I got one of these a LONG time ago... Though I didn't follow the instructions, since I didn't like them, so I bought a different tank, different food, and some other stuff. My frog is still alive in her 7 gallon tank .3.
Those are actually AFRICAN CLAWED FROGS...very subtle differences to the dwarf. There is another company, "grow a frog" that does the same deal except not in an enclosed container. You get a tadpole to raise and it's not supposed to grow bigger than the container. Did you know though that these frogs are illegal to have in most states? Because the frogs adapt very quickly, live over 10 years, eat practically anything, and get bigger to destroy ecosystems if released in the wild from captivity.
OH MY GOD I CAN'T STOP CRYING WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE FROGS? AND THE MUSIC! THE MUSIC! DEAR GOD, IT'S ALMOST AS BAD AS "IN THE ARMS OF THE ANGELS"!
I purchased one of these 3 years ago and they're still living. They have never gotten sick, i've fed them 8 pellets a week, i've actually only cleaned the tank once. That i'm not proud of. I let the bamboo in the tank grow so that they can hide among the roots of it. There is a smooth rock in it that they like to hide behind. I'm trying to convince my mom to let me get a bigger tank so they have more room to swim around. I'm glad that you are defending them. But they don't know any different.
I had a leopred frog he lived a great life his name was leopie and he lived 3 years he lifed with 2 fire belled frogs an albino leoperd frog and 2 newts they were all so happy I miss them all... R.I.P. Bunny,Bullhopper,newty2,newter,causy,leopie I will allways miss you
another thing is, those rocks they put in are so dangerous. the big ones, they are made out of slightly jagged GLASS. when i was little i had one of these, and my from slit its stomach on the decoration. so i got to watch, crying, as the pet i had been wanting for months slowly filled up with water and die. im so glad word is getting around
Gee, as if the animals care. They aren't smart enough to give a damn about where they live. We are humans and we can do whatever the fuck we want with animals. Bible says so. No exceptions. At least we aren't skinning dogs alive. Their goal is survival. Not the best lifestyle.
@xXMurderOnFireXx So, if the Bible told you murderer or hurt children, would you? What is wrong with you and all of you other ignorant and obviously poorly educated narcissistic idiots? Oh wait, that's right... you are selfish and make people like me, who actually have a brain and at least an ounce of compassion for anything other than oneself (not to mention common sense), sick to my stomach. How ignorant.
@xXMurderOnFireXx So, does every other religious text say that you can do whatever you want to animals to because you're human? No, they don't--the Bible included. If you are going to make a comment please do so with education and common sense to support your claim. Not random, arrogant and narcissistic garbage. Also, does it matter where they come from? I mean, should society care less about you if you weren't bred from high society?
@xXMurderOnFireXx Oh please. That's the problem with this planet and mankind--selfish people like yourself who seem to think that the World revolves around them. Look good into the mirror the next time you are in your bathroom...I hope your enjoy the sight f that disgusting lowly face of a being that you see starring back at you.
I had dwarf African clawed frogs. Wilbur and Susie were their names. They most certainly DO outgrow tanks. We bought a huge aquarium for them. They were happy froggies :3
@MrJohnnyOldschool dude that may be how you think of it, since you are a human and we pretty much live like that, but imagine if you were suddenly unable to leave your house anymore, fed only by two bowls of cornflakes a week and on top of that, an idiot peer of yours was locked in with you? thats what its like for these frogs.
Update: thanks to all the people who made emails, phone calls, letters and videos such as this. Brookstone has now taken all the frog-o-spheres off their shelves due to the raised awareness of how cruel these little prisons are and how horrible the living conditions of the frogs were during packaging and shipping, the fact that it promoted the impulse purchase by people who did not look after them properly and the fact that the instructions were causing starvation of these animals. We applau
@militaryqt Very well done video! When I first saw them for sale in the mall I was horrified! I asked the sales woman why animals where being sold in such inferior tiny plastic cases, she rolled her eyes and said "They're just tiny frogs. They'll get no bigger than that. If one dies we will replace it." I was shocked! You can't replace a living being! These creatures are deserving of so much better! Poor little guys need to stay where they belong in the wild or at least in a nice sized aquarium
A couple things to consider: This video was great! My views were portrayed exactly. However, a 10 gallon tank is not exactly necessary for these frogs. I say the smallest size you should go for a full grown pair living together is a 5 gallon tank. Seriously don't get too tall of a tank because they need to breath are and it causes stress to have to swim all that ways up every time they want to breath. Also, the frog's eggs don't survive unless you purposely take VERY special care of the eggs.
