This is such a Blessed Song. The Glorious Gospel of Christ has Set me free and all the saints of God so what we can sing no matter what happens no matter what suffering occurs we can say "It is Well with my Soul"
I am so happy to find this video. Thank you for providing it. We loved the choir but also appreciated the pastor's prologue. Please upload more from this church!!!
God blessed my soul when we lost our youngest son/child in an auto accident; and, God Blessed me to commence playing the organ & singing as I played. In addition, God blessed me & sent a "total stranger" to me and gave me "this" history about the originator of this song...what a B L E S S I N G.
i've always wondered where this song stemed from. amazing story of truimph and greif. they played this at my aunts funeral. i love this song awesome song and vidoe.
Today is Oct 12, 2010 and I'm view this wonderful presentation for the first time. My chorus students are learning a hymn each week and It Is Well With My Soul with the history was well received. Thank you for posting this. Good arrangement and good choir sound. Be Blessed! Gale Jones Murphy - Minister of Music, Chorus Teacher, Composer & Classical Pianist
My favorite hymn! The shipwreck was in a harbor off the coast of England - a fluke accident in the fog. The Spaffords then established The American Colony in Jerusalem (see book "American Priestess"). Many from Chicago followed them to Jerusalem. I live a block from the location of the Spafford's former home in Chicago. Their influence/efforts in Jerusalem to bring peace and understanding among Christians, Muslims and Jews during both Ottoman and British rule there can not be overstated.
Wow that bass section is incredible! j/k I'm one of the basses. The narrator is Pastor Rob Finch at Berean Baptist Church in Lilburn GA. Thanks for posting.
I give high marks for the content up until the singing. I am not putting the choir down; their voices seem fine. The arrangement...I just do not care for.
I love, My sin oh the bliss of that glorious though! My sin not in part but the whole. Is nailed to the cross & I bare it no more! PRAISE THE LORD PRAISE THE LORD, OH MY SOUL!!! To God be the Glory for the things HE has done in my life! I'm grateful for my good He's done for me but, I'm also grateful for my bad because He made it good! Thank you Jesus!!
Thank you for providing this most moving and humbling story. It's one of my favourite hymns but I never knew the context of its writing. It really puts our small everyday problems into perspective. What faith he had.
Thank you for the comments. As regards the last one, I have no idea who did the arrangement. But, at the risk of sounding prideful, I think that our church choir is really very awesome. This is a group of church members/volunteers, and I think they come together *very* well. This is a small-ish Baptist church in Lilburn, Georgia.
thank you for sharing this. It means a great deal to me. God has been blessing me with this song in times of trouble.

Beautiful. Thank you. I especially appreciate, not only the history, but the illustrations that accompany it.
My son's high school marching band did a beautiful arrangement of this song and ever since, it has been a favorite hymn of mine.

This has been my favorite hymn ever since I first heard it. I attended my Great-Grandmother's funeral today, and this song helped greatly.

This song has a really meaningful story and I believe it's always good to tell the story behind some of the most popular hymns before singing them.

It is testimonies like Spafford's that provoke people to believe in God.
