Is it bad if the first time I got here I didn't even get to the main melody of the song. I died on my last life before it even started...the other Touhou games were easy compared to this one for me. Haven't beaten midboss of stage 5 yet, but had PCB beat in 2 weeks.

I mean, but each game has a different difficulty spectrum. For example, the difference between Imperishable Normal and Lunatic is MUCH greater than Earth Spirits Normal and Lunatic, and I had more trouble with Cherry Normal than even Earth Spirits Normal.

Sure, the goddamn cat is one of the reasons(with the other one being characrers being weaker than in other games) that makes the SA the hardest Touhou after the double Spoiler, but this... I just can't find the words for it. It's exactly like @BubbleMusic911 said, it is suprisingly suitable. I agree, the part of the fittingness is in the timing of certain attacks to certain parts of the song, but even the best timing wouldn't do shit if the tune would be bad.
Reisen is easy to beat, I don't get what you ppl mean by her being hard to defeat. Now, Reimu was an ass pain. The only hard thing about Reisen is her stupid vanishing danmaku...
This song is a masterpiece. On the surface, it's a pretty simple melody, but something about it just draws me in like very few songs can. When ZUN's signature trumpet (and signature key change) come in following the bridge it's so powerful. This is coming from one very involved with music as a composer.

@danesp101 Touhou 1-5 were not made by ZUN alone; they were made by Amusement Makers, which ZUN was a member of until he split off. Those that remained in Amusement Makers went on to produce Seihou while ZUN formed "Team" Shanghai Alice to continue with Touhou.
@KlLLAH573 Well technicly they were his idea so yeah...that's is also the reason most PC-98 characters won't come back ever.They are owned by amusement makers so no more Mima or Shinki or any other PC-98 character who hasn't appeared by touhou 9.Unless ZUN buys them back but he is one busy bastard.For all we know he already has half of the trial for the next game.Be it a decimal game or regular he has something done already.

ZUN is truly amazing. First time I was in this stage, at the first windy bit, I thought this was gonna be one of the dangerous stage 5 bosses ever, even harder than Sanae/Sakuya/Youmu/Reisen. It also sounded quite scary...
It was indeed a hard stage, but the song... I was thinking "wait this is hell, right? Then this is way to beautiful and calm for hell!"
Even though it was calm, it still somehow suited hell...
@BubbleMusic911 i thought she WAS the hardest ever... sakuya is epic, but not too tough (patchy is the hard one for me). youmu is easy as all hell to read. very simple patterns, although still easy to make stupid errors on/waste a bomb. Reisen is more or less the same thing. i usually use a bomb or two on her, but almost never lose a life. Sanae is probably the easiest one on your list for me...
BUT ORIN. FUCKING ORIN. I struggle to beat her (or rather, her fairies) on fucking Easy Modo...
Rin, Sanae/Youmu (in my opinion they're the same for difficulty), Sakuya, Reisen. Reisen is lucky if she gets me to bomb on normal. Hell, on hard mode I didn't lose a single life on her (bombed three times, though :P)
@Digitalsp33r I just don't get it... I hear people say "Reisen is so damn hard to beat", although I find her pretty easy, compared to Marisa/Reimu (if they/you mean Imperishable Night).
It's just to look a bit in front of you and look up the spots where you can get through before she makes the bullets vanish, right?
@JinGitaxias Exactly. She shows the pathway through before she makes them visible again. Even though there's 'planning time' against Sakuya, and to an extent, Youmu, it's still easier as against Reisen you have full speed and control while planning your escape...
Man, just by listening to some Touhou songs I get all fired up. Damn you, ZUN. Why do you have to make a masterpiece of almost every Touhou song. Why.
I would enjoy it, but Orin keeps offing me at the boss section and those circling orbs that just won't die ... I think of them every time I hear this song.
@Pollix780 The easiest way to do stage5 when there is the circling orbs that make the spirits dance is to not shoot and just take a second to relax. Infact that's what stage5 reminds me of really, the more you resist the urge to shoot the easier it is a nice breather mid-game.
@heavenhicks74 Can't understand a word you've written, but in EoSD, Remilia is the Stage 6 boss and Flandre is the extra stage boss. Extra stage is unlocked by beating the game on normal or higher without using any continues. If you play on Easy mode, you will not get to Remilia, so make sure you play on Normal or higher. If you plan on downloading your first Touhou game, I would start out with Imperishable Night. It is by far one of the easiest, even though it is still pretty hard, aha.. ;;
@CristalFighter Yeah, Zun's newer games are ALOT harder than 6-8. I wouldn't know the difficulty of 1-5, since I have yet to play the PC98 era. SA is the hardest touhou game I've played, no. 12 is a little easier and 13 looks quite simple, too.