I went into a school supply store for teachers today & my 1st reaction was 'OMG, how cruel is that? - Well, after I talked to the cashier - I did take one home - now I feel really terrible about it........I will definately be getting a bigger home for my new froggies. I know they are better off in a controlled environment than winging it in the wilderness so I will try to give them the best possible home since I alreayd brought them home...
i say this... fuck all the people who says these mean comments!!! i mean this is what 'm saying..... do you want to live in a place meant to be a tourture divise or a huge island where even if there is prediters.... you are happy.... i will choose island... that "bowl" is 100% death.... which one?!
Thank you so much for posting this....I have had a Frog-O-Sphere for 2 months, and just now bought a large tank with all the necessities....I love frogs, I should put 2&2 together in the beginning, but thank so for this ^_^ ....you just saved the lives of 2 frogs
@Jeridjoey WOW. Thats what you got from this video? Way to use the brain! Yes wild animals are best left alone! BUT If you want a pet, give it the best life you can give it! These tiny cubes aren't whats best for these creatures! They need aquariums with lots of room to explore and swim! Places to forage and hide!
Oh, stop it already, I bought the setup, and I'm almost a week in my lil froggies zippo and Harry love it, I treat them well, I give them 3 pellets each, 3 days a week, and, it's going good, they do their little mating chirp at night, and they look very healthy, and.... They're actually made( bred) in.... AMERICA, the good ole USA,
@jawafan Says you! "They make a noise" so they MUST be happy!!! PLEASE! You stop already! Just because they are small and cant speak up and say "Can I please have a bigger place to move in?" Dosen't mean they are living it up in a tiny cube! Go live in your closet and see how long you can thrive and love it! They need a bigger space! Simple stuff!
ha.. Have we really gotten to the point where we are worried about frogs in a cage. I guarantee that your home was built on land which at one time was the home of many species of animals. Construction workers did not just 'relocate' them. It isn't like they are selling kittens enclosed in milk jugs. With your argument we should start protesting Pet Co for selling fish, Chinese restaurants with coy displays, and what about Sea Monkeys? Dear God what about the Sea Monkeys?!?
@coolchevyman OHHH. They're overpopulated! Oh well. Lets just shove em in a clear box and tell them "Sorry guys but, your over populated! Can't live to much longer or you'll become a nussiance! So live here for as long as you can stand then die off!
lmao they have to hide to reduce stress?! how the hell do you know that they have stress? Wouldn't you rather us keep them alive and fed rather than be eaten by one of many thousands of predators after like a week of being alive? *RUNS TO BUY ONE*
@nathanfishing3000 my birds have cages large enough for them to fly and are only in their cage when a door is open, my hamster has a cage that is 4 feet tall and 3 stories (now that she is too old for her 5 cages that spanned accross 7 feet) and gets time out both in the open under our supervision and in her ball, my rats (whom were rescues that used to be kept in a disgustingly small cage too small for a hamster) both have 5 foot by three foot, 3 storey cages and have regular time out
@nathanfishing3000 in their own play room, my ferrets have a cage that is over 7 feet tall, 6 storeys and are out from 10pm (or as soon as it is dark) until 6am daily. None of my animals are in an enclosure that is too small for them and all have time to stretch out and get exercise daily. Frog-O-Spheres do not allow for this.
@militaryqt sounds like you have a nice cage for your ferrets but they are by no means totaly nocturnal and im sure they would love you a hole lot more if they were out at times where you could interact with them better. ferrets adjust to your sleep schedual. my 3 ferrets have free run of my living room all the time they can be monitored, its not safe for a ferret to be out unsupervised they can get into trouble and you cant help while you sleep. PS fuck peta they are fucking terrorists.
stop spamming my video. You posted 4 posts in 1 minute of your own thoughts and not anything to back any of it up, not to mention you are misquoting things directly off the brookstone's pamphlet. Stop trolling my videos or be blocked.
I am sick of repeating myself because people do not like to read or hear anything that did not come from them, but if you have read other posts, or any information for that matter, you would learn and know that not all 10 gallon aquariums come in the same shape. A gallon is a liquid measurement and different shapes of each tank are available. You are clearly automatically thinking that it should be a 10 gallon fish aquarium, and not the appropriate 10 gallon shallow tank
--Frogs out in nature where they are at the bottom of the food chain, or in the tank where they will live longer and never have to worry about their next meal??? hmmm....
That would be a very bad idea. Not only will they not survive in our climate or ecosystem since they are from Africa, but you will also be introducing bacterias and possible diseases that are not native to our own ecosystem and will impede it. Also, since there has been a major outbreak of salmonellae recently surrounding these frogs and the conditions upon capture and transport, you could be putting yourself and the local waterways at risk.
