Is DRM the end of PC gaming?

Gamers everywhere need to take a stand against this nonsense. If its got DRM, dont buy it no matter how bad you wan to play it. They are starting to do this kind of thing on consoles, too. I refuse to buy a game that requires an online pass to access some of the content. We need to stand up for our rights as consumers and let those greedy companies know that this sort of thing will not be profitable for them in the long run.

Have to agree with you man, all this DRM bullshit accomplishes is driving off legitimate customers. It's just not worth the hastle, these games are NOT that good. Most of them fail to justify their $60 price tag to begin with, and now this horseshit. Ironically, some of the best games (Fallout # for example) don't have any copy protect whatsoever, not even a disc check, and they do just fine. The funniest thing is, it still doesn't stop pirates, they bypassed SH5 in one day.

The reason that games are not in stores very much anymore is because of the growth of digital distribution (such as Direct2Drive or Steam). DRM is also not always bad, DRM in Steamworks games mean that sure you need steam installed to play it, but you can download it on any computer, it automatically updates the game for you, and you can de-fragment the game itself via Steam. So in a way, Steam is saving PC Gaming! Unfortunately, most other DRM solutions don't have any pros to it like Steam does

These anti-piracy methods are just driving people to download pirated copies. These big pc gaming companies are working both sides of the line and getting away with it. So here is what I say; every gamer who has been troubled by these unaffective anitpiracy devices; gets to kick the ceos and devolpers of said devices, In the balls.

securom is horseshit, it does not stop pirates at all and it spies on legitimate buyers, it gets your pc fucked up, its fucking horseshit, i cant even count the number of games i havent bought (when i otherwise totally and absolutly would) because of this piece of shit, i am no pirate, i dont download them, and never will (except steam of course) but i refuse to buy the fuckign game and get fucking malware on my fucking computer, and dont even try to say its not malware cuz its a fuckin rootkit.

Do a Google search for SecuROM trigger functions. If you ever buy a game that is so buggy you can't complete it, it may not be that the developers wrote buggy game code. It may be the fault of SecuROM trigger functions. They're meant to mess up cracked and pirated versions of games, but they mess up legitimate uncracked games too. They want people to blame pirated versions for being buggy. But the legit versions can get the same bugs if their CD drive or Internet connection is a hair off spec.

I can explain that for you my friend, a No CD crack is a file or patch that is applied to a game of your choice.

It allows you to play the game without the DVD or CD,thus effectively it fools the computer into thinking you own the game.

Some games like Doom 3,the witcher and quake 4 all have these No DVD/CD cracks included in the latest patches..but mainly this is an illegal technique to play a game for free.

There have been discussion about dying PC gaming for 10 years and it is still alive and kicking so I dont see reason it why I would decline, some people just dont like console gaming. Shame that nowadays piracy is major problem and companies must invent something like secuROM to secure their income.

I used to be big on PC gaming, but I haven't bought a title for PC in 2 years now. I don't see that changing in the future either, with the possible exception of Diablo 3.

PC gaming has been living on borrowed time for quite a while now. It's not just DRM that killed it; it's piracy, it's the narrow selection of games/genres that are popular for PC and it's the fact that the PC is simply not a gaming machine. PC's are multi function machines and in the long run there was no way they could compete with hardware that is dedicated exclusively to gaming (consoles). Now that gaming online via console is easy to do, the PC has lost the only real advantage it ever had.

Bah. Gaming all but began on PC. It was pretty consistent that PC outranked gaming consoles. It's just that PC is typically more expensive, has more compatibility issues (system requirements) and upgrading for some people sounds as daunting as it does expensive. There's also the fact that there are classes called "computer literacy."

Gaming consoles are extremely user friendly, cheaper, and more straightforward. I do agree, they lost the only advantage they ever had.

That was a long time ago, now all the best games are developed for consoles and the console market is much bigger and has a much wider variety of titles and genres.

I studied Computer Science in college and I've worked in IT most of my life. If PC gaming lost someone like me, that shows you far it has fallen.

Yeah, it lost me, too.  I prefer to game on the xbox. I still know people who swear up and down about the supremacy of the PC, despite the DRM... Not to say they'd rather do without... Never turned a blind eye to the possibilities I suppose.

when i got farcry 2 and fallout 3,i just used a NOCDcrack and they just worked fine,they use securom i got they error 'conflit with emultion software' annoying as it was the no cdcrack it worked fine
