DCromo09, I am a Davidson donor who may have to pay higher taxes.
My wife & I are blessed to earn about $250,000. We pay twice as much tax as the average American earns. Next, we handle our house payment, car payments, two student loan payments, retirement savings, & monthly expenses. A little is left over discretionary use.
We are willing Ne Ultra donors. After a tax increase, discretionary Davidson donations must end.
A tax increase hurts the college you & I both love.
On behalf of the entire college, thank you for everything you have done and continue to do for the college; sincerely, thank you.
I do not think that Obama's first act will be to repeal the Bush Tax Cuts; at this time in the economy, it would be suicide. I also remain doubtful of his imposing capital gains taxes. Tax levels may return to the Clinton era rates.
One thing I would implore both sides to bear in mind is that politicians say a lot to get elected; we will see what actually happens.
I find it ironic how students from Davidson College, students who probably come from wealth or will obtain wealth, have no problem supporting a candidate who plans on heavily taxing the upper class.
Perhaps it is Davidson's desire for a more egalitarian society that pushes us to vote for a candidate who will best serve the country. Perhaps a strong sense of "to whom much is given, much is expected" is what encourages us to think not just of our own pocketbooks, but the well being of others, not in a holier-than-thou sense, but a true, pure desire for an equal opportunity for everyone, regardless of economic ability.
