  • Just a question here.

Anyone know the name of this relaxing song? What band/group plays this etc?

    Thanks in advance

  • At some hours in the daytime, that touch control panel must reflect the sunlight and would interfere with driving.

  • y r your knees in the dash board?

  • We need a 5000 mile car!

  • @eujeeves less than 0.00000001% of people on the planet would have a use for that.

  • @Hirotoro4692 say the oil companies?

  • It can cost ~40.000 - 50.000€ / 57.000$

  • @derblubbimspinat WOW i have to buy one i don't know that they are gonna be so cheap ! GO ELECTRIC,GO TESLA !

  • How is Electricity produced? At the coal fired plants, the nuclear (Waste) plants, and fossil-fuel burning power generation plants.

These cars add pollution & tremendous amounts of electricity that the world is already using & paying for.

These cars use Lithium-ion. Lithium-ion batteries are expensive for a reason. The resources to produce them are limited and the longevity is even more limited. Which means they need constant replacement.

  • @halcyon0830 just a fyi,,

it takes SHITLOADS of electricity to make one gallon of gas

than it does to equivalently drive that distance in an electric vehicle.

    your statement is false.

  • Why is ol' boy sitting so close to the steering wheel?

  • s stands for sexy

  • HOW MUCHO???

  • @2011maxaguilar 50 grand base price

  • the screen is way to big and overdone, and to much of a flat surface that ruins the rest of the design from the interior. Men do like real buttons and switches, so this

large flatpanel should schrink to a normal widescreen, and fit some buttons under it.

That wil look alot better than this fragile but very very very very expencive looking screen.

  • @3DPeter please speak for yourself. Don't you dare tell me 'men like real buttons' .. Your personal opinion is not 'men'

  • @Hirotoro4692

Sorry, my mistake, i should have said REAL men! Not pussy's like you.

  • @Hirotoro4692

Real men also prefer good shaped women with buttons, and not flat ones.

  • I hope they redesign the user interface of the touch screen, and use a matte screen too. Currently, it's quite terrible looking.

  • Remove that god awful touch screen, and maybe you'd get a few more KM's out of each charge! ;-)

  • @ROONTANG What about you simply turn it off? Touch screens like these probably only take a tiny bit out of the charge, butthurt.

  • @TrickyEmu The sarcasm of my last message appears to have eluded you.

  • @ROONTANG . You need to use hte sarcasm tag: /sarcasm

  • However, his hand ain't going in his back pocket for gas money

  • Anyone else realize the driver is way to forward on the seat, his leg is touching the interior of the car, lol.

  • I hope they change the glare on the center nav unit. It looks bad.

  • Would like it without the stupid touchscreen junk.

  • @UberWagen I agree.

  • PLEASE FOR GODS SAKE MAKE MORE LEG ROOM, i'll buy it if its longer.

  • I hope they abandon the whole ridiculous touch screen idea before the production.

  • It's hard to see ANYTHING on that screen, and if you want to do something, you will have to completely take your eyes away from the road.

  • @halcyon0830 ofc its hard to see the touch screen when you're not sitting in the car.

  • The Extreme Glare on that Screen Console will make you crash the car.

  • It has a touch screen?

Yeah, so you have to constantly take your eyes off the road every time you want to set something...

Don't forget that you can feel real dials and buttons.

  • It's amazing how visible the screen is even under that amount of sunlight.

  • Tesla's got the right idea. Build electric cars that people WANT to buy. No compromises. Brilliant! :-)

  • The glass of the dashboard is too much reflective. This issue got to get better.

  • The best looking dash, the stitching is really great, probably my favorite part of the vehicle. If they keep it like this through production it will be fine. As long as the lame grad students and marketing people stay away from the car, it will be a hit.

  • The best looking dash, the stitching is really great, probably my favorite part of the vehicle. If they keep it like this through production it will be fine. As long as the lame grad students and marketing people stay away from the car, it will be a hit. For the people worrying about touching the dash? and fingerprints on the screen, wow...find something else to complain about, you don't even own the car yet and you're worried about the dirt you're leaving on it.

  • It looks like a very small space for the driver's legs. I would love to see the car up close.

  • Why does production only start in 2012?

I need one now, roadster doesnt quite bring the bacon home

  • That dash looks AMAZING! But it's gonna be a bitch to clean haha... :P

  • I must say that as much as I like this vehicle, I'm not that fond of the Idea of having fingerprints all over my dashboard.

  • Comment removed

  • super E-auto

  • buy one before "THE TEA PARTY"BAN every electric car in US..

