Yes you can. You have to disable raid in the bios and use a software raid like dmraid in Linux itself. Or you can use the Fakeraid controller for the install itself and use a normal IDE disk for the bootrecord so GRUB can find it. But the integrated raid-controllers on the mainboard are FakeRaid. They SUCK!
If you want real raid you have to use a SCSI card like Adpatec 2120s u320. This SCSI card also fits in a PCI-slot. Linux will install with no problems on it.
The integrated raid controllers on the mainboard does not the calculating itself but it must be done in the OS itself. That's why it fails with a normal install with Linux. This controllers sucks. Linux(Grub) cannot find the Master Boot Record so that's why you need something like dmraid to configure.
You have to get a real SCSI controller if you want to use real raid.
Failed crc uploaded it 3 times 18 hrs a crack, actually it is on the net, the forum members have been snagging it. I have not written a webpage for it yet.
Sure makes my old Gutsy Gibbon box running under a Socket 462 Sempron look as if it's bogged down in molasses. But I do have an nVIDIA FX5200 video so I could spruce it up with Compiz Fusion.
