The first time I heard Chett was when I looked for Jazz trumpet music and liked Chett Baker's playing but when I first heard him sing,I thought "oh no" .Then as the song progressed,I liked it more and more.Now I can't get enough! I first discovered Chet Baker when I was in Canada about a decade ago. I accidentally tuned into a French speaking radio station in Eastern Toronto. I heard this voice and it was hautingly so real. I thought at first is was a husky women signing. Then I heard the trumpet follow- I could strain to understand the French announcer- I was hooked on Chet Bakers music ever since. We could use another like him today- His talent was so rare!

Alotta times i don't know who wrote these older songs..or even who performed them first. But i will say that a number of times i can't help but say that Chet's renditions of songs just have so much more magic and feeling. Sometimes it seems to me like other artists try to hard to "sing" the song and forget to feel it..and let it move through them. You're correct. I was 13/14 upon this albums released & I'd play it day and night. By 16 I would sneak into the Moulin Rouge jazz club in Brookly, NY where he appeard Frequently to catch Chet live. .
