I like his music, but it seems kinda... mechanical to me. When he's doing the chord stuff it's wonderful, but for his single note runs and what not they're very choppy.

Saying that, I couldn't do any better. I couldn't do half the stuff he does probably. Just a thought.

Well, i'm gona tell you this. It takes ALOT of dedication and time. I've been playing guitar for 4-5yrs and practiced for atleast 1-2hrs every singe day. And I just finished learning Eruption by Van Halen. You get a rewarding feeling and accomplishment because not alot people can do what you and it took dedication. But if you put your mind set into it, you can play just as good. Don't give up :)
