  • Legend

  • really, why the fucking hell are the people laughting for? tards i love him +10 for him

  • BRAWOOOO!!!!!

  • HE DID IT

  • eric the eel is BOSS!!!!

  • To all the people who say they cant swim faster etc shut the hell up!! Its not always about breaking world records etc! This guy had to go through so much crap to get to the olympics such as training in crocodile and snake infested waters and not to mention being from one of the poorest countries in the world with next to no resources! Good on him I say!

  • @stevop23 I remember when this happened and when Moussambani was interviewed on TV, he said he trained in a hotel's swimming pool, were he was allowed to do so early in the morning before tourists came. Stop the crap. smh...

  • @Obelix32

Well I heard different on TV. He may have started to train in a hotels pool, but early on in his training (before they knew he was going to the Olympics) he had to train in the river.. Either way an impressive feat, a guy from one of the poorest countries in the world giving it a go! Stop bagging people when you probably cant do better yourself!

  • @stevop23 that's not what I've heard, but whatever, who cares. To say this is an impressive feat... well, we have a very different concept to what is impressive. I find it impressive that a country with no official pools send a swimmer to the Olympics while people in that country is dying because of hunger...

  • @Obelix32

Well thats not his fault is it! Plus a lot of African countries hunger is just as bad or worse and they dominate certain events (think Kenya or Ethiopia in long distance events). Im not sure where the money came from to send him to the games, I have my doubts it came from the government, Im thinking that someone has decided to sponsor him because its a great story. Nonetheless it is going to make very little difference to the overall poverty problem.

  • @harrogateswim Lol I can do 32 seconds for 50 and 1:15 for 100 :)

  • Stupid Americans...

  • his second 50 was about 1:10 and 100 yard freestyle is faster then that. I can't believe he's in the olympics

  • he is a boss

  • He was very competitive while he was standing on the starting block and after that it went pear shaped.

  • 2:58 priceless

  • what the eff is this? I know 3 year old's that swim better.......

  • i can do better i do 1:24 for 100 meters

  • i can do better i do 40 seconds for 50 meters free

  • @harrogateswim that's not that good i can do 34 seconds for 50m and 1min10seconds for 100m...

    and im 13

  • This is what it must feel like to be the only white guy in a 100m.

  • Apparently 4 years later he was doing sub 57 for the same race, champ!

  • @Supero95

    ROFL

  • damn niggers cant swim

  • what about if you dont have a olympic pool at yor country.....the guy never saw a 50 m pool before this competition.....he practiced in a 22 m pool at a hotel of his country.....dont be to hard....but its still funny!!

  • Real Hero

  • He lost.

  • Total respect to this guy! He knows that it's not just about the winning. Its about going out there and giving it a go!

  • Feel sorry for the disqualified swimmers. That's a bit harsh after all that preparation.

I could swim 100m in just over a minute in high school and I never even placed in the competitions :P.

  • I found an article I wrote about this in 2000 in my computer. Brought back memories & I searched YouTube. Loved this commentary and inspired me to write an editorial.... Moral is "Show Up, Do Your Best, Make a Difference". Inspiring!

  • DumPret thx DerRudii (zwitsal)

  • dumpert ofzo

  • Dumpert!

  • dumpert

  • Dumpert!

  • dumpert

  • 3:10 What is it? The Guinea Equatorial record line? :D

  • 感動した!!凄い!!

  • I am 13 and I swim at that pool sometimes for carnivals and I am swim 100 freestyle in 57.98 seconds..... Wish I was at the olympics:(

  • Oh come on people, lighten up a bit, this is bloody funny, it's not taking a piss out of the man it just was comedic brilliance.

  • i swim worse than him... lol

  • you stupid idiots...

  • amaaaaazing moment

  • this *IS* funny - but good on the bloke, what a legend.

  • His record now is under 57 seconds.

  • xD this niggas....

  • WHAT LAUGHING WAS MADE FOR

  • for those who laugh, how many Olympics have you been in?

