    Althea )0(

  • @AltheaHekate This band is so good, aren't they? And yes, the Moon does cause crazy things to happen. But, very good crazy things. :)) We couldn't see the real Full Moon this month bec. of the cold weather, but your video helped very much! Thank you. :D We used to have a tape of the best songs of SteelEye Span, which was one of our favorites. We are so glad to have met you. :)) Blessed be, Nancy )O(

  • Maddy Prior is THE voice!

  • Wheres the dubstep remix? >.<

  • absolutely brilliant cant stop replaying it!!

  • Aaah. Nostalgia city. Takes me back to a lovely, safe, happy childhood and memories of my long gone dad. Lovely

  • Ma ei taha tegelikult kaugel olla.

  • does anyone else think that the guitarist at the front looks like a cocker spaniel

  • funny story. 14 year old me saw these guys at a folk festival in the west of ireland. they had a shitty slot on the Saturday afternoon. the rain was fucking biblical. everyone was hungover. it was a bummer. and then they somehow magically got EVERYONE up dancing around in the mud with this song. best fun ever. festival mood instantly changed. and it's an amazing song. Steeleye Span rocked it!

  • This song won my heart, when I knew my talents, gifts and anything else I was given at birth was being cradled by so many...thank you.

  • It makes me weep and cry when I hear this fine song. So beautiful

  • Maddy rocks!!

  • @medicdeano So do Rick, Nigel, Bob, Peter and the late Tim Hart.

  • Who the hell says 'fare thee well'? oh that's right, Maddy Prior does!

  • Sounds like mandolin to me . But it's a fiddle?

  • I used to love this song when I was a kid. Maddy Prior kicks ass!! :)

  • When I first heard this aged 14 I thought it was the coolest and grooviest thing ever. I still do.

  • Just found this song again and damn glad I did, it is stiil great !

  • I was a happy pre-teen kid when this song came out. I listen to it now & it just takes me floating back on a wave of nostalgia to (IMO) a much more wonderful era.

  • indelible classic.

  • I wish to go far far away so Maddy Prior would wear the green willow around her hat for me

  • That song... kicked ass :)

  • 24 dislikes.... Idiots !!

  • her vocal key changes make me weak at the knees

  • OMG ! this takes me back to my mother dancing around the garden !

  • maddie is the best

  • Great song and a Cheeky Smile too. Can,t ask for much more

  • Maddie Prior is still touring & her voice is as powerful as ever

  • why not in stereo?

  • I love you Maddie!

  • Thank you for sharing

  • Arsssssssse

  • Uniquely British pop song. You couldn't imagine anything like this coming from the U.S. Great, great stuff. This takes me right back when . . . .

  • @icepickmikey I agree completely!

  • Comment removed

  • I've met Maddie Pryor in the 1980's in Leicester

  • @sandi43able I met her in Heidelberg and showed her the pubs there!

  • @Billycool11 Did you mean -- Pubes?

  • Can anyone here confirm that Steeleye did a concert in the mid-1970s when they released a whole load of £5 from the ceiling into the crowd? I've got a vague recollectin of it but can't be sure.

  • I was watching Roxy Music earlier. Then I flipped over into Steeleye Span. I've since sussed out the subliminal thing going on there. This film, surely, demonstrates it best: Maddy Prior and Steeleye Span are the female / folk answer to Brian Ferry and Roxy Music! :D (Both of whom I've loved, about equally down the years) ;-)

  • Ok I'll put the pan away then...

  • bass man looks like long john baldry

  • Bob Fleming's Folkin Classics

  • i will wear the green willow, making me the green man, the oldest figure in english folk lore

    go in peace

  • @baldandold More power to you and I'm catching up good listening

  • 21 cases of herpes of ear canal. Classic harmonies backed up with groovy distorted guitar, and stripey drumstics, mucho grazzi preggo di cazzo mamamiya, I saute you kind sir

  • @mustaffamoustachaa Please don't saute anyone

  • Fare thee well cold winter...and fare thee well fashion sense...

  • Steeleye Span is and always will be my fav Folk Group.

I loved them back in the 70s

God bless you Maddy & Co

  • I will have to get their album out and put it on the turntable. Not played it in ages.Tars.