the most crucial thing you could do is think ahead and very thoroughly before you even walk in the store and make your decision before you purchase it, as that is what any resposible person does. You took the first step by thinking ahead of what COULD happen. Take that into reality and decide before hand if you will deal with it or not. If not, then don't buy it in the first place. This is a living creature you are deciding upon it's fate and treatment upon purchasing.
people get in car accidents all the time too, there is no difference between what you just said and saying you'd rather sit in a jail cell 24 hours a day than have the chance of being in a car accident.
@NRHairsoft121 I would rather be killed and eaten after having lived a free life then live to my life expectency in a tiny cage being fed just enough to barely survive.
@NRHairsoft121 Because you do not know how to survive in that environment! These frogs are still being killed! They are put into these tiny cubes. You cant really even call them tanks! With nothing to do, nothing to explore. You said it right! You wouldn't want to be put in their environment, so why take them and put them into a box better used to display an autographed baseball than support life? Surely you can see they can't possibly thrive in these cubes
actually no thats not true 10 gallons is way too much.
they actually live in warm shallow water. now im not saying that this isn't a very cruel concept. i do agree i think its very wrong to remove these creatures from there warm humid environments. i have 2 frogs set up in a humid terrarium with tons of plants and room to swim. that little tiny box is way too small for two of them.
10 gallon is an ample size, but you have to understand that gallon measurements are fluid, not solid. I beleive when you say it's too much, you are thinking of the generic 10 gallon fish tanks, which yes you are correct, these are not suitable for these frogs as it is too deep and they do need to go to the surface for air occasionally and are not the best swimmers, however any of the 10 gallon shallow tanks are perfect.
actually different categories of wikipedia are written by different people, some educated and professional, some not. In order to validate anything you read online, wikipedia or not, you have to look at the source of the author, which I did ahead of time prior to creating this. All information was cross referenced with other government environmental sites, exotic veterinarians, aquatic biologists, and people who have been handling them properly for 20 years or more.
@Lacrosseplaya91 That is great, and it does save the two frogs. But you just pay the company to bring even more in. Its a horrible situation. :( Nice you made some effort!
Very nice, though could have been shorter. Perfect factual information that i applaud. Too many people aren't getting their facts straight about this, and they are well meaning but end up sounding ignorant. Good job!
It is all validated with direct quotes from reputable links. Either take the time to view the references and note valid falsities with proof or don't bother posting random generalizations with no facts entailed.
ok, ur vid is great! :) but info is rong :( please redo ur reaserch.... first of all, adf only needs (for 1) min 2 gallons, second, they r failry active, but they definatly stay still, almost all the time, the only time they swim, is if they need air, or they r moving towards food, or if they r just bored, thirdly, adf may have sensative skin, but ur makeing way to much of a deal of it, u can have waterver u wont in a tank, just as long as it is safe 4 fish, it safe 4 a frog, just redo reaserch
All information collected from this was from reputable professionals, biologists and long time breeders of these sweet frogs. All information was backed up with cited quotes from these very same reputable sites. I am sure that they are all wrong because some child who has the spelling and grammar of a 10 year old is much more experienced with the needs and biological requirements and says they are incorrect.
yes, but u mean SOME of them, some of wat u got was from wiki.... NEVER TRUST WIKI! it is a user run site, and btw wiki is not from pros lol, and i sure the info u got that was rite, was from a bioligest or long time breeder, but sometimes, wiki (cuz i no that was a bit of were the reaserch came from) is rong, but sometimes it is rite, i was just pointing out some of ur mistakes any1 could have made...
actually wiki is dependent on who wrote the article, since some of it is written by educated professionals and some is not. All information was cross reference with at least 2 sources, some of which was wiki, but was also by another reliable source also including aquatic biologists, exotic veterinarians, breeders (although I dislike breeders they are knowledgeable in their fields), handlers, university professors, etc.
We had an A.D.F. called Kirby in a huge set up (50gal) unfortunately we hadn't build up the biological bacteria & Kirby is no longer. We loved you, Kirby! Who tha hell wants a frog at work!? What if you quit!? WTF r u gonna do if they fire u & u take the bus 2 work!?
well above this information, you should also note that there's been a large salmonella outbreak due to dwarf african frogs and in the cramped, dirty conditions at the frog-o-sphere packing factory, it will spread like wild fire
yeah i guess i already decided it just a waste of money i will still shop at brookstone though just no for that im thinking about getting a ecosphere or someting just cuz i like that sort of stuff
I got one of these a LONG time ago... Though I didn't follow the instructions, since I didn't like them, so I bought a different tank, different food, and some other stuff. My frog is still alive in her 7 gallon tank .3.

