Can you guys create similar/ better results with an LS7 without getting into the short block? Im leaning more towards street legal race car, who needs drivability? The sound of this car surpasses just about any H/C package I have seen from just about any of the vendors... nobody seems to have a "wild" cam in their lineup anymore. I want a car that wont leave a stop light without an uncontrollable power band or chuggin like a freight train >=]
I want the C5-R block as a base for a coffee table. I think in terms of performance and price the LS7 and LSX (although it is iron) are a better way to go these days, but the C5-R block is just such a work of art, and not mass produced like the others.
Perfect license plate holder. Can totally see some faggots in there "super cars" turning on their right turn signal after this thing pulled up next to them at a stop light!!
lovely sound...I'm an import guy but that is how American cars are SUPPOSED to sound..not like the fucking rust buckets they are turning out these days.
The C5R is the race block developed by GM Racing and Katech Engineering for the Leman's program. Displacement is the same but materials, strength etc are much different. There's a reason C5R blocks are 7k apiece. If you google C5R there are many articles explaining the differences.
whats the difference with the LS7 and C5R 427? Im assuming the C5R is intended for race use only? anyone know the differences (specs, internals etc.)?
i just bought a 98 c5 and im trying to learn what all of these vettes on youtube r doing to get 427 ci r they using their orginal blocks? ive tried findin 427 kits where is the best place to look for them??
Me you I would just buy a short block and go from there. eBay or craigs list soem speed shops have good deals on them.
Your going to have to bore and stroke the motor remember the B&S of an Ls1 346 cu is 3.90/3.62 the B&S of a LS7 427 cu is 4.125 x 4.00. I think if i am sure you an only bore .010 over on the LS1 but safe is .005. So realistically a new block is best.
If you want to stay with a Gen3 block you'll either have to shell out the money for a C5R block, which is not cheap, or find a sleeved LS1 block. Then you just need to get the rotating assembly which isn't all that hard to come by. I'd have to say though that just swapping in an LS7 would be the best choice.
You can have your stock LS1 block sleeved, but the best option would be to go with either a C5R block from GM Performance, or get an LS7 and do the necessary work to make it compatible with your Gen 3 PCM. Neither way is going to be cheap, but with a decent head and cam package, you should be able to keep the car easy to drive around on a fairly regular basis while making 600+ bhp. You might even check in with the guys over at Katech. They could prolly help you out.
thats the sexiest sound i ever heard i would trade any hot girlfriend i ever had for that....gd i hate not being 50 years old and rich...id trade u all the 22 year old girls my age for that thing in a heartbeat
hello i was under the impression the word "cam" stood for "camshafts" but how the fuck can a camshaft be massive? in what kind of way massive? nice car by the way, i'm starting to like corvettes more and more!
amazing.. where i live, i'm having a hard time finding someone who can tint my windows, muchless tune it as good as you would.. how'bout you come to bama for me hah
this is a buddy of mines vette. its a C5R 427 obviously with B&B Bullets, Kooks Longtube headers, full cage by elite race cars in Ft Pierce FL etc. This video DOES NOT do this car any justice.... this is one of the meanest sounding cars, EnglandGreen can tell you that, and if you live in the Vero Beach, FL area, theres a very good chance it could sneak up behind you when you do not suspect it...

whats the difference between an ls7 and ls7 c5-r?
albert12able 6 months ago
@albert12able The C5-R was made years before the LS7 engine. It is the 427ci block from the Corvette Racing Team
EnglandGreen 6 months ago
Yep. The last time I checked, I think the C5-R 427 is available from the GM Performance Parts catalog as a crate motor.

C5R 427 uses a bigger bore then the LS7 427 but a smaller stroke making it the same displacement.
