when golf on tv first started, they would focus on the golfers smoking cigarettes and nobody more than arnold palmer. I never learned how to play golf like him, but I sure learned how to smoke those dam cigarettes.
Talking about Golf grips, When you pick up a golf club your hands are the only part of your body that touch the club. For many years the hands (grip) have often been referred to as the steering wheel of the golf swing. I don’t believe this could be more true. Gripping the golf club correctly makes playing this game a much better experience. w w w (dot) golferbreak80 (dot) c0m
Actually Seve is one of the greats, but that isn't what I said then. I said he could put the fear of God in an opponent, not only a great golfer but a great competitor. On paper, perhaps, his record isn't as impressive compared to other greats but, to use an already overused cliche "the game isn't played on paper". Seve is a titan of golf, it is arguable as to whether he is a titan of titans (though I would argue in his favour) but he remains a titan nonetheless.
the reason arnold palmer is one of the greatest golfers of the last centuary is because he knew how to win. doesn't matter how you hit a gold ball, so long as you can put the fear of god into your opponent and like nicklaus, woods, seve and even hogan they could do that.
This swing does look a little weird, but Arnold has the trophies to pruve it works, I know someone who met him in a CVS (like walgreens) a few days ago. I hear he is still a great guy.
Wow dude. He's almost 80 years old. Rumor has it he was younger when he won all those tournaments. Age/arthritis/miscellaneous ailments will take a toll on your golf swing. "Hack" might be a tad harsh. At 78 years old, he could still beat the majority of amateur golfers out there. Since you seem not to know much about Mr. Palmer, I'd guess you're not a golfer, or not much of one anyway, and I'd take him over you on any course at any time.
I agree, he definitely didn't have the prettiest swing in the world. But that's part of what made him popular, he was "one of us." But he obviously knew how to get the ball around the course. Just look at Jim Furyk today, or Miller Barber from Palmer's era. Not pretty like Els or Elkington, but still tournament champions.
@Shawkwak
Yes there is, but without "the swing" there would be "no" golf ;)

Dude... do you have any clue who that is? Palmer is a legend, and even old with his swing past his prime guaranteed he'd kick YOUR ass on the course.

Titan of titans? Are you suggesting Seve has a claim for being the best ever?

@SmallDannyJW if there is a Mount Rushmore of Golf, it'd be Palmer, Nicklaus, Seve, and Tom Watson

including seve in that equation is ridiculous if you're talking about the greats, seve doesn't compare
njb1211 3 years ago
the reason why arnold hit is good is fact..he:
-Kept his head very still
-Had a good grip
-And a good takeaway and backswing