  • In his interview, he said that Sydney told countries that they would pay for them to be in the Olympics just so they can have the Olympics there. He said that he didn't know how to swim until he got there because he just wanted the opportunity of a lifetime to go to another country FOR FREE! That's why he looked like he wasn't going to make it at the end...because he really was trying to really survive.

  • CHAIR

  • Forget Thorpe, forget Klim, focus on Eric... LOL

  • Equatorial Guinea selected their swimming candidates by throwing people in their largest river and seeing which one drifted up on the bank on the opposite side first.

That's a joke my brother told me at the time, but in all seriousness the man deserves respect. He's probably better at swimming than all of us, and he had a fair go.

  • it's funny but HE HAVE MY RESPECT !!!

  • Hope the Equatorial Guinea women's soccer team does better than this...LOL.

  • the old stereotype rings true, black men cannot swim

  • Apparently he just learned to swim less than a year before this. Impressive as hell if you ask me.

  • Im so lost what the hell happened?

  • @mishjj6 a guy named Eric Moussambani from equatorial guinea came to the 2000 Olympic games and as a show in good faith since their country doesnt have much going for them (in sport) they set up an event where the other 2 swimmers would false start on purpose as to guarantee Eric's win in the event

  • @skeilty101 I believe the whole heat was being represented by swimmers from 'wild card' countries (in other words, countries that wouldn't normally have participants in the Olympics, and this heat was used as an endorsement for the Olympics). I think the false starts were accidental.

  • That finish was nail biting!

  • Thnx

  • All joking aside. The Olympics are meant to be the very best of the best. If a country cannot produce an athlete that makes the qualifying time ... then that country shouldn't be represented in the particular event! This is just like making those entertainment shows out of the various talent show rejects (ie X Factor, Idol etc)!!

  • @gibbopg That's debatable. Are the Olympics about the 'best of the best', or are they about the spirit of competition and excellence in doing your best? Do we admire athletes simply because they perform better than others, or do we admire them for pushing themselves to be the best they can be?

  • Well,at least he did better than the other two by actually not getting disqualified.

  • EPIC WIN

  • For anyone who laughed....

DO YOU HAVE A BIG HEART LIKE HIM?

  • Comment removed

  • as a Christian, i Believe that God will give us rewards which we dont deserve & though our enemy is much stronger that us, God will give us Victory!! this video is reminding me of all those TRUTH's. Thanks for uploading.. Congrats Eric Moussambani !!

  • LOL people don't actually realise that there is Nigerian Swimmer theree aswell :)

  • I'd like to see those old fucks try to swim.

  • 100m, I might get into that

  • Eric's comparable to the great Qwop. He's a real hero (yes, I'm dead serious)!

  • What was that??? Why this two swimmers in black was banned from swim ?

  • @Micki954 disqualified for false start

  • How's Eric doing these days? I remember cheering him on at the 2000 games.

  • Roy and HG at their very best.

  • no pools in Equatorial Guinea.....except the one President-for-Life Obiang keeps his sharks in.

  • Motherfuckers! They have no hearts! Hell is waiting for them.

  • epic.

  • 3:08 epic!

  • Those two guys knew what they missing out on.....

  • héhe_ÃNyOnÉ_wåNÑÁ_chÅt_wÏth_mÉ_Ì_fÊél_só_loNêlý_tôdãý∟

  • fail

  • OMG People are laughing... I'd be crying there...

  • does that mean he made it to the next heat?

  • so...didnt this mean he made another heat? wheres that video?

  • What's with the stupid laughing in the back??

  • @MehrabS i think its a game show

  • @MehrabS They weren't commentating on the race live. "The Dream" was a nightly, satirical television show which ran throughout the 2000 Sydney Olympics, and this clip is cut from one of their nightly shows, hence the audience in the background.

  • hmz warmhearted girl who is searching for a man who would be able to satisfy my needs

  • i swim slowly

  • Go Eric!