  • I'd make it check for fingerprints before driving it.

Just sayin' it would be pretty cool!

  • You can tell the screen glare is a big issue

  • That "leather" looks like suede. Not that its a bad thing, its just kinda weird. I want the normal napa leather like in my A4.

  • That is sick, however my diesel jetta that's nearly 12 years old now can go over 700 miles on a 14 gallon tank, and we get the fuel for free from old grease restaurants. So I'm not down with the electric stuff quite yet...

  • I love this car!!!

  • i want one, and a solar/wind power recharge station

  • now all im waiting before i go to electric, is for a truck that i will be able to tow my boat with

  • it looks like a fuckn lambo from the future i want one of those free fuckn driving when i get some solar power on tha house come on we still hanging on economy come back up nigga

  • hope they can be ordered with aluminium panels in the cabin too, because this leather on leather stuff looks weird and rather ugly

  • an ipod you can drive.

  • They need new leather on the dash. It's pretty ugly.

  • @thepibbxman leather isnt green.

  • @GrandArchitect3D Ok... I just said it was ugly not green.

  • So many gimmicks thrown into a car...

  • @CJAEY and yet it's gimmicks that have become standard features, sometimes even minimum features, on many cars today

  • the console will be useless in direct sunlight.

  • im so glad i invested in tesla's stock now

  • That's cool if it never gets cold. Gloves and touchscreen dash won't mix well.

  • @ThunderAppeal

Those darn scientists with their inconvenient facts and figures... noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2010/20100715_globalstats.html

I know... NOAA must be part of the cabal scheming to fool us all into believing the planet is getting warmer. Let's for a second assume man-caused global warming is a lie. Do you see any national security and domestic economic benefits related to increased domestic production of energy (unless you are from a country that is a (net) oil exporter)?

  • @utoobfancjo Yes, because all of a sudden carbon dioxide will cease to exist if we stop using internal combustion engines. Oh wait.....where else does carbon dioxide come from genius? Yeah, that darn scientific *FACT* always gets in the way of so-called 'statistics.' You must have been born last week considering that you have no idea what Climate Gate is and you dont know where carbon dioxide comes from.

  • @utoobfancjo Try putting up urls that actually work to back up your made up facts you halfwit.

  • @ThunderAppeal

    Another cogent argument from ThunderAppeal!!!!

Yotube doesn't like URLs. Just Google "NOAA: June, April to June, and Year-to-Date Global Temperatures are Warmest on Record".

*Of course* carbon emissions won't cease; but we can slow the growth (or even better reduce them).

You still haven't addressed my national security / economic benefit comment. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You were busy calling me names. :)

Cheers... I am done with you.

  • Comment removed

  • @utoobfancjo Please elaborate what you mean by 'national security'? And what that has to do with oil? You have so far not provided *any* coherent facts at all whatsoever to back up *any* of the idiotic claims you have made. So yes, you have earned being called names because you *are* an idiot.

The 'warmest on record'? Record of what? 10 years? Wow!!!! And the earth is how many years old? Yeah, you are indeed an idiot.

  • Comment removed

  • Simply Amazing! This is only the first version....just like the first ipod i cant help but wonder what the next generations will look like!!

  • @itloads i agree, Tesla is such a innovative company i mean look at the Roadster we all thought a 100% electric sports car was great, and now this have is masterpiece so yes i hope they people can back Tesla and they can continue to make cars that we couldnt even imagine

  • @gstreetfee Its a revolution. 40 Years ago if you told someone about a wireless telephone they wouldnt believe its possible. Is it now the time to say that in the future all cars are going to be electric?? No one will believe you!

  • That touch screen would drive me nuts! Give me dials and buttons please so I don't have to look at the damned screen to change anything.

  • What the hell, man? You comment on how nice the leather interior is, then says it's not good for environment? I'm sure they'll customize a set of hemp seats just for you. :)

  • @bondage2012 the guy said it was vegetable tanned and that most use chrome to tan, then the other guy responded that it was bad for the environment @ the chrome...

  • how much space is in the front? better question how big is this guy?

  • how much is for the car

  • Cramp leg room. The driver knees was at the dashbaord

  • sick feat ...luv it

  • Lithium is plentiful, we won't be running out for a while. Electricity can be cleanly produced, gas can't. Don't listen to anyone who makes it sound like gas engines are just as clean as electric, they are talking out of their ass and don't have a clue. Batteries on these cars are promised to last 100,000 miles. What happens when they are spent? You can salvage the lithium and recycle them.

