This is absolutely amazing stuff. Never seen anything like it, will probably never ever again. Surely I'll talk and think about this for weeks to come.
I don't know if I'll be able to sleep now tonight.
@RuudJH I'm glad to see there really ARE people who are taking this seriously. I've been telling me mates down the pub about this for days now and they just don't seem to realise how rare this is. I've just given it another view and I've written some notes down and I'll give it another go tonight, just to make sure I keep it sharp and to the point.
It did not come loose. it snapped off. He was using a nylon shaft. It happens, they even make a tool for removing the threaded part that is left in the barrel. The cool part of this vid is the slow motion where you see the flight and broken shaft flying up in the air.
@sawford1234 why do people just claim things as fact. I have played Viking league for 10 years now and have seen this happen maybe twice!! It's never happened to me.You see it all the time?? Do you throw pretzel rods in your league?
In this case, the shaft holding the flights broke off at the thread joint, which is fairly common. This is why so many players carry extra parts in their kits. With that, he'll be ready to throw again in a few seconds (you can see him making the repair at 0:27 - 0:41). Many don't like the feel, but I prefer aluminum-alloy shafts since they rarely break. Metal shafts might bend, but that usually requires a bit more abuse.
not every game of darts is on video mate. If you use Unicorn Gripper II shafts like Andy Hamilton then you will recognise this problem. I use the same shafts (in black) and this does happen pretty regularly if you play regularly. Not all players use these shafts and there's very little televised darts when you consider the amount of matches actually played each year, hence why you don't see it televised all the time, but it does happen all the time.
@UJSupanova I agree it happens a lot, but it happens far more often when the dart hits the floor after a bounce out. It is kind of strange to see it happen at the board.
