@baristha First of all, you have to remember that the Holy Books were written centuries ago. The Old Testament endorses all kinds of violence towards women, and there is an undertone of racism as well. It even gives permission to men to sell their daughters into sexual slavery. That does not mean that all Jews and Christians follow those teachings. Most of the things that you've listed are based on hadiths, and considered false by most muslims because they contradict the Quran.

@baristha Actually, I could n't agree more. The western world progressed after the separation of church and state, and the Muslim world needs to follow suit. Nor is likely to happen anytime soon, given the lack of education and local tribal customs. Moreover, the eastern mentality is resistant to change and wear religious dogmas like a badge of honor. Plus, the taliban types are heavily armed and "silence" more reform minded Muslims.
@baristha As per the Quran, a Muslim woman has the right to vote, inherit, own property, marry by choice and divorce her husband if abused. 'Mahr" is actually similar to a pre-nuptial agreement. Most of the hadiths you've listed above are considered "false" by most Muslims because they contradict the Quran. If you're genuinely interested, please read a book on Islam from a secular source. I'm sure it will clarify most of the issues you're questioning and provide valuable insight. Take care.

That point I was trying to make in my earlier post, is that not all atrocities committed in the third world can be attributed to religion. A lot has to do with local tribal customs, lack of education, socio economic conditions etc. Women from other faiths don't fare that much either in Asia, Mid-East and Latin America. Nor are their Holy Books particularly female friendly.....

Prophet kept Sawdah bint Zam'ah as his wife after she offered to forfeit her day for A'isha. By keeping her among his wives, his Ummah may follow this kind of settlement.

@baristha Where did you get all that from? First of all, considering the fact I am a woman, I have never been through abuse. Child-Marriage is not accepted nor declined in Islam. Con sanguine relationships are okay, but I don't recall it being mentioned in my Religion. Some cultures accept that even if they follow Islam, so it's rather hard to understand whether it's okay or not. I'd rather not be in that kinda relationship. Abuse is completely against Islam.

@baristha First of all, you have to remember that the Holy Books were written centuries ago. The Old Testament endorses all kinds of violence towards women, and there is an undertone of racism as well. It even gives permission to men to sell their daughters into sexual slavery. That does not mean that all Jews and Christians follow those teachings. Most of the things that you've listed are based on hadiths, and considered false by most muslims because they contradict the Quran.

@baristha Actually, I could n't agree more. The western world progressed after the separation of church and state, and the Muslim world needs to follow suit. Nor is likely to happen anytime soon, given the lack of education and local tribal customs. Moreover, the eastern mentality is resistant to change and wear religious dogmas like a badge of honor. Plus, the taliban types are heavily armed and "silence" more reform minded Muslims.

@baristha As per the Quran, a Muslim woman has the right to vote, inherit, own property, marry by choice and divorce her husband if abused. 'Mahr" is actually similar to a pre-nuptial agreement. Most of the hadiths you've listed above are considered "false" by most Muslims because they contradict the Quran. If you're genuinely interested, please read a book on Islam from a secular source. I'm sure it will clarify most of the issues you're questioning and provide valuable insight. Take care.

That point I was trying to make in my earlier post, is that not all atrocities committed in the third world can be attributed to religion. A lot has to do with local tribal customs, lack of education, socio economic conditions etc. Women from other faiths don't fare that much either in Asia, Mid-East and Latin America. Nor are their Holy Books particularly female friendly.....

The apparent wording of the verse 4:128 refers to the settlement where the wife forfeits many of the rights she has over her husband, with the husband agreeing to this concession, & that this settlement is more desired than divorce.But not the case for a man.
Prophet kept Sawdah bint Zam'ah as his wife after she offered to forfeit her day for A'isha. By keeping her among his wives, his Ummah may follow this kind of settlement.

@baristha Where did you get all that from? First of all, considering the fact I am a woman, I have never been through abuse. Child-Marriage is not accepted nor declined in Islam. Con sanguine relationships are okay, but I don't recall it being mentioned in my Religion. Some cultures accept that even if they follow Islam, so it's rather hard to understand whether it's okay or not. I'd rather not be in that kinda relationship. Abuse is completely against Islam.

Allah revealed Jesus as the messenger before Prophet Muhammad. He was one of the five best messengers of Allah (the others being Prophet Muhammad, Prophet Abraham, Prophet Moses and Prophet Noah). Allah sent these messengers to teach correct behavior and to teach about how to worship Allah.

i would really like it if there was one standard set for all muslims. that way when i quote something disgusting from either book, we can just deal with that issue instead of turning to semantics! about what book can be used! :)

@ccamful MATE, there are some poeple who claim to be muslims but have lost the way, they apparently dont follow hadith, which is wrong. Muslims faith is completed with Quran and Hadith both. They are essential parts.

@ccamful Islam is reasonable and has a law same as the law of governments around the world, as for hate and kill I don't know where are u getting that from! if you hate in islam you go to hell or kill for no reason but if you kill for protecting your home and your family you will go to paradise ! we all know that you belong to christianity so we don't expect you saying good stuff about islam !

I tell you the REAL REASON, why some european women convert to Islam.
It's not pretty, but I will tell you!
Those women were seen as low class good-for-nothings in their societies, with no perspective of any kind to raise their reputation ever again, because they had no personal qualities. It was "GAME OVER" for them.
By converting to Islam they want a "NEW START" in life, want to be acknowledged for their "faith", something they can fake easily. Life becomes easier with less responsibilities.