  • This is the kind of music you should listen to when you're drinking home-made wine on your canal boat in the 1970's.

  • 20 arseholes out of 1049 ,speaks for its self

  • I cannot believe that it is over thirty years since I was regularly playing this on my radio show!

  • Comment removed

  • Brilliant ... definitely up there with 'the best'

  • I can't watch this without thinking of Bob Fleming on The Fast Show

  • maddie is bloody hot!!!!

  • Heard about this band by being a Jethro Tull fan. Maddy Prior sang background on Tull's "Too Old to Rock n Roll, Too Young To Die!" So I had to look up Steeleye Span and came across this. Why this wasn't popular in the States, I don't know. This song is awesome!

  • Have you ever tried making out to this? Its great in a car with decent suspension. Boingy boingy boingy boingy......

  • what a lovely lady

  • Fare thee well, cold frost. Not cold farts. lol

  • this a madrigal

  • Oh I just love this song but does anyone hear her singing 'fare thee well cold farts' in the first verse? Mebbe its just me :D

  • Love these older songs - they actually sung about things people could relate to... in some way. :D

  • Maddy Prior is one drop-dead gorgeous, incandecantly sexy woman with a twinkle in the eye that can knock you clean off your feet at twenty paces!!!

  • @SamuraiQuester I so agree, I actually kissed Maddy in 1970 at The Shepton Mallet festival.... I remember it like it was yesterday.

  • @SamuraiQuester Yep!

  • @SamuraiQuester You got that right! And she's still beautiful!

  • Music videos went from plain and boring, to psychedelic, to weird and inventive, and now back to plain and boring.

  • stripey drumsticks nicked from don powell! hahaha

  • Peter Knight's face on 02:02 is brilliant.

    Epic song, epic band.

  • i remember this one my parents used to play it . yes thats right they were hippies

  • This is wonderful. Just enjoy it, if you don't like it, don't come on here.

  • Is that imbecile atfatw still on the loose?

I thought he/she/it would have been put back into the padded cell by now.

Perhaps the US are becoming more tolerant of the redneck retards in their society, or perhaps no one gives a monkey's whatsit for the opinion of a 5 year old.

  • @mikethefoto still boozing all by yourself and living rent free with your mom you old krel!

  • @atfatw

No, still making a profit trading the dollar as the US credit rating gets flushed down the pan.

  • @mikethefoto afatw's pretty much like an irritating rash that never really goes away

but he serves as a reminder that however low you sink, you're never on his level ;)

  • They may have smoked a bit of weed, but mainly they were the type of hippies that drank lots of tea!

  • This is awesome, first I have heard of your band but we were compared to you by a deejay~ really lovely music! What a gift to be compared to a classic and a class act.

  • MUSLIMS, YOU JUST WONT GET THIS MUSIC IT COMES FROM OUR GREAT ENGLISH HERITAGE TRY AS YOU MIGHT YOU WILL NEVER BREAK US

  • first heard them in the early 70's aned spent 17 years trying to find an album. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY had one. Now I have them all and am a happy camper!

  • Electric folk was all the rage those days. I love Maddy's beautiful pure English voice and the nice deep harmonies by the men.

  • Unique, beautiful voice! *thumbs-up*!

  • Maddy has a perfect voice her notes and expression are faultless.

She is still a lovely lady, met her in Burnley a couple of years ago.

  • I love this song plus the singer is beautiful

  • awesome!

  • we want this music back...

  • brilliant

  • brilliant !!!!!

  • Never realised this before, Maddie is rather a cheeky lass, adds to the performance.

  • @Joshua12345 she is not pretty anymore and is now fat english women aren't much anyway so why do they think there is sonething good (self expression?) in their being grossly overweight

  • @atfatw nonsense

  • @atfatw Her appeal was never her looks, even in her young days, when her looks were quite appealing indeed. Now go back to playing warcraft, the grownups are talking.

  • @Bob1Mack ha1 if you think thaT skanky skinny stick was pretty you must very badly need plenty of pyschiatric help fool!

  • @atfatw Yawn.

  • I wish I had a hat.

  • @NobodyFucksWithJesus I like yr comment! I don't have a hat either!!!!