From someone that has owed aquatic frogs for years;
~ I've seen aquatics reach the height of a 30gal high tank
~ These aquatic creatures NEED to be treated just like tropical fish (they are tropical)
~ If you don't feed these frogs as often as your fish they WILL eat fish
~ The can & WILL eat fish & snails and anything else that they can
~ They are ILLEGAL in most states (even tho you can buy them in almost any pet store.

@militaryqt Sure there wasn't............Voi ragazzi sono ritardati mentali

A very informative video! Nicely done, and I agree with you! Frog-O-Spheres are disgusting and cruel for frogs.

this is Very wrong! i really agree with you!

stop spamming my video. You posted 4 posts in 1 minute of your own thoughts and not anything to back any of it up, not to mention you are misquoting things directly off the brookstone's pamphlet. Stop trolling my videos or be blocked.

neither oxygenizes the water appropriately

I am sick of repeating myself because people do not like to read or hear anything that did not come from them, but if you have read other posts, or any information for that matter, you would learn and know that not all 10 gallon aquariums come in the same shape. A gallon is a liquid measurement and different shapes of each tank are available. You are clearly automatically thinking that it should be a 10 gallon fish aquarium, and not the appropriate 10 gallon shallow tank

--Frogs out in nature where they are at the bottom of the food chain, or in the tank where they will live longer and never have to worry about their next meal??? hmmm....
ramsdist 1 year ago
@ramsdist ugh no the insects they eat are one the bottom and anyway the cages are small and they are crowded in the wild they have free space to roam
snipesnrifles 1 year ago
I might be getting one of these soon; in case they do breed or I decide that this really is cruel, can I release them in any fresh water waterway?
UK713 1 year ago

This is a living creature you are deciding upon it's fate and treatment upon purchasing.

ummm these frogs live in africa and get eatin all the time by fish and other predetors i rather live in a cool hosue than get eatin
NRHairsoft121 2 years ago
people get in car accidents all the time too, there is no difference between what you just said and saying you'd rather sit in a jail cell 24 hours a day than have the chance of being in a car accident.
militaryqt 1 year ago
@NRHairsoft121 I would rather be killed and eaten after having lived a free life then live to my life expectency in a tiny cage being fed just enough to barely survive.