  • Brother wishes the pool was shallow so he can run.

  • He is the hero of Guinea. Why are the commentators cunting him off? can thy not see him for what he is? ..a guy giving 100% for his country

  • @6anatolyy4 err I just realised this was a joke :)

  • he had a really good dive though D=

  • hmmmm... SWOP

  • they are very mean to him

  • @3svs Absolutely not.

This was a comedy show played late at night AFTER the Olympics broadcast which lampooned everything Olympic related.

Australians take NOTHING seriously and ALWAYS bet on the underdog. It's deeply ingrained into our character. We were Britain's petty criminals exiled to the far side of the world. How could we claim superiority to anyone?

Aussies loved Eddie the Eel and cheered him louder than our own because he "had a go" and kept fighting despite the odds.

    Just like us.

  • @PresidentZod Well said.

  • это мего смешно)))))

  • is that a joke?! my mom swims faster for christ sake!

  • @Altan0x He learned how to swim only 8 months before the olympics started. He had never seen an olympic swimming pool before in his life.

  • @Altan0x she's also way better in bed

  • Well this is the only way the black man can ever win "by merit" and the results are just as laughably pathetic in the real world of history.

  • what a dude

  • guys who find this funny, just imagine no_one_swimming_pool in your country, then laugh.

we can respect him just for doing what nobody does at his home.

  • @ovsergeev I think your missing the point . I respect the guy and find it funny as well.

Its funny because its an OLYMPIC event, you know the world class showcase of the superhuman?.

    Its Hilarious because its real.

If this sort of stuff doesn't make you laugh, then look for another reality, you`re missing out in this one.

  • @ovsergeev no_one_swimming_pool? Hell, the capital is on a freaking island 600 miles away from the mainland, the rest is on the freaking atlantic coast.

Either the real athletes are at home `cause the politics in that country are fucked up, or this is the best they have, but i doubt that. They have a freacking ocean as a training ground. Are the guineeans afraid of sharks or black people really can`t swim.

  • @ovsergeev its the party pooping fun police

  • I can't help but think they could have made light of this in a less...(how should I say?)...douchy way.

  • LMAO at Yessss 2:06

  • LMAO i can hear ppl laughing in the background

  • Awesome! Go Eric Go Eric!

  • tu i komentatorzy z niego głupa rżnęli

  • standing ovation was great :)

  • Those hahahahaha at the background are so fucking lame!!! I envy Erik for swimming at the olimpics. But those fucking hahahaha

  • 38 people can't swim as good as Eric after 8 months..

  • THey reported that he has improved significantly, with a personal best of under 57 seconds now....

  • I love it when people like him make the olympics.

  • he learned swimming 6 months before the olympics

  • Hi Davidjd here. As a retired Aussie showbiz reporter I know Roy and HG well. In fact, I reported the incident with 'The Eel.' Roy and HG did their commentary in good fun. There was no "racism." I hoped my comment read as "humorous." But,obviously not. Roy and HG reckon I have a sense of humour-that's good enough for me!!

  • i dont wanna sound patronising but...awwww :')

  • I remember watching this back then. This was so funny. What a great ambassador for his country! He ended up being the most famous athlete at the olympics that year. Unfortunately he missed out on the next one because of a visa bungle, but I have heard there was a pool built in his honour in his country and he is now a swimming coach. Good for you Eric!!

  • Roy and H.G should spend the whole C Games in the athletes' village in new Delhi "Belly" - as 'punishment' for this p*ss-take!!

  • @davidjd Where's your sense of humour? Australia absolutely embraced 'The Eel' after this! There's no evil piss-take here - if anything it made Eric more famous. :-P

  • @davidjd

    boo

  • Equatorial Guinea built a swimming pool in honour of Eric's win in this heat. He is now a swimming coach.

  • Comment removed

  • I have much respect for Eric. I can barely swim, so the fact that he competed in an Olympic swimming game having only learnt how to swim 8 months prior is amazing! :D

  • Swim Eric, swim!

