I would tend to agree with you, this is more or less what happened in the 13RDP and I doubt the 2REP was any different.
On the other hand I was in the army a long time ago and left more or less at the time they created the COS... so maybe they merged CRAP and GPC: which does not make sense to me from what I know of both kind of units and their purpose.
Only GCP got HALO qualled before, not all of 2 REP. GCP also gets a higher level of training. DIN gets airborne and closed circuit qualled. Some considered them Spec Ops before.
CRAP hasn't exsisted in the Legion for years. Its called GCP now. And the kayak pic and the wetsuit pics are the former 6REG, 1ere CIE with DIN. Nice transitions though
Well the FFL is basically a para shock force. You'll notice that almost all of them wear para wings on the right side above the breast pocket. It seems as if all legionnaires do para training at some point in their careers. Some of these guys even do their own spez ops training, known as LES CRAP. Its their counter terrorist unit. but basically, they are are a self relaint force, who has all services and support units within thier own corps.
Can anyone answer a question. Are those old photos or are these guys really still using round parachutes? Most videos on GCP are round shoots rather then new modern RAM air ones. Are the old pics or is that what they use?
Yup round ones for low altitude (~80 meters) jumping : thats how the 2Rep put the whole regiment on the ground in couple of minutes O_O
I never did or saw this kind of jump performed but the person that told me so did that in Kolwezi, he was the first man to jump there (and is (was?) a general in the legion)
pour mon Père ... commando dans la légion étrangère , chez les paras , je l'adore maintenant , mais j'en ai beaucoup souffert avant parce qu'il était très dur , mais maintenant je comprends mieux ... pardon de ne pas avoir compris ton message .

@Klvavite: Um yes, there are images of 6 REG in this presentation:
1m22sec: 6REG, 1 CIE beach mine clearing
1m32sec: 6REG DINOPS in Kayak
2m32sec: 6REG, 1 CIE providing security for mine clearing
2m42sec: 6REG 1CIE boat patrol
All these pictures were taken by photographer Jose Nicolas at Lac de Codolet near the 6 REG (now called 1 REG) base.
You guys that have no idea what you are talking about, don't chime in as you have nothing to add.

All legionnaires are required to take parachute jumping training.
shargor 3 years ago
Naw, I think still its just 2REP and DIN do jump school. There are a few exceptions though, but the standard legionnaire does not go to jump school.

PARATROOPER88 3 years ago
The Foreign Legion is not a special forces unit, it is a Shock/Assault brigade.
The French special forces (COS)are made with two other units of the French armies :
The 1rst Marine Infantry Paratroopers Regiment
The 13th Dragoon Paratroopers Regiment
Plus The 10th Marine Commandos Unit
And some other specialised units
The Foreign Legion is a well trained and efficient combat corps, but the real tough guys are in the COS = Commandement des Operations Speciales.
fredlelyonnais 3 years ago
adcsoa 3 years ago
excuse me, but it seems to me that the last war that any French troops really got involved with, was the Algerian war.
So how come that I seem to remember forever rescuing French regular troups in trouble?
There was no COS whatsoever, only scared conscripts getting rescued by legionnaires.
Why don't you smarten up your uniforms to start with, and try to look like soldiers at least. I was there and I saw you, asshole.
