I mean, it's like just a piece of the pattern is caught while another parts will be impossible to master, I'm afraid it's not normal... another thing is the time one should take to master a pattern... some guys I know use to practice for like six hours along, and I just look lazy compared to them, I rarely spend more than three hours... which made understand that we must focus a specific exercise, otherwise that will take forever to be learnt. Hope my example is a tip for other beginners ;)
@RammsCarvalho Just stay positive and you'll get it. Some parts are always going to be trickier than others. Just because it's all the same speed throughout doesn't mean it's going to be of equal difficulty. Some shapes are harder than others, so don't worry. Anyway, keep at it and I'm sure you'll get it. Keep on shredding. Have a great day. Cheers...
Here I am bothering again, but while I was here trying to make something of a decent sweeping I came across some observations that are bugging me for a while: one is that the act of practicing repetitively a given pattern has the same effect of repeating a word so that it seem to lose its sense, so when it happens to a scale, it becomes easier to make mistakes and that's sad. Another problem is when only half a scale is correctly learnt whereas another part remains a bitch. is it mind over body?
My major problem always was and still is avoiding to pick when I actually am supposed to do either a hammer-on or a pull-off... have to practice that...
@RammsCarvalho Just stick with it and you'll get it. The key to playing anything at a fast speed is practicing slow and keeping it slow until everything is perfect. Speed will come naturally. Anyway, thanks for dropping by and checking out my video. I hope you enjoyed it. Have a great day. Cheers and SHRED ON!!!

