This particular cast is obviously very capable and professional, but the staging here is very amateur and uninspired. It frustrates me because I love this show, and this look to be a truly wonderful cast but the directors completely dropped the ball.
all of you commenting on here are just amazing! i was actually in the production and let me tell you, by the end of this number we had people crying! including people in the cast. gave me chills every night singing it....sadly i'm not in the vid cause i'm just off camera stage left lol. keep enjoying it everyone!
Wow. This is powerful. I love it! When the coffin came out I gasped cuz it was such a sad moment since it was the guy's lover in there. I've never seen Ragtime but I've read about it to know what it is about and such.
But I have a sweet idea for a really dramatic effect. Have the men carrying the coffin go out into the audience with the man following them slowly.
Is she really in that coffin? Cuz it looks like there is somebody in there since the men place it down slowly.
*Really* well done...! I saw Ragtime on Broadway about 5 or 6 times... I'm glad so many schools and theatres are keeping on of the greatest musicals of all time alive... This is a really powerful scene too... I never saw a musical where the curtain to act 1 came down on the funeral of a lead character!!!
I love Sarah's friend in this video. Not that I don't love ours, I just think the solo is absolutely gorgeous when sung right. And this is definitely sung right.
My school is doing Ragtime right now for our Spring Musical. I play Edgar... But this scene was beautifully carried out and block. Great harmonies. And GREAT Coalhouse. Best emotion ever. Sarah, great voice. 5 stars.

i love you all for this. the local high school permormed this play, and one could not believe how perfect they made the show. actually better then the one in this clip. great overall job nonetheless
