you just use the Mega Switch from StewMac... Nice job and sounds great. Pete
@cmstricker67 at one point in the 80s it did. He had it removed. You can see the faint remainder of where the tremelo used to be. Phil Taylor replaced it with a small piece of wood and refinished the body.
@ShortFingeredShreder yeah but it's really difficult to find them, they're " mistakes" when they started the reissues in the early 80's they " wrongly" made them with C shaped necks, and later in the 80's making " true replicas" with soft V's, however the wrong C necks are gilmour's favourite :( lol
Nice guitar, I've always been a big fan of relient k and have recently been getting into pink floyd. If you don't mind me asking, how much in all did this cost you?
If you don't mind me asking, what's a ballpark price for the cost of completing this project? I've been considering making my own DG strat as well. I just wanted to have some type of idea on how much this would run.
i cant find a pickguard as dark as davids!! every black one ive used always has a dull grey tint when against the black paint....if you look at gilmours his pickguard is even darker than the guitar....can someone tell me where david got his from or if he made it??
Gilmour's Black Strat has a C-shaped '57 reissue neck. Unlike the modern '57 reissue which is V-shaped. Not a big deal. Just thought i would put it out their though.
Excellent job man! A very cool version of a great iconic Strat. One thing though, I guarantee the first time your buddies soldering iron slips out of his hand and bores a hole through his leg he'll stop wiring guards on his lap...Put it on the table!!!
so after all that!! you go an build a replica strat of gilmours then play nothing by him, jeezus christ, i sat and waited for the black strat to be played with some gilmour licks and nothing, what a waste of 9min 55 seconds..
Hi i was wondering about grounding to the body, does that mean none of the grounds go to the trem claw and pots? and what does grounding to the body do differently. thanks. (im asking because im in the process of making a DG strat)
Nice ! It is so nice to see someone doing such neat work ...nice soldering and very neat insides.Even though noone will see the inside it shows pride in your work.Good luck with any future projects and you have inspired me to work on mine.I have 3 Strats that I want to make one killer out of as they all have their strengths and weaknesses.....
lol, my black strat replica is the same as yours. i got a 57 strat with SSl-1s in the neck and middle and an SSL-5 in the bridge. I also have the black pickguard which is the same exact one as yours too, the guy we bought it from does an awesome job at making them huh?.
It wont exactly because the edges of davids pickguard are rounded and the ones we have have a 45 degree angle. thats it though. unless your looking at it 5 inches from your face you can't tell the difference. other than the edges its exactly the same, switch and all. yes it is acrylic. IMO the thick acrylic pickguard that we bought looks way better than those black vinyl pickguards that are thinner.
Yeah mine cam in today..lol. yeah see I was worried because the black vinyl material looked gray on my guitar when put into the light..but the new one dont! Im really glad I got it. Thanks by the way!
