  • Awesome! I have not heard this song for a long time.... but for some reason, it was stuck in my head this morning. So glad for YouTube that you can go and find things like this. It's a great song. Thanks for posting!

  • Greetings from Australia, Jack and Misty - I have not heard this one for years! A hit out here though, remember the kids in the schoolyard singing it even. Thank you for posting this.

  • Buddy Rich was a fantastic drummer. I don't think he claimed to be a songwriter. He was not the pleasantest of people.

  • @jackandmisty My friend Lisa played this for me years ago! Still enjoyable.

I've heard Rich blessing out his band and it could definitely peel paint, however, I read that even though he rode his band he actually didn't fire as many members as the tapes would imply. Paul Anka comes off almost as nasty, but he does say at the end that he wants his band to be as engaged and committed to the music as he is.

  • @jackandmisty Love this video and love the song.It reminds me of childhood.I wasn't a big country music fan at the time, but I hung out with someone who was.The radio was always on the local country station at his house.I can vividly remember hearing this song there as we did what we did.Thank you for being part of the soundtrack of my life.Hope you and Misty are well.

  • Somebody asked if we are the original artists. The answer is "Yes."

This is a live television show, and live TV shows don't sound like your grandmother's 45 rpm record. The original record, by us, is somewhere on this page.

  • @jackandmisty

I recently bought an old 1966 Magnagox stereo - and have been playing my old 45's. I never get tired

of listening to the 'Tennessee Bird Walk'. ...brings back a lot of memories! I am so glad that I kept all of

my old records........as I had forgotten about that particular song! ;-)

  • love it !

  • We had this and "A Boy Named Sue" on cassette tape as a kid. The tape doesn't work anymore because we played it so much.

  • this is so funny- it brightened my day!

  • I love this cachy tune.

  • I love this cachy tune

  • Hi Jack & Misty! I just wanted to thank you for uploading your videos. Your LP was the first record I ever bought - I was 12 years old and loved this song! I spent my whole allowance on it, and played it to death on our old record player. I have no idea what happened to the record, it's long gone, but I never imagined that I'd see you on a computer screen more than 40 years later...how the world has changed since "Bird Walk" Thanks for the great song that put a smile on my face, then and now :)

  • I heard this song on radio while on a camping trip lol

    Very deep song.

How about some trees so the birds won't have to sit upon the ground!

  • THIS IS SO "GREAT"!!!!!!!!

  • Oh. My. Gosh. I used to listen to this on a compilation record called "Kooky Country" or something like that. I've been meandering all over YouTube for songs from that record and I'm SO glad I found this one! I'm laughing all over again over 30 years later! Thanks for posting this! xo

  • I remember this too. I was a girl and had the 45 of it. Thanks for the memory

  • Hey Jack and Misty.....I was in the Navy working in the Pentagon when this came out....and found out that some old college friends were in the Army living about a mile from me. We used to listen to this, and HUMPHREY THE CAMEL....and laugh forever! Believe me...with Viet Nam going on then, we needed a laugh! THANKS TO YOU BOTH!

  • how about that a youtube now we can hear this song every day do to to do do

  • Thanks for sharing this classic memory

  • Hey guy's (if this is jack?!) I enjoyed the video great stuff. You won't remember us

we were called the (Nashville Knights) aka The Cotton Dan Band, Claude King's band (Wolverton Mountain) we worked several shows with you guy's on the same bill, we traveled for about 16 yrs then gave up the road.

Just wanted to say hi, check out the Cotton Dan Band videos or Claude King.

Claude Is 88 yrs old as of Feb 2011 and going strong.

David Daniels (lead guitar) The Cotton Dan Band

  • I still remember this but can anyone remember when this came out? I think early to mid 70's.

  • @bama3417 It came oit in 1970.

  • @bama3417 are these the original artists of this song, my grandma had the 45rpm opf it, and it did not sound like this, smae though

  • Jack, I don't know why, but most drummers DO have abrasive personalities. Great song, and always enjoyed it.

  • I was listening to a syndicted radio show once and apparently someone who was a drummer and who idolized Buddy Rich went to a show of his and was going to ask him to autograph one of his cymbals. I guess Buddy made some really inappropriate comments to him and really hurt his feelings. Now this was just a kid and he was completely devastated and disenchanted. I huess it just proves that even though someone is famous doesn't stop them from being mean spirited

  • I'm still proud to say that this is the first piece of music I ever purchased for myself. I loved it so much I packed it in my suitcase and took it on our family vacation-and it somehow never made it back home with me! I had the original 45.