@militaryqt i luv these little guys
sparingnstuff 1 year ago
@militaryqt well then move to africa
TheChando1 8 months ago
@NRHairsoft121 Because you do not know how to survive in that environment! These frogs are still being killed! They are put into these tiny cubes. You cant really even call them tanks! With nothing to do, nothing to explore. You said it right! You wouldn't want to be put in their environment, so why take them and put them into a box better used to display an autographed baseball than support life? Surely you can see they can't possibly thrive in these cubes

Your right.

would they be alright in a foot tall tank?
zacman199 2 years ago
10 gallons is about the smallest you should go if you do decide to take on the responsibility of owning them
militaryqt 1 year ago
actually no thats not true 10 gallons is way too much.
they actually live in warm shallow water. now im not saying that this isn't a very cruel concept. i do agree i think its very wrong to remove these creatures from there warm humid environments. i have 2 frogs set up in a humid terrarium with tons of plants and room to swim. that little tiny box is way too small for two of them.
nicebeetz 2 years ago
10 gallon is an ample size, but you have to understand that gallon measurements are fluid, not solid. I beleive when you say it's too much, you are thinking of the generic 10 gallon fish tanks, which yes you are correct, these are not suitable for these frogs as it is too deep and they do need to go to the surface for air occasionally and are not the best swimmers, however any of the 10 gallon shallow tanks are perfect.

I Love how your first quote is from Wikipedia....very resourceful....
CubanCorndog 2 years ago
actually different categories of wikipedia are written by different people, some educated and professional, some not. In order to validate anything you read online, wikipedia or not, you have to look at the source of the author, which I did ahead of time prior to creating this. All information was cross referenced with other government environmental sites, exotic veterinarians, aquatic biologists, and people who have been handling them properly for 20 years or more.

Grow a Frog is a much better choice than this because it is expandable and open so they can be taken out

you can take the frogs out of the frogosphere tank i transported my 2 frogosphere tanks into a10 gallon tank
Lacrosseplaya91 2 years ago 9
@Lacrosseplaya91 That is great, and it does save the two frogs. But you just pay the company to bring even more in. Its a horrible situation. :( Nice you made some effort!

Very nice, though could have been shorter. Perfect factual information that i applaud. Too many people aren't getting their facts straight about this, and they are well meaning but end up sounding ignorant. Good job!

It is all validated with direct quotes from reputable links. Either take the time to view the references and note valid falsities with proof or don't bother posting random generalizations with no facts entailed.

ok, ur vid is great! :) but info is rong :( please redo ur reaserch.... first of all, adf only needs (for 1) min 2 gallons, second, they r failry active, but they definatly stay still, almost all the time, the only time they swim, is if they need air, or they r moving towards food, or if they r just bored, thirdly, adf may have sensative skin, but ur makeing way to much of a deal of it, u can have waterver u wont in a tank, just as long as it is safe 4 fish, it safe 4 a frog, just redo reaserch
flyleafrules93 2 years ago
All information collected from this was from reputable professionals, biologists and long time breeders of these sweet frogs. All information was backed up with cited quotes from these very same reputable sites. I am sure that they are all wrong because some child who has the spelling and grammar of a 10 year old is much more experienced with the needs and biological requirements and says they are incorrect.
militaryqt 2 years ago
yes, but u mean SOME of them, some of wat u got was from wiki.... NEVER TRUST WIKI! it is a user run site, and btw wiki is not from pros lol, and i sure the info u got that was rite, was from a bioligest or long time breeder, but sometimes, wiki (cuz i no that was a bit of were the reaserch came from) is rong, but sometimes it is rite, i was just pointing out some of ur mistakes any1 could have made...
flyleafrules93 2 years ago
@militaryqt i wasnt tryin to offend, and i srry
flyleafrules93 2 years ago
@militaryqt i was just pointing some things out
flyleafrules93 2 years ago
actually wiki is dependent on who wrote the article, since some of it is written by educated professionals and some is not.

WTF r u gonna do if they fire u & u take the bus 2 work!?
mikejessmax 2 years ago
you know i was thinking of getting one i still am though but ill think about it
AwsomeKevo 2 years ago
well above this information, you should also note that there's been a large salmonella outbreak due to dwarf african frogs and in the cramped, dirty conditions at the frog-o-sphere packing factory, it will spread like wild fire
militaryqt 2 years ago
yeah i guess i already decided it just a waste of money i will still shop at brookstone though just no for that im thinking about getting a ecosphere or someting just cuz i like that sort of stuff