@JoeWhy1 Hey... Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment. My apologizes for the late reply. Anyway, it was probably a few years after I picked up the guitar that I got into Yngwie Malmsteen and sweeping. I do have a ton of instructional videos from all sorts of guitarists who use sweep picking. All it takes is time and patience. hey man i would like you thank you for this awsome vid, i've been practicing this for quite a while an am glad to say i can finally sweep it, soon ill hopefully post a video on it, thanks again man...Cheers
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I HATE these dumb vids; Why is the guitar always under your chin? I swear, people EVER play onstage? 2 million videos of people wearing their guitar like a bra. Might as well duct-tape it to your forehead.
Because I'm sitting down you tool. I'm a classically trained classical guitarist and I find it way more comfortable sitting with my guitar on my left leg. Your hands as a result end up in a much better position. A lot of the greats sit like that when practicing, like George Bellas, Rusty Cooley, Theodore Ziras, etc... If you don't like it then don't watch. By your comment I'm guessing you are some immature little kid. Grow up. Enjoy life Grinch.
Why let something like a guitar being under someones chin piss you off? thats not why your mad, your mad beacause you gave the arpeggio's a try and failed!! poor poor loser!
Hey thanks for the support. I appreciate it a lot. Have a great day and thanks for taking the time to watch my video. I hope you enjoyed it. Cheers...
No problem at all. There isn't any short cut to becoming a great player. Just a lot of hard work and determination. Anyway, I'm glad I could help. Have a great day. Cheers...
A long time. I've very busy so I don't get to practice as much as I'd like. I've been playing guitar for about 18 years. I haven't been sweeping that long, but long enough. Take it slow and focus on your technique and note clarity and go from there. Have a great day. Cheers...
Only when I don't play. If I use a gate then it'll affect my tone a bit. I've used them before and I don't like the sound of my tone with a gate on, so I don't use it. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video aside from that. Have a great day. Cheers...
I didn't take it that way. I was just explaining why I don't use a gate. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Have a great day. Cheers...
get an ehx hum debugger it doesn't affect your tone it just gets rid of any noise/hum no matter what the source of the noise is, you should check it out
Thanks for the tip and for checking my video out. I hope you enjoyed the video. My problem is solved as I got a new amp with a built in noise gate that works great. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers...
I only use my Pod XT Live to tweak my tone a bit as most of my tone comes from my Marshall JMP-1 preamp and Mesa Boogie power amp. Anyway, thanks for checking out my video. If you have any further questions just message me. Have a great day. Cheers...
you are a very good guitarist and i admire your play-style also. are there any specific scales/patterns i should, possibly a song that uses good arpeggios?
Hey there... thanks for the kind words about my playing. Anyway, what kind of arpeggios are you thinking of? If you are talking about 3 string shapes then check out Yngwie, like Demon Driver, Blitzkrieg, Liar, etc... or other players like Katsu Ohta, Kelly Simonz, Joe Stump. Joe also mixes his 3 string shapes up with 5 string shapes. Check out my video of my playing Unleashing the Fury. If you like it I'll send you the tabs. Have a great day. Cheers...
Sorry that there is no tabs. I'm going to try and offer tabs to future videos through request. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video. Have a great day. Cheers...
Hey there.... I do use the same finger for both notes. What you do is fret the first note more on your finger tip then you roll your finger flat to play the 2nd note on the next string. Anytime you have more than 1 note on the same fret of different strings you'll use the rolling barre technique. I should do a video just on that technique as it comes in handy a lot. Anyway, thanks for checking out my video. Have a great day. Cheers....
Thank you for the quick reply. I've tried what you said and it works much better than what I've been doing. Also, your Brothers cover is amazing! Congratulations.
Thanks. I'm glad you liked the lesson. Try jamming along with the video using a pentatonic scale and see what works and what doesn't work. I'm sure some pentatonic runs would sound cool over top of this. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers....
thanks man.. i have another question what is the best scale to use if you're jamming along with a metal music? i'd tried pentatonic scale but it seems its not metal enough...
I'm not a huge fan of pentatonic scales, so I typically don't use them. I tend to stick with natural minor, harmonic minor and their modes. Definitely a lot more possibilities with those scales than a pentatonic and in my opinion a lot cooler sounding. Sorry for the delay in my response. Have a great day. Cheers...
wats the diff between major and minor? (im still tryin to learn my theory) if its something that will take too long to explain its ok dont worry about it loool =]
and thanks for the lesson im definetly learnin it!!!!
Hi there... Thanks for checking out my video. Anyway, it's really hard to explain the difference if you don't know much about theory. Chords or arpeggios are built on the 1st, 3rd and 5th tones of a scale and sometimes 7th, 9th and so on. Anyway, a major chord consists of the 1st or root, a major 3rd and a perfect 5th, where a minor chord consists of the 1st or root, a minor 3rd and a perfect 5th. Example A major = A C# E and A minor = A C E. Anyway, I hope this helps. Cheers...
Yeah it's definitely hard to explain unless you have some understanding of theory. Just keep studying and it'll definitely help out a lot. I use my theory background when it comes to song writing, or even ear training and learning things by ear. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers...
hello" great clean playing" i listen and love most of the peeps you named, and very much Alex Skolnick's style as well..ive been playing for quite some tome and this was actually a good lesson for me as well .ty
Hey thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed my video and I appreciate the kind words about my playing. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers... By the way, Alex is a pretty awesome playerl. He definitely knows his stuff.
Not only has that helped me out in playing arpeggios cleanly, because of the chord pattern, I've learned to play other arpeggio patterns is different postions and keys. Thanx for the vid!!
That was amazing. your patterns are cleeeeeeean. I've been playing for about one year now and i'm using a fender stratocaster which cost me about $200. I was wondering what the difference is between mine and the other fenders that are more expensive. I figured i'd ask you cuz i noticed that you have fenders only on your videos. & you kinda play like malmsteen. haha
Wow. Thanks for the kind words and great comment. I appreciate it. Anyway, right now I have 2 strats, 1 DC Custom guitar which is like an Yngwie strat but way better, a Custom Carvin DC727 - 7string and a Yamaha (Ibanez style) guitar. I'm also waiting for my Dean RC7x Rusty Cooley guitar to come in. Anyway, there will be a big difference in sound and tone. I notice this a lot as a lot of my students will have cheaper strats that don't have the full tone mine do. There will also be a....
difference in feel and playability. It's kind of hard to explain, so if you have a chance go into a guitar store and play a higher end strat. I personally like the 57 re-issue strats the best. Anyway, thanks again for the comment. Have a great day. Cheers...
Hey bud. Thanks for the great comment and kind words about my playing. Who do you like to listen to? I'm a huge fan of Yngwie, Joe Stump, George Bellas, Marco Ferrigno, Katsu Ohta, Rusty Cooley, Tom Hess, Dean Cascione, and guys like that. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers...
Hey man;) is that your new guitar? i remember commenting on another vid of yours and you said you were expecting a new guitar. Cause i liked the one you had with the scalloped frets. Anyways. Great lesson thanks. =)
Hey there. This is not my new guitar. I just got a DC Custom guitar by Dean Cascione, who is an awesome luthier and guitarist. I've been extremely busy, but I'll try to get some new videos up soon with my new DC. Have a great day and thanks for the great support. Cheers...
Would be great, and i totaly agree ;) He is great. I bet it was expensive?hehe, but once again. great lesson. Im just watching it over and over:P but sweeping is hard though. takes alot of practice!
Dean is amazing and he builds world class guitars. Just ask the great Joe Stump or George Bellas as they both have guitars by Dean. Do you know George Bellas? When Dean built George's guitar he had enough wood from the same piece of wood to build 2 necks. George got one and I got the other neck, which I think is cool as I'm a huge Bellas fan. Anyway, the guitar was $3000 US. Pricey but well worth it. Anyway, keep practicing and you'll get it. Have a great day. Cheers...
Wow, im so lucky to have found you here on youtube. Consider me subscribed! One quick question. I've been playing for roughly 3 years, but i want to take the guitar seriously now. How much do you practice a day? Or what's the most you would practice? Thanks a bunch.
Hey man. Thanks for the comment and for checking out my video. I'm very busy as I work 2 jobs. Most weeks I work about 50 hours/week, plus I'm married with a baby on the way. I practice as much as I can, but some days I don't touch my guitars. :( When I do practice I practice between 1-3+ hours a day. The key is to be focused on what you want to accomplish. Anyway, have a great day. Talk to you later. Cheers...
Try to find about 30-45 minutes a day and work on specific things that need improvement in your playing. Don't spend the little time you have on something you can play easily. Work on the weaknesses and you'll find that you'll continue to improve even with 30-45 minutes a day. Have a great day. Cheers....
My guitars run into a Pod XT Live. From there it goes to my Marshall JMP1 Preamp then into my Mesa Boogie Simul 295 Stereo power amp and finally into my Marshall 4x12 cab. Hope you enjoyed the video. Have a great day. Cheers...
Hey thanks for the kind words. Anyway, thanks for checking out my video. I'll try to get some new videos posted soon. I've been super busy lately. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers...
Thanks for the kind words about my playing. Anyway, I use a medium to high action on my guitars. It's kind of hard to explain why but I do. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers...
Hey. Unfortunately I don't have it tabbed out. If you watch it a few more times you can tab it out yourself. If you really want me to tab it still I will. Anyway, thanks for checking out my video. Have a great day. Cheers...
There's nothing wrong with my rig. I use a ton of overdrive on my amp, so it's just the hum. Combine that with single coil pickups while sitting close to my amp and computer and you get a pretty annoying hum when not playing or sounding a note. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video otherwise. Have a great day. Cheers...
From the message you sent me you have it just about right. You are just missing the first note in the 2nd part. You have to play the 12th fret E then pull off to the C. As a result you are playing 2 Es in a row. The last note in the first part and the first note in the second part. Anyway, just watch the video a few more times and you'll get the pattern. I'm going to be adding on screen tabs to my future videos. Cheers...
On this video I ran my guitar into my Pod XT Live then directly into my Mesa Boogie Power Amp and Marshall Pre-Amp. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed it. Have a great day. Cheers...