  • Oddest think happened to me today. All of a sudden this song just popped into my head. I recall hearing it back in the 70's.

    Thank you so much!

  • I had the 45 to this song when I was 4 years old. What a trip down memory lane! Thanks for posting this Jack & Misty. The live version absolutely rocks - especially the mini moog playing by Misty.

  • One of the best c&w hits of all time and what a great live version,Gavan Newcastle,Australia

  • Just played this for my 15 year old son and he was cracking up like I used to when this would come on the radio or Jack and Misty would be on the TV. It was one of our "Turn it up songs!". Thanks for the memories, guys.

  • What a great song. Once I hear it I sing it for the rest of the day.

  • TWEET THIS!!

  • I used to listen to this with my parents when I was a child, hadn't thought about it in ages, so glad there is a video of this performance! Brings back so many fond memories. Thank you!

  • My parents recently got a new car and Dad got satellite radio with it. We took a trip to visit family in GA in it last Spring and I heard this song for--as far as I can remember--the first time and I love it! Very creative!

  • I used to go ( back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth) with a disc jockey. He used to play this song all the time. (Yes, when it first came out!)

A great song, bringing back great days.

  • This has to be in "ALL" small town bar jukeboxes, THIS SONG RULES!!!!!!!!!

  • I can remember listening to this (and the Legendary Chicken Fairy) on WEXL-1340 in Detroit almost 40 years ago!

  • LOL Loved this one Jack! I remember hearing this the first time when I was little and we were out in the barn milking the cows. Didn't mean much to the cows but I would be waiting for it to come on the radio again every time we were down in the barn. Your comment about Buddy Rich was priceless.

  • GREAT LYRICS ON THIS TUNE!!!!!!!!!!

  • THIS SONG RULES AS I REMEMBER THIS AS A KID!!!!!!!!!!

  • Love the solo! Got some big belly laughs from this song :-)

  • This was such a cute and funny song! I remember it when I was quite young. I liked to picture the birds walking, whistling, and wearing underwear -- and it made me laugh. It's so good to hear it again after all these years.

  • hey ralph emery is my mom's boss

  • Actually, I thought Buddy Rich was a phenomenal drummer. He seemed to have an abrasive personality, and I just thought he deserved a shot back for what he said.

  • @jackandmisty I do recall that Buddy Rich said that country music was "junk" or something like that. Later I read that he'd mercilessly berate even his backup musicians. There've been a few dogs on the country charts, but there is great treasure in many country records' musicianship, storytelling and tunes. Just the material written by Hank Williams Sr. is classic and stands the test of time. As for Buddy Rich, I can't name one tune he wrote. He was a lightning fast drummer, epitaph.

  • This song still makes me laugh! Been a long time since I heard it.

  • Jack and Misty,

Thank you for posting this. You can't help but smile when you listen to this. Your voices are awesome. I'm sure you've been told that often enough. I remember the guitar on the old 45s, but seeing Misty and hearing the synthesizer solo was just as great!

    Great Tune !!

Oh and love the rebuttal to Buddy Rich... hilarious!

  • I always ( and still do ) liked this song

  • Me and a couple of my friends heard that song on a Sattelite TV music station one night a few months back. We were a couple sheets in the wind and laughed our @@@ off.

    Love it

  • I had forgotten this one! I Love it! Looks like you two had a lot fun with it too!!! Thanks for the video and trip down memory lane!

  • Weeyoo Weeyoo! Love the tweetybird synth!

  • Great song! I think that Buddy Rich was a no-talent hack who was afraid of Country Music because it was a lot better than anything he did.

  • We see you as aunts and uncles, thank you for sharing.

  • Just another AWSOME song from my childhood.

  • Wow I just ""love"" this song, it brings back many many memories of my childhood. Everytime this song came on the radio I had 2 have my folks turn it up & then when we got the song in a 45 it was played all the time, in fact, I STILL HAVE IT, but sadly NO record player 2 play it on. Thanks Mr. Blanchard & Ms. Morgan 4 doin this song!! God Bless U Both!!!!

