@Willsterdude3000 Infact Longhorn was its own operating system which Microsoft scraped half way through designing due to the fact it was build from the source code of Windows xp which caused it too become messy and buggy which is why they started coding Vista from scratch the reason it was a failed os is because it was rushed.

@Danny123173 Windows has actually never been rewritten from scratch since NT 3.1. Every release has built ontop of previous versions. The development reset and resulting Vista was the best thing that could happen. Indeed, Longhorn was a mess and built on the same insecure coding principles as XP. Vista wasn't that bad. Yes, it had some performance issues in the beginning and hardware manufacturers who couldn't even write proper drivers, but it didn't deserve the rep it got.

I am using Vista for over 2 years now, and I'm still happy with it. Not everyone has problems with Vista. My Vista runs fine, and I think I will still be using it for a while now.

Of course Windows 7 is better, but Vista runs fine for me, so why should I change.

I Have a (real) system that currently runs Windows Longhorn build 4074, everything seems stable, I have removed the timebomb (so it doesn't BSoD every hour with 0x98), everything but onboard ethernet works. Some programs (games) have trouble with Direct3D, but otherwise they run perfectly. Awesome.

This version of windows is - hands down - the worst OS ever built in the history of microsoft. The best they could salvage from this, was Vista..which is - hands down - the second worse OS every built int he history of Microsoft.

It seems like it would use a ridiculous amount of RAM, and a very high expensive CPU, not to mention the graphics card... I think that they should just keep remodeling it until the average computer is cough up to it.

Remodeling as in, Errors, lower CPU usage, lower RAM usage, and better virus protection with out using an AV.

The difference is that a thing called the 2004 Development Reset made 2 things happen. The first thing shouldn't matter at this point, but the 2nd one definetely should:

1. Go back to the development's drawing board with a new codebase.

2. Axing of many important, brand new features, like WinFS, NGSCB, & Phodeo.

Microsoft Windows Version 6.0.4074 was the last version before this. Vista shipped as 6.0.6000.

I think of Longhorn as the Alpha Vista. I have used Vista and it was way fucking better than XP. Don't give that it sucks bullshit. It rocked. I upgrade to Windows 7 today and it's well done. A much better Vista. Longhorn is fascinating but think of it as a real OS. It was just an unfinished/scrapped OS.

If Vista didn't suck, I would've still used it. I tried to get a GENERIC USB MOUSE WORKING. VISTA DID NOT ACCEPT IT. Get that in your Vista-loving brain.

And Windows 7 is it's own OS. Since it's better than Vista.

Vista is the reason a lot of people gone for Mac. Because Vista downright sucks.

@gordanbadman I had a shitload of problems with Windows Vista. My generic mouse stopped working. Y'know, a Plug'n'Play mouse? You just put the USB cable in the appropriate slot? Yeah, Vista stopped working.

Also, Team Fortress 2 was way too incompatible with Vista. I settled for Ubuntu then XP.

Face it, everyone but you hates Vista.

@gordanbadman Trust me.... Vista is a bad OS. It's ME v2. That's why a small percentage of the enterprise world would migrate to Vista. The percentage was much higher for Windows 7. Most companies stick with XP. If they need to, they go to Windows 7. I haven't seen any company, so far, use Vista. The people that I have heard that switched HATE it.

I use Vista because I do not have an extra product key for Windows 7, and I do not have the HDD drivers for XP. I am not happy with Vista.

yeah i can see where your coming from longhorn was the beast but now i would say its gettin i little old with windows 7 and snow leopard now here longhorn wont be compatible with alot of modern features and technologies and longhorn reloaded never realy did much because it was shutdown my microsoft in eary stages =]

Had that build on my Dell Latitude D600. It was so horrible. It only had a 30GB hard drive so right out of the box only 3GB of HD space was left. explorer.exe crashed all the time and the audio didn't work. The wireless card worked out of the box, however. Didn't have the sidebar because of the low specs. (384MB DDR-266, ATi Radeon 9000). Ran so slow, and Internet Explorer was so crashy so I had to use Firefox 1.5.

I would not download Longhorn. It was never stable enough to be a main operating system. Windows 7 RC is a lot more stable than Longhorn. Longhorn was never fully developed and instead they came up with Vista.... Very Stupid Desicion if you ask me

@terekevadexD Actually, I had Longhorn on a 384MB laptop [build 3718] and it worked just fine. Sure I couldn't install anything, but that's due to the fact it's an alpha. Vista lags terribly and is in fact even more unstable than Longhorn. Microsoft knew what was wrong and made Windows 7.

I am downloading Windows Longhorn 4008 and it is 660+ MB and i really want 4074 instead of 4008. I need it seriously. As for the 4008 download it is a 6 part download from rapidshare and it is 99 mb for each one except the last which is 48 mb. Like the the video though, gives an idea on what 4008 is going to look like

ON normal instal Longorn Work drivers from XP but you must instal drivers from Device menager I known becuse now im write from Sigma OS 1.2 Polish modification of Longhorn 4074