  • @trekgeek1 Tesla even provides for the recycling of the batteris.

  • @halcyon0830 Potentially good point on the batteries; I am not sure if the costs are high because of limited resources or because volumes are not yet high enough to justify the capital investments to make batteries more cheaply. In general, I definitely agree that battery technology needs to improve. And it will, as the demand increases (driven in part by electric vehicles).

  • @halcyon0830 As it relates to the source of energy to charge the battery, I specifically purchase clean / renewable energy from PG&E so the electrons will not come from coal (perhaps Nuclear... but that is ok by me). Even if I didn't purchase clean energy, the efficiencies of coal power plants pollute *much* less than internal combustion engines in cars. Plus, energy in California (where I live) is already very clean: 20% comes from coal, 30% from Natural gas. The rest is renewable / nuclear.

  • Comment removed

  • @ThunderAppeal

Check out "Electric_car" in Wikipedia ("Carbon dioxide emissions" section). Electric cars offer 50% CO2 emissions savings using the US grid which is 45% coal-based. CO2 emission savings will increase as energy production becomes cleaner in the US (like California). And if one doesn't believe carbon emissions are a major cause of global warming (??!!), EVs can help with both national security by keeping energy profits domestic? I don't see a drawback with EVs.

  • Comment removed

  • @utoobfancjo lots of that also coming from Canadian Hydro! In BC 70% of electricity is Hydro and 98% in Quebec. You must follow suit!

  • @halcyon0830 If your that concerned about it, how about just installing solar panels on your house? The governments giving tax rebates on them.

  • @halcyon0830 I can't stand people trying to blackwash electric cars. It's such a shame. You're evil people, you know that? People like you don' care about the children with asthma (caused by combustion-cars) suffering from the smog in California. Shame on you.

  • @halcyon0830 every element there is is limited . i could say that water is limited but for anyone who has been to the beach knows that even though water in a finite resource three is so much that its nothing to worry about

  • @halcyon0830 There's a term called: well-to-wheel efficiency. Go look that up.

  • @halcyon0830 Or electricity can be produced by solar panels

  • @halcyon0830 please do some research, oh and when doing your research don't skip over the info that you are biased against, thanks.

  • @halcyon0830 Why has this comment received so many negative votes? It's basically all verifiable fact. The only good thing about electric is it eliminates the point source of pollution, and instead shifts it to the power plant. This is NOT saving the planet at all, but it is arguable better this way so efforts can be shifted to reduce pollution at one or two points, rather than millions of points (cars).

  • @cptstubing that's not the only good thing about electric cars.

They're quieter - and don't give me that myth about them being so quiet pedestrians are at risk - this only truly applies to car parks and speeds where road and wind noises are at a minimum.

They don't have gears so driving overall is a smoother and less stressful experience.

Torque is immediate and consistent at all speeds.

  • @halcyon0830 the batteries last 10 years........

  • @floridabowhunter fiction

  • @halcyon0830 Yet more myths spread by about electric cars. Le sigh.

Modern Lithium cars have a battery longevity of 7-10 years. Not good enough? After that, batteries can be used as a backup home power supply, or swapped for a fresh one; the old ones are recycled/used for other purposes.

Electricity produced at the power plants is TREMENDOUSLY more efficient than an individual ICE. Without even counting the fact oil is drilled, REFINED (using guess what, electricity!) then transported also

  • @halcyon0830 Therefore, your comment was hidden for a reason. It's full of myths that you are only perpetuating because you decided to sound so confident having... failed to do some research?

  • This car seems like a better deal deal than the roadster. It will outsell the roadster even.

  • The model S will cost $50,000. Not including tax breaks from both the federal government and the state government.

  • So hot. Come on Tesla we need this in the UK so bad.

  • i heard the s coupe will cost around $60,000

  • i heard it will cost around $60,000 for the s coupe

  • after i finish my studies, i know which car i will buy ....

  • now thats a car that makes me say fuck gas and diesel

  • NOt to metion its going to be less than 50 grand.

  • @xdragosx driving gas free? there's an app for that.

  • put a nuclear reactor in that and i would own one.

  • Hot car but the driver's legs look cramped?

  • fuck america you went and made a great looking car that people want to buy

  • touch screen?.. is it safer to operate while driving? i fucking hate to use the mobile with touch screen wen driving. find the regular ones easier to use

  • btw how is the electronical system of the car... Is it reliable in long time? I just cant trust a car fully electronical , but this car is the most silent and easy to drive one I think, which is awsome

  • God, I love this car. Vegetable tan leather is very expensive.