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I HATE these dumb vids; Why is the guitar always under your chin? I swear, people EVER play onstage? 2 million videos of people wearing their guitar like a bra. Might as well duct-tape it to your forehead.
Thunderklok 2 years ago
Because I'm sitting down you tool. I'm a classically trained classical guitarist and I find it way more comfortable sitting with my guitar on my left leg. Your hands as a result end up in a much better position. A lot of the greats sit like that when practicing, like George Bellas, Rusty Cooley, Theodore Ziras, etc... If you don't like it then don't watch. By your comment I'm guessing you are some immature little kid. Grow up. Enjoy life Grinch.

Thunderklok is definitely a immature "tool" who indeed doesn't appreciate a helpful video when he sees one.

how long did it take you to sweep that clean
shadowstorm274 2 years ago
A long time. I've very busy so I don't get to practice as much as I'd like. I've been playing guitar for about 18 years. I haven't been sweeping that long, but long enough. Take it slow and focus on your technique and note clarity and go from there. Have a great day. Cheers...

it sounds like u have a lot of noise... get a gate!
jasonroxorz 2 years ago
Only when I don't play. If I use a gate then it'll affect my tone a bit. I've used them before and I don't like the sound of my tone with a gate on, so I don't use it. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video aside from that. Have a great day. Cheers...

