  • I think there is nothing else beyond this historial performance on video, perhaps the version with Karajan and the Berliner Ph Orch, but no video in that one.

  • @elgatosucio That is my overall favorite version of Dovrak's Cello Concerto. The second movement esp, is unbelievable.

  • I see colors and feel emotions. Happens only once in a day, sometimes it doesn't happen at all. Thanks

  • The Nazis gathered around Wagner. No...the reason the music of Dvorak moves me is because it has the power to move my heart and soul like no other; dispel for a moment the cheapness of the world today.

  • who is the conductor and orchestra on this....would love to order it

  • @cheffijay Carlo Maria Giulini and London, I think.

  • Why cant people to descent music like this, that's why our generation is doomed i cant stand pop, rap or anything that is opposite to classical music, this is real music.

  • @SrgStorm12 When I was young, I used to say that that sort of music is not music either. I called it Cisum

  • those double stops are absurdly good

  • Legendary

  • There's something about 1:56- 2:33 that reaffirms the spiritual.

  • my grandpa was friends with Rosty. I'm jealous...

  • 偉大なるロストロポービッチのチェロをありがとうございました。

    ドボルザークのチェロ協奏曲はミシャマイスキーのCDしか持っていませんので、とてもいい時間がすごせました。これからもよろしく!!!

  • Oh my goodness this needs MUCH more views. Hip hop is just plain garbage

  • @xbasket12x i agree 100%!!!!

  • its ridicoulus how easily rostprovich is the best cellist of all time...

  • Music like this should inspire all of us beyond our differences. Music is indiscriminate and if we could all just listen and be absorbed, the world would be suitable for living.

  • This segment of this piece is quite possibly the most beautiful music I have ever heard. The interpretation, the care, and the delicacy with which it is played is just wonderful.

  • I had the opportunity to see Mistlav Rostropovich in Toronto when I was a teenager (1983?), and it was an unforgettable experience. Thanks for posting.

  • @rmssca Oh, wow. I'm really jealous. Your so lucky for getting to meet him. I can't imagine it would be anything but unforgettable.

  • With the equally great Maestro Giulini!

  • @rkentburke Equally great?!! You must be out of your mind

  • oops, I meant the ivory at the point, of course

  • Look at how he uses every last millimetre of the bow to make his note, it even touches the ebony at some point. Frightening!

  • 1:55 is beautiful.

  • the end of this movement is absolutely lovely

  • He's definetly better than Yo-Yo Ma....

  • Makes the cello sound so majestic!!

  • i can't listen to this movement with out getting shivers down my body. amazing

  • That horn solo is incredible every time.

  • This is a different world, a different level, a touch with the physical and soul activity between the body, this is an harmony of all our senses, a harmony that bonds together the feelings, and puts us in a cultural and well shaped mind.

Music shapes the civilization, thats why today's shape is DESTRUCTIVE!

Around this music you can't think of any of that.

  • @Wholikeme1 music doesn't project destruction of the collective but the spirit of the individual

  • @justinllalor I never said the collective... when I say civilization I mean that music affects individually but when various people are affected each of them create a destructive environment.

  • Here there are ART and Beauty...

  • Slava plays great in this performance, but the video director who filmed this recordingm Hugo Kach, is totally incompetent!

  • @deuc586 its slav not slava

  • excellent interpretation by Mr. Rostropovich of this extraordinary cello concert, certainly one of the best, and with superb conduction by italian director Giulini

  • Beedone...¡Thanks so much for share this beauty!

    Regards.

  • simply, the best!

  • what fabulous vibrato...he and his cello are one instrument. always in awe and wonder. Empowering every time - for us cellists. His presence is still greatly missed.

  • @pamlae For us tubists too :)

  • Rostropovich has captured the art of creating mesmerizing and incredible melodies, thus making this the most beautiful cello concerto movement I've ever heard in my life.

  • I love it! The whole second movement is amazing.. I'm inspired to learn this for college auditions.

  • same here.. i love this work :)

  • +1

    {.:.}

  • I wonder why there aren't any comments about this wonderful performance?

  • for my part, I'm working while listening to a playlist containing it.

  • Me too! ;)

Altough.. I easily get distracted by the most beautiful parts! :P

  • Ha! I'm even having trouble with surfing the web. My eyes sort of glaze over cause I'm listening so much. I think only REALLY good music will do that.

  • we are speechless must be that ... ;-)
