  • So glad little Fireese got the role on BST 3&4!! Congrats! My nephew and I get to watch her on our tv all the time :)

  • Oh my goodness! my daughter is 16 months and her signing has slowed too! ha! go figure, maybe it's a brain development thing?

creat videos! i will check out signing times videos! :)

  • show off...I've seen other child could do like that

  • @MrMahdoh nope, not showing off. My whole point is that ALL children are capable of doing this, not just mine. I've seen hundreds of kids do this!

  • this is an incredible, inspiring story. i'm so glad i stumbled upon this.

  • This is very true for me when I was growing up.

  • yes baby learn fast sign language,,,

try put closed captioned on this video

  • congrats Laura & Fireese! it's brilliant that people are starting to teach there kids sign young. my sister is profoundly deaf and a lot of people dont know sign language - so now as more people learn hopefully in the years to come a lot of people should be able to sign.

i also agree with ginamartinez, you should go on oprah or some show like that and spread the word!

btw - Fireese is so cute!!!!

  • responding & understanding & responding? Initially we were afraid of the same thing everyone else is that it would delay her speech but when you said at the end we take in language on the left side of our brain as a sound and signing on the left as an image then we were convinced its definitely the right thing to do. Again great job! Kudo's to you! You are an inspiration :)

  • Hi Laura, firstly its fantastic to watch a mother so involved and connected to her baby its a beautiful sight.

So our daughter is closing in on 5 months age we are thinking of starting to sign with. She is solely on the breast & is just starting to roll on her back & sit up. I speak English as a 1st language & arabic her mother speaks Bulgarian so we are expecting her to speak late but all 3 languages at once. So we want her to sign in the meantime so how long will it take for her to start

  • Thank you :-)

All babies are different, some pick signing up fast and others take a little longer. The important part is to be consistent when you do sign. Every time you say the word make the sign. That way she'll pick it up faster. Have a read of the article I wrote (link in my channel page) that gives suggestions on how to start signing :-)

  • @mowdaras My wife's parents speak only Chinese. My wife and I are bilingual; her native language is Chinese and mine English. Our baby learned to sign around one year and really took off when we got her the Baby Signing Time program at about 14 months. She was a bit late speaking (about 18 months) but now, at two years, she is using full sentences in both languages and can read about 100 words. Sign language served as a bridge between the two languages helping her connect the words.

  • Laura - I was THRILLED to hear you say you were against your daughter watching television. I agree 100%. I don't even think television belongs in any household. This world offers so much to see, taste, hear, smell and feel. Children especially need to experience these things for themselves and not as secondhand fodder from professional gossips. Have you ever thought of writing a parenting book? I would buy it just for the information even though I've never been a mother. Keep up the great work!

  • Thank you, that's very sweet of you to say so! Maybe I should start working on one ;-)

  • Hey Laura,

What a great job with teaching your daughter wonderful things! I love your videos! Continue on!

  • Hey Laura, did you hear about Oprah's Search for the World's Smartest and Most Talented Kids? You should enter Fireese!

  • No I didn't... thanks for the suggestion :-)

  • omg if you and Fireese got on Oprah.. (and i dont see why you wouldnt) it would be amazing, the exposure and for more parents to see the benefits of signing with their babies! you should definitely enter.. you cant lose, and there's much to gain! :)

everybody would love Fireese as much as us 'subscribers' do.

  • LOL! You are VERY sweet to say so! :-)

  • Hi Laura, I'm sure you already said it somewhere but when did your daughter make her first sign? I have been signing with my sin since he was 4 months old and now he just turned 9 months and I show him the baby signing time videos which he loves! But I was wondering when they start to sigh back.

  • My baby started signing back when she was 9 and a half. Every baby is different. She is almost eleven and she signs 27 signs so far. I started signing with her when she was 3 months. So be Patience. He will be signing back very soon and probably many signs at the same time.

  • I'm only 15, but I really think this is amazing! :D

I want at least 4 kids when I'm older and married, and I'll definitely do stuff like this so I can be a better mom.

I also want to be a preschool teacher, so this is something I'd so use in my classroom if I ever do become a preschool teacher :)

  • Thanks for the vid Laura! I am not a parent yet, but i will remember all the useful tips you have given to us on youtube! I think you are a very awesome mom!

  • Thank you for your comment :-)

  • Laura - I just joined your FB group. Thanks for sharing your story! I really appreciate your care for not only your child, but all children. When I have a baby I will have fun with your teachings! The cheerio/cheese story proves how sign helps parents understand what their children need/want.

I've had concerns with kids watching TV, too. In my Psychology class my teacher says it can cause ADD, but those videos would be a way to gain interest in signing.

"I made a word!" So adorable..

  • i used to be deaf and since then i'v forgotten a little bit of it. Now i'm 14 and since watching some of your vids i'm teaching kids at school too. i'm actually trying to teach my niece and nephew the alphabet. the love your daughter. thank you so much for the inspiration!

  • Thank you so much I am currently in College to become a Developmental Services Worker and we somewhat talked about Baby signing and we acturally used one of your videos as a demostration. I am going to pass this on to my professor because it really shows that Langurage is not delayed

thank you so much for this learning aid and by the way Firesse is a beautiful talented girl and I believe she is going to do amazing things

  • Thank you so much! :-)

  • wow. I am just completely and TOTALLY amazed. I'm actually only 13, but I've watched your videos and been amazed since the first videos, when I subscribed. I always wait for a new video because it's SO cool that you can do this! When I'm older and I have kids... I'm going to look back on this and teach my baby sing language and watch the signing time videos with them. Thanks so much for the great ideas!!! And Fireese has grown so much... she's beautiful! Great job!!!

    -Caitlyn

  • I admire you. I reallllly do! As I've said, my mom and brother are deaf, so my main communication is sign language, and I was always worred about how I would teach my FUTURE kids [my mom could help, but I'd have to do most], but you help me realize it is possible. I actually started sentences at 9 months old, telling my mom I wanted milk. =) My cousin has down syndrome, and he can't speak very well, so they taught him SL, and now they can communicate with him. Keep u the good work!

  • Good jod Laura and Fireese, keep going you are both doing great things.

  • thank you for doing this Laura!!

it helped me a lot, and its amazing that you can actually learn things from toddlers! you made me interested in sign language and through you and the internet i can now sign (very little but still i can) and its kind of sad cause in Cyprus the signs are different but hopefully one day ill have the time to go and learn the greek one as well and i hope ill be able to learn my kids how to sign as well!!

    thank you

  • I wanna thank you for encouraging sign language and doing it on youtube. Because of you I can understand my daughter at 19 months! Please dont stop updating us about Fireese!

  • I just love what you do. Some day I hope to teach sign language to my children.

    Well done!
