Does anyone have the clip from a Jonathon Winters (short lived) TV show with him & Robin Williams go to his attic and just bounce stuff back and forth with what's there? Sorry for the run on sentence, but it was hilarious! Hope someone posts it!!!
Jonathan Winters was AWESOME!! I remember I used to sit up and wait for him to come on the Tele when I was younger (and yes we had the black and white) He would crack me up all the time and another one that made me laugh was David Steinberg (wonder what ever happened to him) I was telling my daughter about his comic genius and to bad the kids of today don't have any of this to remember.
One of the most influential stand-up comedians of all-time. Jack Benny, Jonathan Winters, Mort Saul, were in a class by themselves. All other comics that came after them copied their styles.
Gee, wondering if the late Ernie Kovacs had any influence on Jonathan? Or vis versa? With both being of the same time period? Because, it just seems that Ernie went in for some kind of abstract surreal comedy (a way ahead of its time) that perhaps Jonathan translated into something funny and way out?
Tdgonline, An interesting comment... they were indeed of the same era, and you can be sure that each was aware of the work of the other. I think that they were both products of the television; it allowed for a different style of comedy than radio or vaudeville, and it came in a time of great changes -- the late 40s through the early 60s. Guys like them were the peak of American comedy. There's been nothing like them since. It's the same with British humour; it peaked in the 60s, too.
@Tdgonline They, and their comedy, were products of their time. I'm sure they were following one another's progress, but they are both originals. It's ironic that people think of them both as being "ahead of their time" because they were very much a response to the boredom and lack of imagination of the 1945 - 1965 era.
We "hippies", who love them both, were another product of and response to those times.
This had to be break thru humor at the time on TV, about gays....I never get tired watching this, especially Paar's reaction. Priceless improv!!

It's going to be a dark day in the world of comedy when we lose Jonathan Winters.

1:25---Don't you recall your Greek mythology, Jack? He's supposed to be Pan! Demi-god of Arcadian shepherds.

Classic Jonathan: top drawer improvisation! He's grandaddy to SNL, Second City, and In Living Color.