  • People who dislike have no heart!

  • That's the place where I watched jaewook too swim with his swimming team for chs state swimminh

  • i've swam in this exact pool many times. and it's big. i struggled with 2 laps too. imagine going off as fast as him. good on him! GO ERIC!!

  • ive got the dream and ice dream on dvd, its the way the olympics are ment to be connentated.

  • These TV commentators are real a$s.holes. How sad that all they can think of watching this is to make fun of Eric Moussambani.

  • @quinterochichi this is from a comedy show that aired during the 2000 olympics called "the dream". there not making fun of eric, there making fun of the fact the olympics as we have it now wont let the real people who arent the elite competitors into it.

  • @quinterochichi - please understand the context before going apeshit with you YouTube posts. Seriously, you'll thank me afterwards.

  • @freakystyley4000 - What's to understand? They're making fun of him. If there is a "context" that would indicate otherwise, it was left out of this clip. Cheers.

  • @quinterochichi you don't get it. they're not making fun of him. in fact they're celebrating him having a red hot go...

  • @xunatz

Not adding on to your raicist joke but, (that wasn't swimming)

  • I don't understand what has gone on here. I thought black people couldn't swim?

  • bummer to the other 2 swimmer..

  • Fist pump irl when he finished. What a legend.

  • gfse orw456w [rywy5

  • he couldve easily switched off and done a leisurely stroll there and back but no, he went for it all heart and scraped the record by the skin of his teeth.

Some athletes play with fake talent (drugs), some athletes play with God given talent, this guy played with 100% heart and that is what makes his achievement so incredible.

  • @Fektthis

  • Its moments like this that are the true spirit of the Olympics, not the rules and regs designed to remove the athlete

  • MEIN ALLER TIEFSTEN RESPEKT AN DIESEM MENSCH....!!! DAS MACHT DEN SPORT AUS UND ICH MEINE DAS ERNST!!! RESPEKT!

  • he claimed he wanted to try at Athens '04, but failed to get a visa. great shame, because he embodied the olympic games. okay, he was breaking the wrong kind of records but hell, he was a guy who didn't care so long as he was taking part and he was an olympiad. he competed at the olympics, despite his lack of experience, and he represented his country and was proud of representing his country. It might be funny for a moment, but it's also extremely noble.

  • hey why was the other two not racing in the end? they cheat or something

  • @kevstawebsta I think they were disqualified for a false start. basically tho like in events like the 100m sprint, developing nations get their own heat (possibly to try and allow smaller nations a chance to race against more promenant athletes), and this was a developing nations heat.

  • " I saw Moussambani training in the pool midweek and gee, he can really put it together. " lol.. HG never saw him train. Don't take it seriously. These guys are comedians. They had a nightly show called " The Dream " during the games. It was an irreverant take on all individuals, teams, and situations of the day. They " called " Eric's race off a recorded tape, in front of their live audience. Viewers AND the Athletes watched it. After the intense days events, they could unwind with a laugh.

  • you dumb as u can't even understand a australian accent u stupid american

  • lo mejor que he visto en mi vida

  • haha

  • LOL

  • Is this real?

  • @rhaimekim yes

  • He broke the record of Guinee!!!=D

  • @piot31 Only in the Olympics, I'm pretty sure!

  • nice

  • #FAG

  • Equatorial Guinea got aid from the world after this. He is the hero of Guinea.

It doesn't matter what the result is. It's an honour that he is taking part in the Olympics.

  • @nospeedlimHN

He probably got a ton of Olympic ass while he was in the village.

  • @nospeedlimHN i agree whith you becuase not everyone gets a change to compeate in the olimpic's

  • In my opinion Mussambani is an example of the meaning of the Olympic spirit. I think that it was difficult for him to swimm in Sidney, but he tried and didn't give up and that's the spirit.

  • i dont undrstand, why moussambani dont moves at 0.38 ? and he swim solo?