  • the touch screen is OPTIONAL people

  • who the hell would say no the the touch screen?

  • Regardless of the points made by ksmoker27 and rikvalos, I do believe Tesla should build it as fast as they can. The car is AWESOME.

  • what is the date? late 2011?

and the distribution to the turkey will be what in 2015 or sth :S

  • @wewerebrothers

  • Do they have alternator? :P

  • When the car hits the market late 2011 it will have a force feedback LCD touch screen with a less reflective surface.

I wouldn't be surprised if they use OLED instead since they consume way less power which would make it easier on the batteries and have a sharper picture.

  • I agree, the price of oled's drops like 40% yearly now that the technology is begining to mature.

  • Whatever man, focus on the road when you have to focus on the road. Work the touch screen when you are at a red light, stopped on the side of a road or in a parking light, or when you are in traffic. It's really no big deal.

  • Touchscreen = VERY BAD IDEA. How do you suppose to operate it without taking eyes of the road

  • Buttons= VERY BAD IDEA. How do you suppose operate it without taking eyes of the road. Touch screen i think is an excellent move. Saves cash and it's very flexible. A downside here though is that they have a very reflective one. Nightmare to use when sun shines.

  • WRONG buttons EVEN A BLIND PERSON CAN USE! Are you saying buttons are harder to use without taking your eyes of the road? Think about it. Once you know the feel of the button you will know how to press it without looking! I do it all the time by cahnging my radio preset.

TOUCHSCREEN IN THE CAR = ACCIDENT

  • How often do you use the radio/AC without looking at it? You have to be the first. How could a blind person use it? Last time i checked there werent any "blind-marks" on the buttons surfaces. He just gotta press and hope that it was the right one.

  • every stereo I had always had marks on buttons for "blind" use. Look closely and you will notice them.

  • Why is a blind person driving?

  • @petercoffin..I was going through pplz arguments but I didnt get this...you are perfect. why is a blind driving...LOL

  • Fail. MORONS ON THE ROAD=ACCIDENT

  • Why have anything that can distract you from the road in the car? Windows, powerlocks... You might have to take your eyes off the road to use that right? Let's get rid of that, using that will distract you from the road. Oh my God, we should probably get rid of radios for sure... STOP, why don't we wait a minute and use some common sense? Someone who doesn't know how to apply any common sense to dangerous situations... probably won't be able to buy this car anyway.

  • That is just silly but DESIGN needs to be ergonomic! There is not excuse for that.

  • @rikavalos right on rika!! lol What I'll have on my Tesla is clear stickers positioned on controls that stay the same -- once you have your screen 'decked out', you could place small, clear, textured, flexable stickers for your buttons. Also, in time it'll become second nature for the 'reach' ;) Things are still being dialed up w/this car OLED's and more are on the way.

    What an exciting car, killer

oh BTW my/that idea is pat. pending... lol Remember me when they do that on the cars!!! ;)

  • They can use a matte screen and jack up the brightness. The energy consumption for the extra brightness would be insignificant relative to the size of the battery.

What they also need is some kind of tactile feedback. Perhaps a pulse of vibration accompanied by a clicking sound to indicate a button has been pressed.

  • It's not like it's a gravitational force pulling your eyes toward it.

  • I love the touch screen, but KypHem has a valid point. Every well designed dashboard that I've ever used can easily be navigated without taking one's eyes of the road. Not every dash is well engineered, but once you own a car that has a dash with some thought put into it, it can be very frustrating to return to one that requires you to look down to find the buttons.

  • too bad that they dont have the charging station around the city, with this car we cant have a trip that is over 240KM range

  • why don't you throw in them solar panels that does 320watts it's more then enough to recharge it.

  • if they can invent white solar panels, i will buy it. Also i promise GM,Toyota,Honda,BMW,etc will be gone~~

  • What they'll be gone after Tesla?

  • idk

  • wonder how much does if cost for monthly electic payment? $50 thousands and the car can go 480km with 45min charge and topspead 208km/hr and 0-100km only 5.6sec

  • 50 000 $

  • how much this gonna cost?

  • Starts at $49,900. On the website

  • I want this car ! now !!!!!!!!!

  • apparently it fits 5 adults and 2 kids. where the hell do the kids go?

  • in the trunk :D

  • Yes, that's right (seriously). There are two foldaway-seats in there!

  • He'll lose his knees in a crash. Yikes!

  • I can not wait for this to go into production!, I'm already saving up!

  • The music sounds like some Vietnamese style music.