  • @atfatw You've no chance twaty

  • @gruber1650 you spelled twatty wrong you stupid spitalfields twat!

  • @atfatw No I got it right twaty, there's only one T in your name.

  • @gruber1650 Thanks for the message twaty, I can't understand your problem though. Has Maddie refused to suck your festering septic knob?

  • Your voice way back when was imaculate as it is now. Maddie Prior is my Queen! X

  • @diddzz1 you gotta be nuts limejuicer! maddy has lost it all and now she is as fat as peggotty!

  • Brill!

  • How could anybody NOT like this?!

  • This reminds me of middle age England. Britain has changed so much since this was a hit, not for the better.

  • @planetrockford So true. I no longer feel safe in England at all. It is no longer a land of the Britons, and a man is forbidden by law to defend himself. He must accept any assault and hope that some day, perhaps someone will investigate it. The Magna Carta no longer applies.

  • @motherthing Races have their day in the Sun when you look at history and I fear although our nations history has been brutal, the worst is yet to come when the Muslim population out grows our own and through parliamentary democracy inposes new laws that will restrict not only our freedom but also their Muslim brothers. Holland will be the first of the european nations to fall.

  • @planetrockford england sucks!!!!!!! its worse than ireland and it takes some doing to be that bad!

  • @atfatw I will take your word for it mate as I never had the balls to visit Ireland, I feared being kidnapped and knee capped if I took the wrong turning. England is a dump no doubt as my government rips another ancient woodland up to build a clone housing estate for the Worlds population to live in.

  • @planetrockford ah, a mature, normal, englishman well, well, will wonders never cease! thats rarer than white jade. it always kills me that that horrible sotted place (ireland) produces the most beautiful women in the world

  • @atfatw Raven haired beauties, now we are talking. Very nice.

  • I was five years old when this came out, my parents bought the record and played it for years. I had forgotten entirely about it until I saw a copy on sale at the street markets, snapped it up. I never realised at the time how timeless this stuff is. Pure gold.

  • I fell in love with this song when I was dating my first boyfriend soon to be husband and little did I know but I was also 3yrs later was to get to meet Maddie Prior at Philadelphia Folk Festival. It was truely a huge moment for me and I was just gushing and silly but Maddie was so awesomely calm and relaxed and actually posed for pictures for me. I'll never forget that moment or her. Maddie Prior and Steele Eye Span have a very special place in my heart.

    too!

  • a happy new year can be had in America the greatest nation on earth if all the english and germans living here were rounded up and diaspora'd back to where they came from

  • @atfatw I've always found most Americans to be courteous, welcoming people. I suppose however there has to be the odd exception and you appear to be very odd!

  • @atfatw there are more sicko's, peadophiles, psychopaths serial killers etc etc in LA than in the whole of the UK if it hadn't of been for the British, Dutch, Irish, Germans and Italians most americans would still have feathers in their hair and living in wigwams you fucking halfwit dumbass yank.

  • this goes back to when the music charts were so diverse ,the 70s was the best decade for music with all kinds of bands and singers , not like the crap we have today fasioned by the likes of simon cowell who wouldent know a good singer if he lives till hes 110.its all about money . so thanx for posting

  • Muy music teacher played this in 1977! I thought it was crap at the time but now I think its brilliant!

  • loved it, even as a secondary school kid, when this was NOT "cool"...lol

  • By christ, Irish girls can sing!!

  • This is STILL a fantastic song ;-)

  • *applaudes atfatw*

Whoop! 1/3 million views here too!

Keep it up mate, you're better than an Coke ad for getting peeps to find this great old Brit band. Grief grief grief! You'll get fans all over the world at this rate!

Actually saw this one as a 'choosen vid' this time! Woot!

  • What a wonderful uplifting sound and Maddy is as pretty as a picture.

  • @atfatw Why would you want to say such things?

  • @erniekelvin

well, stay at home with mom, its a crime against nature itself for women to let themselves go! and become fat and messy and ugly don't you know this?

  • @atfatw Thanks for that info, I'll be sure to report all further crimes against mature to God and he can strike the criminals down with furious anger. Keep up the good work.