How do I get the sound of your guitar? I have a Line 6 amp but nothing sounds like your guitar tone.
Outcrowddude 2 years ago

you are a very good guitarist and i admire your play-style also. are there any specific scales/patterns i should, possibly a song that uses good arpeggios?
bml516 2 years ago
Hey there... thanks for the kind words about my playing. Anyway, what kind of arpeggios are you thinking of? If you are talking about 3 string shapes then check out Yngwie, like Demon Driver, Blitzkrieg, Liar, etc... or other players like Katsu Ohta, Kelly Simonz, Joe Stump. Joe also mixes his 3 string shapes up with 5 string shapes. Check out my video of my playing Unleashing the Fury. If you like it I'll send you the tabs. Have a great day. Cheers...

from 42 seconds to 43 seconds for those 2 notes are you using the same finger?
Thanks for the lesson.
TysonMS 2 years ago
Hey there.... I do use the same finger for both notes. What you do is fret the first note more on your finger tip then you roll your finger flat to play the 2nd note on the next string. Anytime you have more than 1 note on the same fret of different strings you'll use the rolling barre technique. I should do a video just on that technique as it comes in handy a lot. Anyway, thanks for checking out my video. Have a great day. Cheers....

nice lesson man... can you use this arpeggio over a pentatonic scale?
Jinkzy123 2 years ago
Thanks. I'm glad you liked the lesson. Try jamming along with the video using a pentatonic scale and see what works and what doesn't work. I'm sure some pentatonic runs would sound cool over top of this. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers....
NeoClassicalFan 2 years ago
thanks man.. i have another question what is the best scale to use if you're jamming along with a metal music? i'd tried pentatonic scale but it seems its not metal enough...
Jinkzy123 2 years ago
I'm not a huge fan of pentatonic scales, so I typically don't use them. I tend to stick with natural minor, harmonic minor and their modes. Definitely a lot more possibilities with those scales than a pentatonic and in my opinion a lot cooler sounding. Sorry for the delay in my response. Have a great day. Cheers...

wats the diff between major and minor? (im still tryin to learn my theory) if its something that will take too long to explain its ok dont worry about it loool =]
and thanks for the lesson im definetly learnin it!!!!
N1nja32 2 years ago
Cheers...
NeoClassicalFan 2 years ago
i understood a little bit of it... thanks ill keep studying =)
N1nja32 2 years ago
Yeah it's definitely hard to explain unless you have some understanding of theory. Just keep studying and it'll definitely help out a lot. I use my theory background when it comes to song writing, or even ear training and learning things by ear. Anyway, have a great day. Cheers...

NeoClassicalFan 2 years ago
difference in feel and playability. It's kind of hard to explain, so if you have a chance go into a guitar store and play a higher end strat. I personally like the 57 re-issue strats the best. Anyway, thanks again for the comment. Have a great day. Cheers...

Would be great, and i totaly agree ;) He is great. I bet it was expensive?hehe, but once again. great lesson. Im just watching it over and over:P but sweeping is hard though. takes alot of practice!
identity911 2 years ago

Thanks a bunch.
musicguitar 2 years ago
Cheers...

and if your younger like me and only have to worry about school then you should go for as much as you can, like 5 hours
Jake3560 2 years ago
Im in college, so until I graduate in December I don't have much time to practice :(
musicguitar 2 years ago
I'm sorry bro. Yeah I'm trying to get as much done as possible before I graduate high school, but I'm a freshman, so I have more time.
Jake3560 2 years ago
Try to find about 30-45 minutes a day and work on specific things that need improvement in your playing. Don't spend the little time you have on something you can play easily. Work on the weaknesses and you'll find that you'll continue to improve even with 30-45 minutes a day. Have a great day. Cheers....

5 hours a day is fine and dandy as long as you are focused and work on specific things instead of just noodling around. Anyway, rock on. Cheers...

what the hell is that extra noise when you are switching notes when you are going slow?
sounds like something is wrong with your rig man..
asusminor 3 years ago
There's nothing wrong with my rig. I use a ton of overdrive on my amp, so it's just the hum. Combine that with single coil pickups while sitting close to my amp and computer and you get a pretty annoying hum when not playing or sounding a note. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the video otherwise. JUST WONDERING IF THATS RIGHT AND HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU REPEAT EACH:
leehayesmusic 3 years ago
From the message you sent me you have it just about right. You are just missing the first note in the 2nd part. You have to play the 12th fret E then pull off to the C. As a result you are playing 2 Es in a row. The last note in the first part and the first note in the second part. Anyway, just watch the video a few more times and you'll get the pattern.
