  • i am curious to learn more about patois. do many jamaicans regard it as a "patois" (a mixture of languages) or as an actual language of its own? i am curious to learn more about it.

  • @oxfordpictionary there is a debate. You can see the arguments for it been a language on our site

  • Isnt patois just broken english?no disrespect meant there

  • @midgeman18 I would say ebonics is broken or "nonstandard" English. But patois to me is a mixture taken from British English, Spanish, French and various African dialects

  • this totally made my day ha ha!!!!!

  • @allthatrouble glad we did

  • omg this was so... funny!!! xxxx

  • For God's sake, it's EGG! Not hegg..

  • @xXxLumesUpInFumesxXx just like in Latin it was pater, not 'pere,' for father, but french developed 'pere'... this is how languages are formed.

  • LOL omg !! dats pretty Funny

  • Please! Someone make a dubstep remix of this!!

  • iluv dis

  • RESPEcK!!! :)

  • Do all Jamaicans sound like ignorant, illiterate fools? -__-

  • @WeAreTheKind it's called an accent, now who's ignorant...

  • @omarsucks an accent is different from taking words out of place or completely changing it.

The 1st line obviously says "Sam I am," only an ignorant, illiterate fool would read that and say, "Me is Sam."

  • @WeAreTheKind i think the point is that he is trying to show the syntax and morphology of patois by using a commonly relatable text.

  • @WeAreTheKind How can an accent sound ignorant??? Does that even make sense??? Your just mad that they are long dickin your female relatives...LOL

  • @WeAreTheKind So I guess Queen's English should be the standard for every country, huh? Fuck outta here with that egotistical bull! Everybody has their own tongue, English Nazi. So I guess you basically think every foreigner is ignorant! Maybe if you read a book and find out where Patois came from you wouldn't be so quick to call something ignorant. Ignorant folks who speak on shit they know nothing about need to be taken to deserted island and left there.

  • @hellokittycutie2003 He is trolling.

  • @hellokittycutie2003 exactly. patois is an example of real live language change. language change is the reason we have all the languages in the world. they evolved from earlier forms. where the hell do people think french came from? latin. at one point, latin-speakers were probably angrily correcting people as their speech changed, but eventually people gave up and just started calling it french. people need to give up on criticizing new forms of english... language change will prevail!

  • they got to get this dude to do the twilight and harry potter books on tape....

  • say whaaaaaaaaaaat

  • Why is "one" substituted for "a" part of the time and not others?

  • 6:08 is the best part

  • mi nuh like dem yahso or dehso!

  • just awesome, looking forward to more books

  • "But wait!" LOL LOL

  • I'm an American but I think I found Jamaican Patois pretty understandable. Only difference is that some in some instances, you use different English words in some sentences that wouldn't be commonly used in American English . I think Patois is pretty awesome sounding! :D

  • me no like dem inna ouse?

  • HILARIOUS!!!

  • Whatever happened to the "In A People House" one? That was cute as well! "Inna Smaddy House!"

  • @JamericanPrincess smaddy LOL LOL, that would have been better.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA LOVE IT! <3

  • fox=fucks xD

    hahaha

  • LOL!

  • Please do a "The Places You'll Go"!!!

  • lol yes this is the best thing ive ever seen in my life

  • it wouldn't be sam i am. it'd be sam mi am.

  • @cellphoneBG

Both ways are acceptable. Remember the heavy use of the 1st person pronoun "I" even in the possessive form.

More importantly, it would pronounced as "Green Heggs n Am" . Sam me Am would not eat dem because they are not ital, seen?

But even MORE importantly is that Patois has risen to the heights that people are discussing the grammar as they would any other bona fide language. 'Nuff Respek"

  • me nah eat dem inna no cyar! LOL

hey, man, thanks for lifting up the dignity of patwa/patois.

Miss Lou ah smile pon yuh!

    nuff respeck!

  • OGGGGGG
