I would like to come out to Ossining and do some railfanning because apparently there is more train action out there & the train station platform is not restricted. I will tell ya railfanning in SDY Sux.
I dunno - I like the SDY area - ya get a scanner in the car and you can have a hella-successful day... I mean ya got The Hudson Line, The D&H, The PAS "Rotterdam Branch", and the Selkirk Branch nearby - honestly as Mad Dog would say - the magic triangle (& surrounding area) is a great area for buffin...
There are way more then 8 at SDY. Amtrak alone you have: 48, 49, 63, 64, 68, 69, 4 28x-series trains, 2 29x-series trains... 2 LSL's (one round trip) 2 Maple Leafs (one round trip) 2 Adirondacks (one round trip) 2 Ethan Allens (one round trip) 4 Empire Service [to NFN] (two round trips) for a total of 12 a day at very least. Then add in all the freight traffic on the D&H line that also goes right thru the station (at least 7 round trips a day, probably) more... Thats just @SDY sta.
Um the trouble is finding a spot to set up. You cant us the SDY train platform. And if you try to set up at a railway crossing you could get seen by the cops. When I did my SDY railway vid I tried to avoid getting seen. Aleast the platform at Ossining you can set up and not worry about getting kicked off.
I was on a Capitol Limited (#30) heading into Washington a few weeks ago and we had several private cars on the end of our train. They were not occupied. Apparently these are restored historic cars that are moved in and out of a rail museum (perhaps a Smithsonian?) in Washington. Obviously this has been going on for some time.
the rear 5 cars are "in service 63" as the engines and lead 5 cars come off upon arrival at ALB, leaving the rear 5 for the outbound power to tie onto and take west.
the last train in the video is a train of M-7A cars, which are electric-multiple-units (EMUs) they are powered by direct-current electricity provided by the third rail. See some of my other videos to see more like it...

Oh I did not think of that. There are only 8 trains a day near the SDY train Station.

it is "two consists" but its just 63. On Mondays only 63 drags an extra train's worth of equipment back up to ALB...
