I am a married woman and we have no children and want none. One of my biggest problems this summer is that we have a couple of swimming pools here in our townhome/condo community and I swim daily. But with more and more unattended children coming to the pool and being let in with no guardian/parent, I don't want to go to the pool. I am not a lifeguard or a daycare. I don't want to be responsible for other's kids. It is the parents' responsibility to watch these kids, NOT MINE!

I am a married woman and we have no children and want none. One of my biggest problems this summer is that we have a couple of swimming pools here in our townhome/condo community and I swim daily. But with more and more unattended children coming to the pool and being let in with no guardian/parent, I don't want to go to the pool. I am not a lifeguard or a daycare. I don't want to be responsible for other's kids. It is the parents' responsibility to watch these kids, NOT MINE!

Also, the human population is so large and diverse that there is no imperative for everybody to pass on their genes. Another thing I want to say is this. I have no kids and I don't want any kids. But society seems to think that if you don't have kids it will be the end of the world. It gives perfect examples of what happens in the work place that involve people who are childless and people who have children. What they are describing is how singlism and being child free work against the people who don't have kids. I've done my research on singlism and being child free and this debate is describing some of the things I've read about.

The comment about covering for parents who need to leave because of their kids is spot on. I don't get the chance to say NO. The boss tells me that Susie has to leave early because of her kid and that i have to make sure both my work and her work is done. I have never seen Susie stay late to make up for it. If I call out then I have to give the person who came in for me my day off. Parents don't have to do that when they call out for their kids.

@moondogjack1978 That would make me so mad! That's a shame you have to put up with that. I would be so ridiculously pissed if this happened to me. Susie would hate me as her boss. I wouldn't let her abuse other employees. She'd either have to start taking that kid to daycare, get a babysitter, or forget her job. It's not anyone else's responsibility. And I would make sure she took her turn covering other people's shifts that they covered for her.
