What's the relationship between "Cut & Paste" & making the animation work??!!

I mean, it wouldn't come in my mind that "Cut & Paste" will solve the motion path problem.

I read so many stuff on how to make a motion path animation but i got lost among what i read.

one question after you make a path for a symbol can you make another path for it? so it goes from one path to another? i need to make a sparrow fly up, then out...

Do somebody know, how can i make animation path visable. I am trying to make an animation of pencil that is writing my name. I used a picture of pencil for the object that represents pencil in the animation, and i wrote my name with pencil tool and used it for the path.

It looks good, but i cant find the option which will make the path visibale as the pencil moves.