@ryuail It wasn't those orbs, it's the ones that have a ton of health and spam their orbs at 0:24 that drive me nuts. Trying to beat it on Hard but they stop me dead every time. Not 1CC of course, it was hard enough on normal.
Without a doubt ZUN is a master with his timing in music, but I think the transition between this theme and Orin's theme is absolutely flawless. You glide over the former ruins of hell in its abandonment and then crash head-on with Hell's Traffic Accident into a barrage of danmaku. I just love how the empty winds whistle and then as she transforms the theme changes and becomes full of energy.
i remember when i thought okuu and orin as lesser characters, then i got more and more into touhou, now i love em, and this theme is one of the reasons !! :33
Since people stopped being condemned to the hellfires, the oni don't visit anymore either, so this place has become the playground to spirits and animals. Actually, I'm thrilled whenever I see something like a building people have abandoned.
The grounds of former hell must be enveloped in the sort of loneliness that surrounds ruins ... is what I thought of as I made this.

A full, total, direct 100% ripoff from "kiss from a rose" by Seal. The song appeared as the main theme for the then-popular Batman Forever soundtrack, and was released in 1994. SA was released in 2008.

ZUN is truly amazing. First time I was in this stage, at the first windy bit, I thought this was gonna be one of the dangerous stage 5 bosses ever, even harder than Sanae/Sakuya/Youmu/Reisen. It also sounded quite scary...
It was indeed a hard stage, but the song... I was thinking "wait this is hell, right? Then this is way to beautiful and calm for hell!"
Even though it was calm, it still somehow suited hell...
Now THAT is talent.

@BubbleMusic911 i thought she WAS the hardest ever... sakuya is epic, but not too tough (patchy is the hard one for me). youmu is easy as all hell to read. very simple patterns, although still easy to make stupid errors on/waste a bomb. Reisen is more or less the same thing. i usually use a bomb or two on her, but almost never lose a life. Sanae is probably the easiest one on your list for me...
BUT ORIN. FUCKING ORIN. I struggle to beat her (or rather, her fairies) on fucking Easy Modo...

@Neherazade For me, the difficulty level goes:
Rin, Sanae/Youmu (in my opinion they're the same for difficulty), Sakuya, Reisen. Reisen is lucky if she gets me to bomb on normal. Hell, on hard mode I didn't lose a single life on her (bombed three times, though :P)

@Digitalsp33r I just don't get it... I hear people say "Reisen is so damn hard to beat", although I find her pretty easy, compared to Marisa/Reimu (if they/you mean Imperishable Night).
It's just to look a bit in front of you and look up the spots where you can get through before she makes the bullets vanish, right?

@JinGitaxias Exactly. She shows the pathway through before she makes them visible again. Even though there's 'planning time' against Sakuya, and to an extent, Youmu, it's still easier as against Reisen you have full speed and control while planning your escape...

@ultraikki Well because if you use a bomb, your power will go down by 1.00. Also, the bombs are a lot weaker in SA than in UFO.

I would enjoy it, but Orin keeps offing me at the boss section and those circling orbs that just won't die ... I think of them every time I hear this song.

@Pollix780 The easiest way to do stage5 when there is the circling orbs that make the spirits dance is to not shoot and just take a second to relax. Infact that's what stage5 reminds me of really, the more you resist the urge to shoot the easier it is a nice breather mid-game.

Though, I still find the 4th stage harder. The worst part of Stage 5 is, basically, cat walk.

@heavenhicks74 Can't understand a word you've written, but in EoSD, Remilia is the Stage 6 boss and Flandre is the extra stage boss. Extra stage is unlocked by beating the game on normal or higher without using any continues. If you play on Easy mode, you will not get to Remilia, so make sure you play on Normal or higher. Good luck!

I got introduced to the series about a year ago from Vocaloid and I don't regret it. ;U;
If you plan on downloading your first Touhou game, I would start out with Imperishable Night. It is by far one of the easiest, even though it is still pretty hard, aha.. ;;

@CristalFighter Yeah, Zun's newer games are ALOT harder than 6-8. I wouldn't know the difficulty of 1-5, since I have yet to play the PC98 era. SA is the hardest touhou game I've played, no. 12 is a little easier and 13 looks quite simple, too.

There's a lot to learn about the series, you'll probably want to look into it more before you suddenly start playing. Sorry if I sound mean or anything, I know your new to the series (And I checked your profile, I know your only 11 after all) but I'm just giving you a little heads up.
Getting introduced to the series that early is pretty good though. Hope you have fun playing it.

@ryuail It wasn't those orbs, it's the ones that have a ton of health and spam their orbs at 0:24 that drive me nuts. Trying to beat it on Hard but they stop me dead every time. Not 1CC of course, it was hard enough on normal.

Without a doubt ZUN is a master with his timing in music, but I think the transition between this theme and Orin's theme is absolutely flawless. You glide over the former ruins of hell in its abandonment and then crash head-on with Hell's Traffic Accident into a barrage of danmaku. I just love how the empty winds whistle and then as she transforms the theme changes and becomes full of energy.

A full, total, direct 100% ripoff from "kiss from a rose" by Seal. The song appeared as the main theme for the then-popular Batman Forever soundtrack, and was released in 1994. SA was released in 2008.
Zun just lost quite a few Cool points in my book :x