  • What fun! This really takes me back - listening to this on WWL New Orleans from just about anywhere in the country. There was an animated video associated with the song, but I can't remember whether I saw it on a PBS show like Sesame Street or some prime-time variety show. Nice to hear you guys are still around. Thanks for the wonderful tune!

  • maybe you're thinking of "Curiosity Shop"; it was a Saturday morning show of the early 70's, a live action w/ puppets sort of thing. That's where I recall seeing the animation you mentioned. The video posted here by the kids animation class reminds me a lot of it!

  • This is TOO CUTE! Thanks for sharing with us. I shared this with my mom last Spring and she loved it. A classic, that brings a smile.

  • This song was my introduction to Electronicia way back in the early 70s, when my dear Father still drew breath.

  • Jack and Misty- hi from Buffalo. nice to find this on YouTube because 1) my daughter loves Birdwalk, we have the 45 and the Lp too! 2) I'm interested in local music and people from Buffalo.

Question- I've been told that Jack wrote a song recorded by The Playboys. Maybe even was a member of this local doowop group? Also I believe that the Playboys kind of turned into The Graduates. Can you tell me who was in the Playboys? Was Johnny Capello (aka Johnny Holliday)? Thanks, Bob Paxon

  • I remember my dad requesting this song when I was younger on some radio station, and i thought it was a funny song

  • I remember my mom had this album back in the 70's when I was in 6th grade. I would play it everyday when I got home from school. Today at almost 41 I find myself signing the chorus line and people looking at me like I'm nuts. I have tried numerous times to find this record with no luck. I was real surprised to see it on youtube. Thank you for putting it on.

  • Cool song! I had this 45. It had 'Clock of Saint James' on it, too! Another good song! I have them both on my iPod.

  • How great that you guys posted this vid. Big hit here in Australia too. Some pretty hot guitar on the original. Who was that? The duel keyboard husband and wife thing - does that pre-date C & T? Thanks for posting this classic.

  • Thanks. The original guitar was Billy Sanford.

And, yes, we were before captain & Tenille.

    All the best.

    Jack & Misty

  • Thank you for the memory. This was all over high school in the early 70's. I hope you both are well and happy today. I've got to get a CD with the song on it for the kids.

    Cheers. Jack & Misty

  • Thank you Jack and Misty for posting this! I have an old 33 with this song on it that I play for the kids (to their delight). My wife and I love it too. I would sure like to see this song resurface as a remake, either by you two or possibly the Dixie Chicks (sure is an appropriate song for a group with that name). I wish I had some connections.

  • Please post "SOMEWHERE IN VIRGINIA THE RAIN" and THERE MUST BE MORE TO LIFE THAN GROWING OLD....Both great songs

  • We're still looking for the videos of those songs. Thanks for writing.

    Jack & Misty

  • I was very young myself when I first heard this song. Just today, it showed up in my Yahoo music radio station, and I went digging for it, and this was the only copy of it anywhere I could find. Brings back some great, great memories! Thank you so much.

  • I would to see someone post '' Some where in Virginia in the rain'' and ''There must be more to life than growing old'' two great songs with a message.

  • Thanks for the great video! I grew up listening to country music (thanks to Mom) but only recently have come to truly appreciate classic country. I always enjoyed it when your songs got played on the radio, and I'm grateful for the chance to reconnect with your music. If possible, I'd love to see "Humphrey the Camel" on YouTube!

  • if Eggs had legs.

  • Just great, so I had a chance to see Jack and Misty for the first time in my life performing, after some 30 years of knowing their songs - wish there would by soon more of their music on you tube, what a pity that nobody in Europe /not to speak about Czech rep./ plays their songs on te air

  • I am a great fan of Jack and Misty, contrary to your comments, Jack and Misty are played regularly on the European airwaves. They also have a fan club in Europe.

  • Hi, and thanks for your very nice comment. Do you know how we can get in touch with our fan club in Europe?

All the best. Jack & Misty

  • Thanx for letting me know you're here! No slight on Guy and Ralna, but the original shall always be the finest. Chirp chirp.

  • I remember this song from my childhood. Thanks so much for posting! I love this song.

  • i wanna see ..lonesome song :(

  • As long as i've been posting on your message board i have never actually seen you perform...That was great!

  • Cool! Nice to hear. I used to have this on Goofy Greats when I was a kid. I've often sung it to my own kids, and now they think I'm goofy, great.
